USA Today named a North Jersey bar one of America's best. We wish these spots made the cut.
USA TODAY Network food journalists from across the country pooled their expertise to select the bars, which include the places they know, love and recommend.
Nutley cocktail bar Cowans Public the list this year due to its exceptional drinks, expansive local draught beer list, convivial atmosphere and throwback vibe. But, of course, there are many other bars in North Jersey worth celebrating, so here are 10 other spots that we wish were on the Bars of the Year list.
Great Notch Inn, Woodland Park
Great Notch Inn looks a little out of place on the side of bustling Route 46; its wooden edifice exudes down-home roadhouse vibes. But there is more that is extraordinary about the Great Notch than just its look. This family-owned and operated bar has been slinging drinks, hosting bands and fostering memories since 1936. It's simply one of the best dives—and I use that word with reverence—in North Jersey.
Go: 400 Route 46, Woodland Park; 973-256-7742.
Cloverleaf Tavern, Caldwell
Founded in 1933, the Cloverleaf is an old-fashioned pub with some seriously good eats: I'm talking great burgers, beer-battered fish and chips and fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs. But what separates this beloved tavern from others is its extensive beer list. On draught, you'll find more than two dozen local and mid-major craft beers, which rotate throughout the year. And if you still don't find somehting you like, there tons more cans and bottles to choose from.
Go: 95 Bloomfield Ave., Caldwell; 973-226-9812, cloverleaftavern.com.
PJ Finnegans, Westwood
How about a Guinness? At Bergen County's PJ Finnegan's, one of the best Irish pubs in the state, the bartenders know exactly how to pour you a 20-ounce pint. If that's not your bag, though, opt for some other easy-drinking beers on tap and dine from its menu of elevated Irish pub grub. Above all, the cozy, well-decorated interior will have you feeling alright and planning your next trip back.
Go: 274 Fairview Ave., Westwood; 201-664-7576, pjfinnegans.com.
dullboy, Jersey City
Jersey City's serves a suite of expertly made original and classic cocktials and globally inspired light bites in a sleek interior. Choose thoughtfully composed signature cocktails like the Alexa (sotol, mezcal, caffo red bitter, passionfruit, honey and lime), classics like a Paper Plane or a reserve rye-based Vieux Carré (my favorite), or hop on a tequila or mezcal flight. As the name does not imply, a trip to dullboy is a delight.
Go: 364 Grove St, Jersey City; 201-795-1628, dullboybar.com.
Cellar 335, Jersey City
The gorgeous interior of Cellar 335 — muraled brick walls, upholstered red chairs, reclaimed church furnishings, washed stone floors — will be enough to sweep you off your feet, but the fare here is equally breathtaking. Chef Jamie Knott's spot offers Asian-inspired casual cuisine, which are paired with tiki drinks for a culinary experience you're unlikely to get elsewhere.
Go: 335 Newark Ave, Jersey City; 201-222-1422, cellar335.com.
The Laundromat, Morristown
Talk about a hole in the wall... er, laundromat. This Morristown speakeasy does service to the style with a lively bar cloaked by, for all intents and purposes, a small laundromat. Once you find your way in, get ready for craft cocktails, live music and the coziness of leather couches and tables in the dim, brick-walled drinking parlor. This style of bar boomed a decade ago (and a decade plus a century ago), but The Laundromat has stood the test of time.
Go: 4 Dehart St., Morristown; 973-745-3508, thelaundromatbar.com.
Bar Franco, Montclair
Bespoke cocktails with an Italian flair are the name of the game at Montclair's Bar Franco. Award-winning mixologist Luca Cinalli, originally from Abruzzo, Italy, helms the bar and serves unique, upscale cocktails in a swanky space that's not replicated in the area. If the elegant cocktails have you feeling like a million bucks, swing for the gold-flaked bomba dessert that comes with a 24-karat diamond-encrusted fork and a shot of Louis XIII cognac.
Go: 5 Church St., Montclair; 973) 337-5100, bar-franco.com.
Meximodo, Metuchen
Those of us in North Jersey will soon be graced by the presence of Meximodo, an agave spirit bar and eatery, in Jersey City, but to bide the time, a trip to Metuchen should be in order. Meximodo is a lively bar and restaurant that holds the Guinness World Record for the largest tequila selection in the world. Try them in classic cocktails or in a flight, or pick your bartender's brain about any and all agave spirits.
Go: 5 Pearl St., Metuchen, and (soon) 25 Christopher Columbus Dr., Jersey City; 732-395-7767, meximodo.com.
The Boat House, Lambertville
Take a trip out to northwest Jersey for a visit to The Boat House; you won't regret it. In this cozy, nautically adorned bar, you can nestle up to a date on the bottom floor, near the tiny bar, or head upstairs for a more spacious gathering. The environs will charm you, but the drinks will knock your socks off. Contemplate the many artifacts and artwork on the walls as you sip on expertly crafted classic cocktails, or stop by in summer for music under the stars.
Go: 8 Coryell St, Lambertville; 609-397-2244, refinedhospitality.com/the-boat-house.

