'The Dodger: DJ Carey and the Great Betrayal' by Eimear Ní Bhraonáin will be released in October 2025 and is available to pre-order now
Carlow journalist Eimear Ní Bhraonáin has officially announced the release of her new book about the disgraced former Kilkenny hurler DJ Carey.
The Dodger: DJ Carey and the Great Betrayal has been described as a 'stunning exposé' of the extraordinary rise and fall of DJ Carey.
Carey has pleaded guilty to 10 counts of defrauding a number of people out of money while pretending he had cancer and needed finances to obtain treatment. He is due to be sentenced in October of this year.
As a journalist working on the ground in Kilkenny, Ms Ní Bhraonáin has be covering the DJ Carey story from the very start.
"There was a time when DJ Carey didn't need a surname,' read the description of the book from the publishers, Merrion Press.

'The star player of a Kilkenny hurling team that dominated the sport for a decade, he had a rare, natural talent that led his county to five All Ireland titles and won him nine All Stars. DJ wasn't just a hero on the pitch – his easy charm, generosity, and readiness to meet young fans made him a national treasure.
"Throughout his meteoric rise, strange rumours followed him. In 2003, shocking claims that DJ was dying of cancer swept the country. Who would spread such a story about one of Ireland's most beloved sporting legends? And what could possibly be gained from it?
"Two decades later, the truth emerged. DJ Carey was arrested and charged with deception and forgery – accused of faking cancer to con money from those who trusted him most. For years, he had been telling the same lie to generous supporters who believed they were funding life-saving treatment in the U.S.
"In this riveting exposé, Eimear Ní Bhraonáin uncovers the extraordinary fall from grace of a national icon, and how he betrayed the fans that once loved him.'
The Dodger: DJ Carey and the Great Betrayal is available to pre-order now from your local bookshop with the book due to be officially released in October 2025.

Fleadh hitchhikers score a lift with GAA legend

Two Fleadh-bound pals got more than just a lift when they stuck out their thumbs on a busy roadside – they hitched a ride with none other than seven-time All-Ireland winner and GAA legend, Eoghan O'Gara. Brandon Cassidy and a friend were stranded in Curracloe as taxi demand skyrocketed during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2025. Left with no other option, they decided to hitch a lift into Wexford Town. Maya Jama BANS Love Islander from All Stars saying ‘that's enough'

It comes after Casey recently teased returning to the show AGAIN for Love Island Games MAYA SAYS NO Maya Jama BANS Love Islander from All Stars saying 'that's enough' LOVE Island host Maya Jama has BANNED Casey O'Gorman from doing All Stars again, and said "that's enough". Casey, 28, who is now single after his split from Gabby Allen, 33, has had more villa appearances than any other Islander. 4 Maya Jama has banned Casey O'Gorman from doing All Stars again Credit: Rex 4 The Islander has already been on the show THREE times Credit: Rex 4 Casey won the latest series of All Stars with Gabby Allen but they have since split Credit: Rex 4 Maya has put her foot down on Casey returning to the villa again Credit: TikTok The Islander was originally on winter Love Island in 2023. He then returned to the villa for Love Island All Stars the following year, before going back AGAIN on the show in January. Casey went onto win the show with Gabby, but they split not long after scooping the £50K prize pot. Now he has teased another return the villa, but host Maya is having none of it. The Sun exclusively revealed how All Stars will be back for a third series next year. After we broke this news, Casey then took to TikTok and posted a video of himself dancing around in his speedos. He wrote over the top of the clip: "When they announce their is going to be an All Stars season three." However, Maya immediately put a stop to any plans Casey might have at applying to be in the villa again, and wrote beneath the clip: "Lol my guy it's enough!" It comes just weeks after Casey spoke exclusively to The Sun about the possibility of doing another Love Island spin-off show. It came after we revealed he was in talks for the show's Games spin-off. Casey O'Gorman hits back at ex Gabby Allen's 'boy' swipe in new video Speaking about this, he told us: "I don't think I'd go back on for £10,000, no. "Look, money talks right? So if I'm getting paid £1,000,000 to go back on, I think you'd be stupid not to. That's not really been a thought of mine to be honest with you." Talking about his most recent stint on All Stars, Casey said: "The third time going in, they were like, 'look, Case, we feel like you've got so much more to give on Love Island and we want you to go in from the start. "And I went, if you put me in from the start, I'll do it. I'll 100 percent do it because I feel like it's a completely different experience going in pretty much from day one. "So that's why I did it again because I felt like I was given a lot better chance going in from the start and it obviously paid off." He's also in no rush to start dating again after his split from Gabby in May. "I couldn't be more single. I'm just focusing on the marathon. I'm not focusing on dating or anything like that. I'm very happy," he said.

