SREENIVASA REDDY (ABU DHABI)Demand for office space in Abu Dhabi soared in the first half of 2025, with requirements exceeding 5 million square feet, marking a 110% increase compared to the same period last year, according to Knight Frank's Abu Dhabi Office Market Review. Business services remained the largest driver of demand, accounting for 32% of requirements, followed by government entities at 9%.Faisal Durrani, Partner – Head of Research, MENA, said new rental contracts had been a key driver of market activity in 2025, with transaction volumes peaking in January, signalling fresh demand and corporate expansion in the UAE capital. Occupancy levels across the city's Grade A stock remain at record highs, with limited availability sustaining and, in many cases, driving up rents for best-in-class space.The leasing market, however, showed a mixed performance across submarkets in the second quarter. Musaffah led quarter-on-quarter rental growth with a 73% increase, followed by Al Bateen at 68% and Al Hisn at 19%. More established districts such as Al Danah and Al Nahyan experienced minor corrections, with rents slipping by 2% and 7% respectively, reflecting a higher concentration of older, secondary stock that is less favoured by occupiers.James Hodgetts, Partner – Occupier Strategy & Solutions, MEA, noted that there is 'good news on the horizon' with a strong pipeline of high-quality developments poised to enter the market. This new supply is expected to ease current constraints, offer occupiers greater choice, and set new benchmarks for quality, sustainability and design. Immediate completions include Aldar's HB Tower in Yas Island, providing 238,647 square feet of Grade A space, and the Saas Business Tower on Al Reem Island, delivering 129,210 square feet. Both developments are positioned to appeal to international and domestic corporate occupiers seeking flagship office environments.The supply pipeline points to a surge in new stock from 2027, with nearly 175,000 square metres of office space scheduled for delivery that year, following more modest additions of around 51,000 square metres in 2025 and just over 43,000 square metres in 2026. Shehzad Jamal, Partner – Strategy and Consultancy, MENA, said: 'Demand is likely to remain robust and continue to outpace the delivery of premium supply for the rest of the year, fuelling further rental growth in the prime segment. Pre-leasing activity for landmark projects scheduled for 2026–2028 will be a key indicator of sentiment, with the performance gap between Grade A, well-located assets and older secondary stock expected to widen as the flight-to-quality trend intensifies.'In Dubai, the Dubai Office Market Review showed record high-value transactions, with 83 office sales over Dh10 million in H1 2025 — a 207% jump from H1 2024. Average prices in Downtown climbed above Dh5,000 per square foot, while Business Bay surpassed Dh2,000 per square foot for the first time. The business services sector drove 38% of Dubai's total demand, followed by technology (31%) and real estate (12%).Durrani said Dubai's Grade A vacancy rates were 'at record lows,' contrasting with other global gateway cities, while Adam Wynne, Partner – Head of Commercial Agency, UAE, noted strong occupier demand for entire floors or buildings in upcoming developments.
Knight Frank forecasts that by 2030, Dubai's office stock will reach nearly 148 million sqft, supported by more than 25 million square feet of new supply, much of it already being sold off-plan.

'Qatar is no longer just following global fintech trends—it's becoming a regional leader,' Sarah McAllister, a global fintech analyst, told The Peninsula. 'The integration of digital payments, open banking frameworks, and blockchain infrastructure is not only modernising financial services but is positioning Qatar as an innovation hub in the Gulf.' Meanwhile, the Qatar Mobile Payment initiative, launched by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) in April 2025, allows users to link multiple wallets to a single phone number, streamlining transactions further, and mobile money platforms such as Ooredoo Money are innovating to serve expatriate communities, which enables remittances and cross-border transfers, including to PayPal accounts. The QCB introduced its fintech strategy in 2023, which features open banking as a key pillar, with a formal regulatory framework expected by 2026. On the other hand, blockchain and digital assets are emerging as strategic frontiers. Tasmu Digital Valley projects that Qatar's blockchain market could skyrocket from $33m in 2022 to $253m by 2026. McAllister noted that these developments have attracted global attention. Doha hosted the MENA Fintech Summit this year, drawing policymakers, investors, and innovators from across the region. The event highlighted sessions like the insurtech, blockchain, embedded finance, and the role of fintech in sustainable development. 