TikTok video goes viral after NJ earthquake: ‘Starting to feel like LA'
NEW YORK (PIX11) – A Billboard chart-topping DJ was enjoying his Saturday night in New Jersey when an earthquake unexpectedly shook him. 'I was sitting on my couch watching TV,' DJ Petie, a top 10 artist on the Billboard Dance Chart, said. 'I thought maybe it was someone below me slamming a door or a truck driving on the street. I also had a feeling it was an earthquake.' More Local News He logged onto X to see if what he had felt was real. His suspicion was confirmed when he checked. What he was feeling was an earthquake in New Jersey that also affected parts of New York City. While some might have panicked, DJ Petie stayed calm and shared some light-hearted content and his thoughts on TikTok. 'Bro, I'm literally sitting on my couch, my whole apartment starts vibrating. I live in New Jersey. I'm starting to feel like I live in Los Angeles,' he said. The earthquake, originating from Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, was recorded around 10:18 p.m., according to the USGS. The magnitude was 3.0. DJ Petie's TikTok post, made soon after the quake, has already surpassed 100,000 views. Thousands of people have liked it. One TikTok user who related to his video commented, 'Why did I think my upstairs neighbors fell or something.' More Local News Another TikTok user, Bri, said, 'This earthquake was different from others; it was loud.' Another social media user commented, 'ran straight to TikTok.' PIX11 News received calls from viewers in Bloomfield, N.J., Westchester, N.Y., and Queens, reporting they felt their beds and TVs shaking. The earthquake's impact has been minor so far, with no reported threats to life or property, according to the Hackensack Office of Emergency Management. DJ Petie, who is currently on tour, called the event 'insane' because he has felt multiple earthquakes since last year. He finds it crazy because he's lived in New York his entire life and only recently started to feel earthquakes. Matthew Euzarraga is a multimedia journalist from El Paso, Texas. DeMarcus Cousins: Nikola Jokic Considered Retirement Instead Of Signing $300 Million Supermax Deal
DeMarcus Cousins: Nikola Jokic Considered Retirement Instead Of Signing $300 Million Supermax Deal originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Nikola Jokic's enthusiasm for horse racing is a well-known fact in the NBA community, and in some ways, even outweighs his love for basketball. Still, the idea that Jokic nearly retired before signing his contract extension comes as a surprise. Former Denver Nuggets center DeMarcus Cousins recently shared the story of how Jokic was contemplating retirement instead of signing a supermax deal on the "Straight Game Podcast". He recalled: "When I was with Denver, our lockers were next to each other. I don't remember who at the time had signed an extension, but I'm like, "Yours is going to be crazy!" He was like, 'You know, Cuz, I honestly think I might retire before this contract.'" Cousins was stunned by Jokic's willingness to walk away from a $300 million payday. "I said, 'Man, you out your motherf***ing mind,'" he continued. "I said, 'Sign the contract and just get fat at worst.' Don't pass up on the $300 million. You can't do that." He recalled Jokic saying he just wanted to relax in the Serbian countryside with his horses. Cousins tried to convince him by joking that he could buy more horses with the money. Jokic's disinterest in playing basketball was also noted when the four-time All-Star emphasized that Jokic did not care much about playing in the NBA. He claimed: "If you ever get a chance to just hold a conversation with him, and he tells you a little bit about himself, he really doesn't give a f**k about this s**t. He doesn't care. At all. This is like his second or third favorite thing to do. Maybe third or fourth. Most games, when he's dropping these crazy stats, he probably doesn't want to be there. And that's the scary part about all of it." If Cousins' statement is to be believed, something plenty of evidence supports, Jokic may be the most naturally gifted player the NBA has ever seen. Even disengaged, the Nuggets superstar remains one of the best players in the league. As a perennial MVP candidate, the Serbian big man consistently delivers unreal numbers to help his team secure victories. In the 2024-25 season, Jokic put up an average of 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.8 assists, while shooting 57.6% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range. Absurd numbers for someone who treats basketball like a hobby. Jokic's love for his horses and being home in Serbia is endearing to fans, but it raises several concerns for the Nuggets organization. Having declined their recent extension offer, possibly for a significantly more lucrative deal next season, the big man could very genuinely leave the team at some point. While ownership is already uneasy about Jokic's future in Denver, the bigger question is whether he'll stay in the NBA at all. To keep him invested, the Nuggets have been active in building a stronger roster this offseason, effectively seeing them emerge as contenders. The prospects for the upcoming season may be positive, but the superstar will currently focus on representing his home country at the upcoming EuroBasket story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 31, 2025, where it first appeared.

How to watch WWE Summerslam 2025: Live stream and match card for night two
WWE Summerslam night one is in the books and now attention shifts to night two as the John Cena retirement tour continues. On what will be his final Summerslam appearance, Cena faces the person he dethroned at WrestleMania 41 to become a record-breaking 17-time WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. Only this time the stakes have been raised as Cena puts the Undisputed WWE championship on the line in a street fight. This means the pair can battle inside and out of the MetLife Stadium because this match has no disqualifications, falls count anywhere and weapons are legal. There's an argument to be made that Rhodes, to date, poses the biggest threat to Cena's title reign but the 'American Nightmare' will no doubt have to pull out all the stops to avenge his loss from less than four months ago. In addition, there are five other championship matches to whet the appetite tonight. All of which have the potential to steal the show - and quite possibly the entire weekend. The WWE United States title will be defended in a steel cage as new champion Solo Sikoa faces Jacob Fatu in a rematch from WWE Night of Champions. The odds are not in Naomi's favour as she defends her newly won Women's world championship in a triple threat match against Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY. It's the last chance saloon for Lyra Valkyria because if she fails to beat Becky Lynch for the WWE Women's Intercontinental championship in a no DQ and no count-out match, she can never challenge for the title as long as Lynch is champion. Elsewhere on the card, The Wyatt Sicks defend the WWE tag team championships in a six-pack tables, ladders, and chairs (TLC) match, while AJ Styles looks to capture the WWE Intercontinental championship from Dominik Mysterio. Another huge night of wrestling awaits and here's everything you need to know about where to watch Summerslam night two unfold... How to watch WWE Summerslam 2025 night two Live stream: In the UK, night two of WWE Summerslam 2025 can be watched and streamed live on Netflix. Coverage starts at 11pm BST tonight, Sunday, August 3, 2025. A membership costs £4.99 a month and the subscription can be cancelled at any time.
