Liverpool vs Athletic: Storm Floris Set to Impact Anfield Friendlies

Liverpool vs Athletic: Weather Warning Issued Ahead of Anfield Friendlies Storm Floris expected to disrupt Liverpool's pre-season showcase Supporters planning to attend Liverpool's pre-season double-header against La Liga side Athletic Club on Monday have been urged to prepare for adverse conditions as Storm Floris barrels towards the UK. The Reds, freshly returned from their pre-season tour of the Far East, are set to host two friendlies at Anfield—matches which could be played under the shadow of high winds and torrential rain. Schedule confirmed for Anfield double-header The first fixture of the evening will kick off at 5pm on Monday, 4 August, followed by a second encounter at 8pm. Both matches are expected to be played in front of a sell-out crowd, though fans making the trip to Merseyside may need to brace themselves—quite literally—for testing weather. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind, in effect from 6am Monday through to 6am Tuesday, as Storm Floris sweeps across the region. Gusts between 40-50mph are forecast for inland areas, with exposed coasts and elevated regions—particularly in Scotland—facing even more powerful winds. Matthew Lehnert, Met Office Chief Meteorologist, warned: 'Across the warning area, many inland areas are likely to see gusts of 40-50mph, with 60-70mph more likely at higher elevations and around exposed coasts in Scotland. There is a small chance that some locations here could even record gusts of 85mph.' Heavy rain is also expected to accompany the wind, further complicating travel to and from Anfield. Fans are advised to check for updates and prepare for potential disruptions as they make their way to support Liverpool in this key phase of their pre-season. First Anfield appearance for summer signings Beyond the weather, there is anticipation among Liverpool supporters to see some of the club's new signings in action for the first time at Anfield. Among the seven new arrivals this summer are Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, both of whom are expected to feature. These matches mark the final tune-up on home soil before Arne Slot's men head to Wembley on 10 August to face Crystal Palace in the Community Shield. That clash will offer a first glimpse of how Liverpool's refreshed squad measures up in a competitive setting. Their Premier League campaign then begins at Anfield against Bournemouth on Friday, 17 August.

Go Ahead Eagles star flies the nest for Rangers for club record fee

Oliver Antman has left Go Ahead Eagles for Glasgow Rangers. This was announced by both clubs on Monday. According to the Deventer-based side, the star winger leaves for the Scottish giants for a record fee. The 23-year-old Finnish international Antman signs a five-year contract at Ibrox and is Rangers' ninth acquisition of the season. 'It's fantastic to be here. It's been a hectic few days, but I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates,' he said on the club's website. 'I was immediately intrigued by Rangers' interest. It's a very big club, and you don't get opportunities like this very often in life,' Antman added. Manager Russell Martin is thrilled with Antman's arrival in Glasgow. 'We've been tracking him for a while, and his versatility in attack really adds to the attacking line. He's a hungry player, and I hope he can be a valuable asset to us this season.' Antman was crucial for the Dutch Cup winners last season. In 36 official matches, the Finn scored six goals and provided a league-topping 16 assists. So far, Go Ahead have only seen Enric Llansana leave for Anderlecht. The squad has been strengthened with the addition of RKC Waalwijk star Richonell Margaret. Go Ahead's director, Jan Willem van Dop, previously stated that catalysts Antman and Jakob Breum would not be allowed to leave Deventer for less than six million euros. While the transfer fee is still unclear, journalist Chris Jack claims it amounts to almost 3.5 million euros. De Telegraaf, however, have already assured that the sum, including bonuses, could reach 6 million euros. GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield

🚨 Celtic and Rangers learn Champions League fate

Celtic and Rangers' paths to the Champions League league phase have been determined at a draw in in Nyon on Monday. As reigning league winners, Celtic were placed in the champions path of the draw and will face just one play-off round. There, they will face either Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan or Slovan Bratislava, who they defeated 5-1 in the league phase last season. Should Rangers overcome Viktoria Plzen, they will take on either Salzburg or Club Brugge in the league path for a place in the revamped competition. Both teams will play the first legs at home. 📸 FABRICE COFFRINI
