The driver of the BMW, Nhlanhla Madi sat motionless and watched as emergency personnel tended to the third victim, a woman who was a passenger in the Ford Fiesta.
An eyewitness who drove behind the BMW said the driver of the Ford Fiesta allegedly tried to overtake a bakkie and lost control.
'The Ford Fiesta nipped the back of a trailer, and when he tried to swerve back, he lost control and smashed the BMW head-on.'
The eyewitness did not want his name mentioned.

SAPS eThekwini district records thousands of arrests, firearm recoveries
MEN and women in blue in the eThekwini District made an impact in their crime-fighting efforts during July through increased visibility and reinforced public safety. Spokesperson for the eThekwini District, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said, 'Sixty suspects were arrested for murder, 74 suspects arrested for attempted murder and 106 nabbed for robberies such as robbery with aggravating circumstances, carjacking, cash in transit robbery, house and business robberies.' Also read: 4 tips to save yourself when being attacked She added, 'Detectives were also hard at work and a total of 46 suspects were arrested for rape, eight suspects arrested for sexual assault, and 568 suspects were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault common. On property-related crimes, 70 suspects were nabbed for cases such as burglaries at residential and business premises, stock theft as well as theft of and theft out of motor vehicles. 'The police members in our district also recovered 154 vehicles, 35 vehicles used in a commission of crime, 78 dangerous weapons, 146 illegal firearms and 1604 various rounds of ammunition. A large quantity of liquor, non-ferrous metal and drugs was also seized during the operations held in the district.' As we are into August month, operations within eThekwini District will be ongoing, with the same focused commitment to eradicate crime and arrest dangerous criminals or those who do not adhere to law and order.' During Women's Month, Rhynes said that joint law enforcement 'Basadi operations' will also be ongoing throughout eThekwini District, focusing on hotspots and bringing more visibility in the prevention of crime by their women in law enforcement. Another 8 undocumented immigrants meet their match in eMalahleni
Police officers deployed under Operation Vala Umgodi have arrested eight illegal immigrants during a stop-and-search operation along the N4 Road near a local mall on Thursday. Arrested on August 14, the suspects, aged between 22 and 34, allegedly failed to produce valid documentation allowing them to be in South Africa and were charged with Contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa. The arrests form part of a broader crackdown on illegal mining and related crimes across Mpumalanga. Operation Vala Umgodi, a multi-agency initiative led by the South African Police Service, has been actively targeting hotspots used by criminal syndicates and undocumented individuals. According to the Mpumalanga provincial Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the operation has already led to hundreds of arrests nationwide. The eight arrested are expected to appear before the Witbank Magistrate's Court today, August 18. 'Another 11 undocumented immigrants were arrested on August 7, and they appeared before the Witbank Magistrate's Court on August 11,' said Witbank Police Spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall. The suspects remained in custody, and they will appear again on different dates from September 8, 9 10, 15, 16, and 27. Farm robbery suspect arrested after high-speed chase in Delmas

Image: Kindel Media / Pexels A dramatic multi-disciplinary police operation in the Nkangala District has led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of stolen property following a house robbery at a farm near the Kusile Power Station in Delmas. The incident took place last week, when five armed men allegedly stormed the property and made off with vehicles, livestock, and household goods. The vehicles were spotted along the R42 between Bronkhorstspruit and Delmas, sparking a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the suspects abandoned the BMW, while a Mazda Etude attempted to block officers but later crashed. The chase continued into eTwatwa, Daveyton, where the suspects eventually abandoned the Ford Ranger and fled on foot. The suspect has been charged with house robbery and contravention of the Immigration Act. He is expected to appear before the Delmas Magistrate's Court on Monday, with police indicating that more charges may follow as investigations continue. Mpumalanga Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, praised the coordinated efforts of all police units involved, as well as the support of the tracking company.
