Green job demand in India sees 20–30% annual growth; Tier II/III cities to host up to 40% roles

Time of India2 days ago

New Delhi: India's green economy is expected to generate 7.29 million jobs by FY28 and about 35 million jobs by 2047, according to industry estimates. The projections come as the country moves toward a green economy valued at USD 1 trillion by 2030 and USD 15 trillion by 2070.
The latest employment outlook for the green sector exceeds earlier projections made in 2024, which had estimated a 15–20 per cent year-on-year increase in demand for green jobs over the next 10 years. Companies are modifying their workforce strategies by prioritising skill-based hiring and practical green competencies over traditional qualifications. They are also forming partnerships with academic institutions to equip the youth with sustainability-related skills and investing in inclusive hiring and re-skilling initiatives.
Major job creation is expected in renewable energy, waste management, electric vehicles, sustainable textiles, and green construction sectors. The growth is expected across urban and peri-urban regions. While cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi continue to attract aspirants for green jobs, Tier II and III cities including Jaipur, Indore, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Bhubaneswar, and Chandigarh are emerging as important centres. These cities are projected to account for 35–40 per cent of the 7.29 million jobs by FY28.
Job roles in the green sector are expanding beyond traditional segments. Demand for roles such as ESG analysts, green tech experts, and climate data analysts has increased compared to last year and is projected to grow by 20–30 per cent annually. Hybrid roles that combine sustainability expertise with digital proficiency are expected to see a 4–6 times rise in demand. ESG analyst roles are projected to grow by 13–20 times.
Green technology is also being influenced by innovations in precision farming, smart irrigation, and AI-based climate modelling. New roles are being created in sustainable agriculture and clean technology through blockchain traceability systems. Professionals with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), remote monitoring systems, and lifecycle assessment tools are in demand.
The average salary across profiles in the green sector has increased by 20.3 per cent over the past one to two years. Salaries in Tier I cities can be up to 50 per cent higher than in Tier II cities, driven by the cost of living differences.
Currently, women account for 11–12 per cent of green jobs in India. This is attributed to unequal access to technical education, workplace safety concerns, and cultural barriers. Organisations are adopting inclusive hiring practices and supporting women-focused skill development programmes. These initiatives are expected to improve gender parity by 12–15 per cent over the next 5–6 years.
Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services, said, 'In the past 4–5 years, we've seen green jobs evolve from niche roles to mainstream opportunities across renewable energy, EVs, and sustainable infrastructure. What's changed pragmatically is the skillsets. Today's green workforce needs both sustainability know-how and digital fluency, and the increased integration of AI, IoT, blockchain, GIS, and data-driven tools are laying the foundation for progressive, new-age green careers.'>

Why is Eminem Suing Meta for USD 109 Million? Inside Rapper's Fight Over 243 Songs

Eminem's publishing company, Eight Mile Style, has filed a lawsuit against Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The lawsuit, filed on May 30 and obtained by E! News on June 3, accuses Meta of copyright infringement. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, claims that Meta allowed the unauthorized use of 243 of his songs across its platforms. According to the court documents, Meta's features, such as Original Audio and Reels, make it easy for users to take clips of Eminem's music without permission. The lawsuit states that these tools allow and encourage users to steal his tracks for use in videos without proper attribution or license. As a result, Eight Mile Style is seeking more than USD 109 million in damages. Why is Eminem suing Meta platforms? Eminem alleges that Meta violated his copyright by storing, reproducing and exploiting his songs without authorization. The filing demands damages for the diminished value of the copyrights, lost profits and any profits Meta earned from the infringement. Alternatively, he asked for the maximum statutory damages of USD 150,000 per song across all Meta platforms, which adds up to USD 109,350,000. The lawsuit explains that users can easily search for Eminem's tracks on Facebook and Instagram, and then apply them to their Reels or Stories. Without proper licensing or credit, these uses harm the value of the original recordings. In the filing, Eminem's team lists each of the 243 songs in his catalog, which includes hits like Love the Way You Lie. Eminem has often shared how important music is to his mental health. 'One of the great things about rap music is that you could put so much of your life in it,' he said during an interview on Shade 45's Sway In The Morning in June 2022. 'It's therapeutic and that's how it's always been for me.' His lyrics frequently touch on his difficult childhood and personal struggles. The lawsuit also comes as Eminem continues to protect his artistic legacy. The Detroit rapper has a long history of taking legal action to defend his music rights. His decision to sue Meta echoes past battles over copyrights and royalties.

