Kashi women craft 4.76L national flags for I-Day
1 2 Varanasi: As the nation gears up to celebrate Independence Day on Aug 15, Kashi, known for its spiritual heritage, has intensified preparations for celebration of the day on a grand scale. In a significant drive under the Uttar Pradesh govt's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, more than 2,600 women from self-help groups (SHGs) are making over 4.76 lakh national flags to be delivered to houses ahead of Aug 15. Ranchi: As the 79th Independence Day is just around the corner, patriotic fervour gripped the streets, markets, and public spaces of Ranchi. Every corner of the city has been draped in vibrant shades of saffron, white, and green, while patriotic songs reverberate on roads. In the run-up to the celebrations on Friday, a group of youngsters, preparing to join the armed forces, took to the streets on Wednesday carrying a massive 300-ft-long tricolour, chanting the country's name at the pitch of their voices. The procession, which started at the Morabadi ground to the Albert Ekka Chowk, passed through prominent roads of the city, attracted attention and sparked spontaneous participation from passers-by chanting 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. Many paused to take photographs and videos of the grand march. "We are training to join the armed forces and serve the nation for as long as we live. This tricolour rally is our way of expressing our respect and love for the country. We hope this march will inspire more youth to prepare for joining the armed forces and nurture a sense of pride for the country," said a young participant in the march. Elephant corridor planned in Hassan dist to mitigate human-wildlife conflict
Hassan: The forest department in Hassan district is set to create an elephant corridor at a cost of Rs 53 crore to mitigate the human-elephant conflict. A proposal in this regard will be submitted to the Union govt. The work will commence upon getting approval, said minister of forest, ecology, and environment Eshwar Khandre. Wild elephant menace is rampant in the district. Apart from attacking humans, the elephants also damage properties. Nearly 100 elephants have been roaming near the human habitats and forest border areas in the district. The minister appreciated forest officials for their dedication and highlighted the importance of raising awareness on human-wildlife conflict through social media. Last year, seven people lost their lives in elephant attacks, and this year, four people died. Karnataka leads the country with 6,500 elephants and ranks second with 565 tigers. He stressed that wildlife conservation is everyone's responsibility and emphasised the necessity of coexistence.