Scarlett Moffatt breaks silence on ITV show and what she'll do differently after signing up for I'm A Celeb All Stars

JUNGLE Queen Scarlett Moffatt has broken her silence on the ITV show, and what she'll do differently, after signing up for I'm A Celeb All Stars. In June, insiders told The Sun the Gogglebox star is in advanced talks to join the All Stars version of the show, which starts filming in South Africa later this year. 5 Jungle Queen Scarlett Moffatt has broken her silence on the ITV show, and what she'll do differently Credit: Rex 5 Scarlett Moffatt won I'm A Celeb in 2016, beating fellow finalists Joel Dommett and Adam Thomas Credit: Rex Features 5 Scarlett has paved a very successful career, as well as getting engaged to partner Scott Dobinson and welcoming son Jude Credit: scarlettmoffatt/Instagram.. The series, hosted by Ant and Dec, will air next year - which coincides with the ten-year anniversary of Scarlett, 34, winning the show. And the Gogglebox icon broke her silence on the stint, as she spoke to The Sun in a campaign for M&Ms. Scarlett admitted: 'I mean, it would be amazing to do [All Stars] because it's iconic and I just love the show so much. I was on it a whole decade ago, so I would've been in my early 20s and I'm a different human now. 'So I would do the trials differently. But I'd just go in and be myself, and that's the only thing you can do.' She continued: 'I'm not sure about smashing the trials, but I'd give them my best shot. But as I've gotten older my fear levels have gone up. I can't even get on rollercoasters now.' Since starring on the show, Scarlett has paved a very successful career, as well as getting engaged to partner Scott Dobinson and welcoming son Jude. This summer, a source told us: 'Scarlett won I'm A Celeb in 2016 and was hugely popular with viewers so everyone's really excited she might be returning for the new all stars series. 'She is so game for a laugh and knows what to expect in terms of the Bushtucker Trials so she'll throw herself into every task. 'Scarlett is a mum now too and she wants to do the show to show her little boy just how brave she can be. Former Queen of the Jungle Scarlett Moffatt says she knows who is going to win the special South Africa series 'The series is shaping up to be one of the most exciting TV shows of next year and some of the stars they're speaking to are proper camp legends. 'This is an amazing opportunity for her and let's face it, who wouldn't fancy a trip to South Africa? Even if she does have to chomp down on some kangaroo testicles?' The first series of the I'm A Celeb All Stars spin off aired back in 2023, with Carol Vorderman and Helen Flanagan losing out to Myleene Klass who was crowned the winner. The spin off proved to be massively popular, especially with 16-34s, and saw an average of 5.2million viewers across its weeknight run. On the topic of TV, Scarlett was chatting to The Sun about all things telly while enjoying some M&Ms, to launch Couch Confessions, a playful new pop-up experience coming to Battersea on 5th August, built around Britain's funniest (and most relatable) TV-watching habits. She cheekily admitted to Googling the ending of anything she's about to watch, clearly not fussed by spoilers. Scarlett told us: 'Do you know what - and this is Scott's pet peeve - I Google the ending of everything. 'Like psychological thrillers and all that, I'll Google it to see who it is. But I'll also do it with rom-coms, in case I need to mentally prepare for a dramatic scene. I don't tell him I've done it, but I'll tell him I've Googled it.' Scarlett also discussed watching police dramas with her policeman fiance Scott. 'I do not watch any police programmes with Scott because he goes into work mode and I'm like, no watching telly is about switching off,' Scarlett shared, adding: 'He'll say things like 'well if I was doing it…' and I'm like 'no, no, it's not you.''