Share price of Sika Interplant Systems today: Shares of Sika Interplant Systems (SIKA) zoomed 20 per cent to hit a new high of ₹1,125.3 on the BSE in Wednesday's intra-day trade amid heavy volumes. In the past two trading days, the stock price of the microcap company engaged in aerospace and defence business has surged 36 per cent. At 12:27 PM, SIKA was quoting 18 per cent higher at ₹1,109.30, as compared to a 0.24 per cent rise in the BSE Sensex. The average trading volumes on the counter jumped over fivefold, with 375,000 shares changing hands on the BSE, the exchange data shows. The company's market capitalisation stood at ₹2,345 crore. License agreement with Collins SIKA on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, informed that the company has entered into a License Agreement with Goodrich Actuation Systems SAS (France) and Goodrich Actuation Systems Limited (UK), each a part of Collins Aerospace (Collins). Under this agreement, SIKA will be licensed to undertake maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of specific primary flight control actuation part numbers (components) for which Collins is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). These Components are standard installations on all Airbus A320/A321 series aircraft. The company said as per the License Agreement, SIKA is authorised to service Components from aircraft registered in India and select neighbouring countries as defined in the agreement. This collaboration aligns with SIKA's strategic objective of expanding its MRO capabilities to better serve aviation and aerospace customers in India and the region, the company said. Industry structure and development India's geopolitical scenario and compulsions, real or perceived, are continuing to drive the development of its A&D industry. The stand-offs seen in recent years on the Indo-China border have renewed the urgency to build capability and capacity for India's defence industry. The geopolitical situation in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region, as well as the wider theatre of Southeast Asia and the South China Sea, has important implications for the defence sector, SIKA said in its FY24 annual report. The last decade has seen India emerge as one of the most attractive A&D markets in the world, given the Ministry of Defence's (MoD) continued emphasis on modernisation of the armed forces, which is expected to result in capital expenditure of about USD 250 billion over the next 10 years. There is a broad acknowledgement that while the man behind the machine remains motivated, some machines being manned need an upgrade. Opportunities The country's Defence expenditure has been punctuated by big-ticket deals and modernisation programs, the latter in response to the urgent need to enhance the deterrent and operational capabilities of the armed forces through upgradation/modernisation of existing equipment, as well as additional acquisitions of 'state of the art' equipment. The large scale of the market provides a significant opportunity for foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Indian industries and SMEs. The need for a self-reliant Defence sector and a sharp focus on minimising dependence on imports is seeing the continued opening up of the sector for private participation, SIKA said in its annual report. About Sika Interplant Systems Limited (SIKA) SIKA is actively involved in four main areas, namely, engineering (design and development); manufacturing, assembly and testing; projects and systems integration; and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). Additionally, the Company's in-house capabilities in technology development and production are complemented by tie-ups with international partners. The majority of the Company's business is catered to serving the Aerospace, Defence & Space (AD&S) and Automotive sectors. In recent years, SIKA has been focused on building advanced facilities to expand its operational base to keep pace with the fast-paced development of the AD&S sector in India, and SIKA is well-positioned to meet the requirements of both potential international partners and domestic projects. Within the automotive sector, the company continues to undertake projects to supply critical capital equipment to a significant number of the major automobile manufacturers across the country.

The Trunk's Seo Hyun Jin moves to 1.5 billion KRW apartment amid housing scam, here's how she plans to recover loss

Actress Seo Hyun Jin has found herself entangled in a real estate dispute after falling victim to jeonse fraud. It is a type of housing scam that continues to trap unsuspecting tenants across South Korea. According to court documents disclosed on June 3, Seo Hyun Jin is currently seeking to recover a massive 2.6 billion KRW (approximately 1.9 million USD) deposit tied to a jeonse contract for a high-end villa located in Cheongdam-dong. During this ongoing case, she vacated her former residence and is now said to be staying at a different property she owns. A new home Amid the ongoing legal battle, Seo Hyun Jin has managed to secure a new place to live. She reportedly relocated to an apartment in Oksu-dong, a neighborhood in central Seoul. This property, purchased under her name in 2018, was acquired for 1.5 billion KRW (approximately 1.07 million USD) - paid fully in cash. A deal gone wrong It all started when Seo Hyun Jin entered into the jeonse agreement in April 2020. She put forward a staggering 2.5 billion KRW (around 1.8 million USD) as a lump-sum deposit in exchange for rent-free living for the lease term. It's a common arrangement under South Korea's unique housing system. She renewed the contract in 2022, increasing the deposit by an additional 125 million KRW (about 89,000 USD). This brought her total investment in the property to 2.625 billion KRW. However, when the lease expired in April 2024, the villa's owner failed to return the deposit. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, Seo was unable to recover the funds. It prompted her to take legal steps. In September 2024, she formally registered her lease rights through the court and moved out of the property. Auction offers slim hope of recovery With negotiations stalled, Seo pursued legal recourse by initiating a forced auction of the Cheongdam-dong villa. While the property was officially appraised at 2.874 billion KRW (approximately 2.05 million USD), the first auction round failed to attract a buyer. As a result, the court lowered the minimum bid to 2.299 billion KRW (roughly 1.64 million USD) in preparation for a second auction scheduled for June 17. For Seo, the financial stakes remain high. In order to recoup her full deposit, the winning bid must exceed 2.6 billion KRW. It's a target that may be difficult to reach in today's cooling real estate market. If the final sale price falls short, Seo could suffer a major financial loss.