'What sets Qatar's strategy apart is its coherence: regulatory foresight via the QCB, ecosystem development through QFTH, and the digital infrastructure built by private and public players all align under Qatar 2030's vision,' the market expert noted. As Qatar continues to expand its fintech footprint, several key trends are emerging. With open APIs and digital partnerships, banks and non-bank players are increasingly embedding financial services into everyday platforms. On the other hand, with Islamic and sustainable fintech, tailored products that align with religious and ESG standards are gaining ground. Additionally, the QCB's phased licensing for digital banks, with initial capital requirements lays a strong foundation for innovation. Karim Awad, group CEO, EFG Holding/Image: Supplied EFG Holding, a financial institution with a universal bank in Egypt and the leading investment bank in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), reported a 21 per cent year-on-year (YoY) revenue increase in Q2 2025 to EGP6.1bn, supported by strong results across all business lines—particularly EFG Finance, its non-bank financial institutions (NBFI) platform, and Bank NXT, its commercial bank. Total operating expenses, including provisions and expected credit losses (ECL), rose 22 per cent YoY to EGP4.1bn, driven by higher provisions—mainly in EFG Finance—and increased general and administrative (G&A) costs, while employee expenses remained flat. With revenue growth outpacing expense growth, net operating profit rose 19 per cent YoY and net profit before tax increased 21 per cent YoY. Net profit after tax and minority interest grew 2 per cent YoY to EGP802m. Group CEO Karim Awad said: 'Our second quarter results demonstrate the continued resilience and strength with which EFG Holding operates, supported by its diversified platform and strong geographic footprint. EFG Holding's first half of 2025 has been defined by meaningful milestones and strong momentum. Foremost among these is Valu's listing on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) in June, complemented by Amazon's decision to exercise its Option Agreement with EFG Holding to acquire a direct stake in Valu. The period's financial results highlight the standout performance of EFG Finance, driven by Valu and Bank NXT. Our Asset Management platform continues to expand, with assets under management growing, while the Investment Banking division closed transactions totaling more than $1bn in the quarter.' Business line performance EFG Hermes posted flat revenues at EGP2.7bn, with a 131 per cent YoY increase in combined Holding & Treasury Activities, Brokerage, and Buy Side revenues. Holding & Treasury Activities rebounded to EGP397m from a loss of EGP503m in Q2 2024. Brokerage revenues rose 25 per cent YoY, led by Egypt, Kuwait, and UAE markets. Net profit after tax and minority interest fell 11% YoY to EGP268m, due to lower profitability in the Investment Banking division. EFG Finance revenues surged 66 per cent YoY to EGP1.8bn, driven by broad-based growth. Valu led with a 71 per cent YoY revenue increase, fueled by securitisation gains, higher fees, and a 60% rise in loan issuances to EG4.7bn. Tanmeyah and Corp-Solutions also saw growth, with Leasing's portfolio doubling to EGP17.7bn. Operating expenses jumped 82 per cent YoY to EGP1.2bn due to inflation-driven costs, higher provisions, increased staff costs, and one-time listing expenses. Net profit after tax and minority interest fell 15 per cent YoY to EGP230m, due to higher minority interest after Valu's share distribution and reduced ownership from 95 per cent to 67 per cent. Bank NXT delivered 30 per cent YoY revenue growth to EGP1.6bn, led by higher net interest income and interest-earning assets. Operating expenses rose 23 per cent YoY to EGP694m, offset by a 27 per cent decline in provisions and ECL. Net profit after tax and minority interest jumped 39 per cent YoY to EGP304m. Awad concluded: 'Amid ongoing geopolitical volatility and persistent macroeconomic headwinds, market dynamics across the MENA region remained varied, both in terms of liquidity and overall performance. Nonetheless, the Brokerage business delivered notable growth in total executions, driven primarily by robust activity in Kuwait and the UAE. Bank NXT continued to broaden its portfolio, diligently cultivating a strong base that will underpin future growth and generate lasting value. Anchored by a solid foundation, the firm is well-positioned to adeptly navigate changing market conditions and confidently capitalise on emerging opportunities for the benefit of clients and shareholders alike.'

The deal is valued at C$12.1 billion ($8.9 billion).The transaction, which took effect on August 12, 2025, was executed through a statutory plan of arrangement under the Business Corporations Act (Ontario). Under the deal, Mubadala Capital acquired all outstanding CI common shares for C$32.00 per share, excluding rollover shares held by some executives, representing an equity value of approximately C$4.7 billion ($3.5 billion)."CI Financial is an incredible business that aligns closely with Mubadala Capital's long-term vision and strategy," said Hani Barhoush, CEO and Managing Director of Mubadala Capital. The acquisition also positions CI to further expand Corient, its US subsidiary, while preserving Corient's private partnership model. 'For Mubadala Capital, this investment enhances its strategic presence in the North American investment and wealth management sectors and underscores its ability to execute complex, high-value transactions,' a separate Mubadala statement said. 'It also complements Mubadala Capital's long-term approach to building resilient platforms in key global markets.
