An Indian man in his 40s was violently attacked in Tallaght, Dublin, sustaining serious injuries.
An Indian man in his 40s was violently attacked and partially stripped in a suspected racist assault in Tallaght, a suburb of Dublin following which the police launched an investigation into the incident. The man, who arrived in Ireland just three weeks ago, was reportedly beaten by a group of individuals on Parkhill Road. He sustained serious injuries to his face, arms and legs and was taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment.
The police said that they were alerted to the assault and have since opened a criminal investigation although no arrests have been made yet. According to The Irish Times, the man was allegedly falsely accused by his attackers of acting inappropriately around children. The police, however, said that there is no evidence supporting these claims.
Ambassador, Lawmakers Condemn Attack
India's Ambassador to Ireland Akhilesh Mishra condemned the incident on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), questioning the severity of the injuries in what had initially been described as an 'alleged" assault.
'How can an 'ALLEGED' assault cause such horrible injury & bleeding?" he wrote, thanking the Irish police for their support to the victim and urging that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Local Fine Gael councillor for Tallaght South Baby Pereppadan met the victim in hospital and said he was too traumatised to speak, adding, 'He only arrived in Ireland three weeks ago. He is not taking any visitors at the moment." Such attacks are becoming more frequent in Tallaght, he said, noting, 'People need to understand that many Indian people moving to Ireland are here on work permits, to study and work in the healthcare sector or in IT and so on, providing critical skill."
Paul Murphy, a People Before Profit TD for the area, criticised the assault, warning that misinformation and xenophobia were contributing factors. He said, 'Responsibility lies not just with those who perpetrated the violence but also with those who have been spreading racist lies. The community is really shocked and outraged and will stand together against violence, hate and division."
Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan highlighted the dangers of racial profiling and false accusations against immigrants, saying, 'Increasingly, you hear of people blaming immigrants for crimes. All I can say to you is: I have asked for the statistics and when you look at the prison population of people convicted of offences, the percentage of immigrants in prison is lower than the percentage of immigrants in society. So there's no substance to the suggestion that immigrants are more likely to commit a criminal offence."

Tanushree Dutta Alleges Threat To Her Life Like Sushant Singh Rajput: 'Maids Planted To Spy'

Last Updated: Tanushree Dutta claims her life is in danger like Sushant Singh Rajput's, alleges Bollywood mafia harassment. Tanushree Dutta has once again sparked concern online after an emotional video of her surfaced on social media. In the clip, the actress is seen breaking down in tears as she alleges that she is being 'harassed". The video, which quickly went viral, left many fans shocked and concerned for her well-being. And now, speaking to News18 exclusively, she made a series of serious allegations, claiming she is being harassed and is in danger. Drawing parallels with the late Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in his Mumbai home in 2020, the actress alleged that there is a powerful force within Bollywood working against her. 'Like Sushant Singh Rajput, there is an attempt to kill me too," she said, referring to the actor's untimely death in 2020, which led to intense public outcry and theories linking it to the so-called 'Bollywood mafia'. In a new video message, Tanushree directly appealed to the authorities: 'I request the government to provide me with security." She said she believes there is a powerful nexus within the industry working against her. 'The Bollywood mafia gang is huge, and like Sushant, my life is also in danger." Tanushree, who was one of the first prominent names to speak up during India's MeToo movement in 2018, connected her current ordeal to that moment. 'Since I raised my voice against Nana Patekar for the incident that happened with me during the MeToo movement, suspicious activities have started around me." According to her, the harassment hasn't stopped. 'I am being followed constantly. I am being harassed." She also alleged that her home was not safe either. 'There was spying done in my house, and a house help was planted for that purpose. I will file a complaint at the police station tomorrow regarding these incidents." Tanushree also made it clear that this should be treated as a fresh case, not linked to her previous complaints. 'I hope and request the police to not judge this case by my previous ones, and look at it with a new perspective so I can get justice. I do not want to reopen my previous case." Late Tuesday night, Tanushree shared the video on her official Instagram account, claiming that the harassment was coming from her own family. In the visibly emotional footage, she appeared distressed and spoke about possibly taking legal steps against her relatives. China Bars Two US Citizens From Leaving: What Are Exit Bans And How Do They Work?

Last Updated: China imposed exit bans on two Americans, a Wells Fargo executive and a US government employee. What are exit bans and how do they work? China imposed exit bans on two American citizens- a Wells Fargo executive and an employee of the US government- just weeks ahead of a key trade deadline between the two countries. China's Foreign Ministry confirmed that it had placed an exit ban on Mao Chenyue, a banker working for Wells Fargo, saying she was 'involved in a criminal case" and was required to cooperate with the investigation. Separately, the US State Department said that China blocked a Commerce Department employee- specifically from the United States Patent and Trademark Office- from leaving the country. The US Embassy in Beijing said that it had raised concerns about the use of 'arbitrary exit bans" with Chinese authorities, saying such actions damage bilateral relations. What Are Exit Bans Used For? Exit bans are legal tools that prevent individuals- both Chinese citizens and foreigners- from leaving the country. In many cases, authorities justify their use to keep suspects or witnesses in place during investigations, particularly if they are deemed a flight risk. China's exit bans are sometimes imposed for political reasons or as leverage in civil disputes, diplomatic stand-offs or even to pressure foreign governments, experts have warned. James Zimmerman, a Beijing-based lawyer and former chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, said, 'Most of the time, there is a legitimate legal basis for the exit bans. But there are indeed instances of misuse of the process by the government authorities, including for political reasons." Who Can Be Subject To Exit Bans? While suspects and witnesses in criminal cases are often the most obvious targets, China has extended exit bans to individuals who are not directly involved in legal proceedings. Foreigners with ties to investigations involving state-owned enterprises (SOEs) may also be barred from leaving. There are also high-profile examples of exit bans being used coercively. In 2018, two American citizens- Victor and Cynthia Liu- were prevented from leaving China for three years in what US officials described as an effort to pressure their father, a Chinese fugitive wanted for financial crimes, to return. How Has China Expanded Its Use Of Exit Bans? In recent years, China has passed or amended several laws that give authorities broader powers to impose exit bans, especially under the banner of national security. A major change came in 2023, when the country revised its counterespionage law to allow exit bans for anyone under investigation who might pose a national security risk after leaving the country- even if no charges have been filed. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
