Saturday's Nor'easter: Local flood risk, rain totals

Yahoo30-05-2025
Excessive Rainfall Outlook: It's a marginal risk for flash flooding in southern and eastern Vermont along with New Hampshire. While a couple main stem rivers could reach action stage, they will likely remain below minor flood stage. It's the smaller creeks/streams that could overflow their banks resulting in minor flooding. Drive safely, and remain extra vigilant if you have to be out and about.
Rainfall Totals: The lesser totals will reside closer to the St. Lawrence River Valley. That's where up to 0.5 inch of rain is expected. Tallies quickly tick up from eastern New York to Vermont and New Hampshire. It's 1 to 2 inches for eastern New York and the Twin States with pockets of localized 2 to 3+ inch amounts; heaviest totals are likely in southern Vermont, the Upper Valley, and the Northeast Kingdom.
Soggy Weekend Timeline: Our Nor'easter rolls in just after sunrise Saturday. That steady, heavy rain will arrive from south to north and will immediately start soaking the landscape with light to moderate rain along with embedded, heavier downpours.
That wet weather action will carry over into the afternoon and evening before tapering to scattered showers overnight into Sunday. Saturday will be a near wash of a day. Not to mention, it will be cold and breezy so best to just hunker down at home where it's cozy and safe.

Gradual clearing Thursday after a damp, cool midweek

Happy Hump Day! It's a mild, cloud, and damp start to the day with isolated showers and localized downpours continuing to work in from west to east. Make sure to have the umbrella on standby for the morning drive, if not the cozy rain jacket. Temperatures are in the 50s/60s this morning with brisk south breezes. Take it easy on those wet roadways, especially from central Vermont to the Upper Valley. Highs will only climb through the 60s and close to 70 this afternoon with continued cloudy skies and wet weather. A few more showers are likely by the evening drive home before we start the process of very slowly clearing up the forecast overnight into Thursday. Lows will fall into the 50s overnight through Thursday morning with patchy dense fog and leftover sprinkles likely. Partly cloudy to partly sunny skies will continue to work in across the Northeast Kingdom, Champlain Valley, and northern New York throughout Thursday afternoon. Highs will achieve the upper 70s to near 80. Meanwhile, it's cloudier with exiting sprinkles from southern Vermont to the Upper Valley. The leftover damp, cloudy forecast will mean highs in the 60s to low 70s. Overall, rainfall totals will average a tenth to a quarter inch or so. Lesser totals will be reserved for the North Country with the highest totals set for southern Vermont and the Upper Valley. Overnight, it's starry skies and patchy fog that returns with lows in the 40s/50s. Friday, high pressure moves in from the Great Lakes which will mean a mostly sunny day with just a few fair weather clouds. Highs will make a seasonable run into the upper 70s to low 80s with north winds and comfortable humidity. The best part about Friday's high pressure is that it will continue to bump power Hurricane Erin out to sea and away from the east, but only after some very high surf/beach erosion/coastal flooding/life-threatening rip currents for the entire east coast. Shifted grounds, heavy rain prompt emergency repairs on I-69

HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A traffic alert for drivers in Hopkins County as crews make emergency repairs to part of I-69. It comes after part of the road was washed out during last week's heavy rain. This happened in the northbound lanes just south of the Earlington exit. Kentucky Transportation officials say the ground shifted under the pavement, which created large cracks in a recently repaired section of the interstate. There is no timeline for those repairs to be complete. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. Rain dissapears and heat lingers, but big heat relief showing up in a week

Another day of feast or famine, with some lucky locations receiving rainfall. With the good comes some bad, though, with stronger storms producing strong winds and frequent lightning. The rainfall was welcome, though, especially as we enter another long dry stretch. Today's round of showers and thunderstorms will continue into this evening before fading by midnight. A pocket of dry, stable air over Southwest Missouri will tend to keep rain out of much of Southwest Missouri. In the wake of tonight's cool front, we'll find an easing of the heat with afternoon highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. The overnights are where you may notice a real increase in comfort with low humidity air, opening the door to lows in the low to mid 60s. Another dry stretch gets started as well, with no rain expected through Friday. Download our KOLR 10 weather app They're may be a little bump in rain chances Saturday, though, mainly closer to Central Missouri as the next cool front arrives. The weekend cool front will deliver real heat relief with the coolest weather since at least the beginning of the month. We can look forward to a long stretch of highs below 90° and maybe even a day in there with highs below 80°. Cool overnight temperatures are also on the table, with some mornings dipping below 60°. Stingy rain chances will come with the front Saturday, but it may lay the foundation for better rain chances next week as it stalls to the south. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
