The restrictions will apply to public and private land, including gardens, in these areas. A consultation found there was "overwhelming support" for the zones in Broomhouse and Govanhill, as reported by BBC Scotland. Council chiefs and local politicians hope the ban will curb pyrotechnic-related disorder and increase public safety, including protecting vulnerable residents and animals from loud noises. Pollokshields Councillor Jon Molyneux, who has been campaigning for a city-wide ban, welcomed the restrictions. He said: "After a deeply disappointing 'false start' last year it is good that a fireworks control zone is going ahead in Pollokshields, as well as in Govanhill and Broomhouse. "It is vital that these restrictions are well-communicated so people know the rules and the consequences of breaking them. "It is also important that they are part of a wider package of measures to prevent people misusing fireworks." A fireworks ban was planned for Pollokshields last year following previous incidents of Bonfire Night disorder. But Glasgow City Council missed the deadline and restrictions couldn't be enforced. Huge fire erupts at Scots hotel as crews race to tackle blaze Several applications were also lodged for firework-free zones in Woodlands Park, Gartcraig, Crossmyloof, Robroyston, Drumchapel, Ibrox, Yoker and North Kelvin but they were rejected. Edinburgh was the first local authority in Scotland to ban fireworks last August. The Niddrie area of the capital has previously seen chaotic scenes around Bonfire Night, with emergency services workers previously targeted by thugs. The decision was made following consultation responses from council officials, Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
