Lowes CEO worth $400 million rises to top of high society at Gold Dinner - after she banned celebrities from the prestigious $3500-a-head event

Linda Penn has become the undisputed queen of the Sydney social scene.
The Lowes Menswear CEO, who, alongside her brother and Lowes co-owner Jeffrey Mueller is worth a cool $400 million, held court at the glamorous Gold Dinner in Sydney on Wednesday night.
Linda heads the Gold Dinner Committee alongside her son Joshua, and rules the charity event with an iron fist.
Every year an influential mix of business and philanthropic leaders attends - and the gala was once also littered with A-listers before Penn and her son banned them from the event.
In the past, celebrities like Chris Hemsworth, Roxy Jacenko, Ian Thorpe, Hamish Blake and Karl Stefanovic made appearances on the red carpet.
In 2023, a swathe of celebrities walked the red carpet, including the likes of cricket WAG Candice Warner, actor Lincoln Younes, Sunrise star Natalie Barr and Ex-NRL star Cooper Cronk.
Gold Dinner co-chair Joshua revealed ahead of the 2024 gala that the event will shun celebrities going forward, as they 'don't seem to add much value'.
'I'm always told to invite the celebrity or the famous rugby player and put the WAG on the list but it is just not our thing,' Penn explained.
'We have done it before and they end up taking up valuable space', he added.
Joshua said that the attention is usually too much on the celebrities, rather than on the purpose of the event.
On Wednesday, the only celebrities of note came in the form of Sunrise co-hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington, as well as former Wiggles performer Emma Watkins, with Sydney's wealthy elite making up most of the guest list.
The invitation-only gala is held annually at a secret location in Sydney and is given a unique theme every year.
For the first time, this year the Gold Dinner was held at the Royal Botanic Gardens' Parade Ground Lawn, set amongst Sydney's most iconic landmarks and framed by the vibrant light spectacle of Vivid Sydney.
With close proximity to Government House and iconic landmarks the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge - all being illuminated as part of the city's renowned festival of light - this year's event is themed 'Light Up a Child's Life'.
It offers guests a symbolic and immersive experience that ties directly to its cause as they aim to raise $80 million - the most ambitious target to date.
For almost three decades, the Gold Dinner in Sydney has united Australia's leaders and captains of industry to support the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network through the SCHF.
Now expanded to Perth, and with plans to hold events in the USA and UK with Australia expats, the Gold Series is recognised as Australia's most prestigious philanthropic initiative.
Sydney's Gold Dinner has raised over $90 million since its inception in 1997, directly transforming the lives of sick kids and their families by funding life-saving treatments and care.
Linda posed alongside some of her esteemed attendees, including former Deputy Leader of the Opposition Kristina Keneally.
The Lowes matriarch stood out glittering silver gown with art deco panels and semi-sheer skirting.
She added to her ensemble with a gold purse and a diamond necklace that matched her earrings.
As the co-owner and Managing Director of Lowes Menswear, Linda works full time overseeing the entire operation, which includes over 190 stores, online portals and over 1900 staff across Australia.
Linda and her dentist husband David, who founded Southern Cross Dental laboratories, have three children.
She previously told Belinda International that despite her business nous, her family is her priority.
'Look after yourself from a health and mental well-being perspective' Linda said in offering advice for working mothers.

Former EastEnders star Anita Dobson ‘utterly thrilled' after being made OBE

Former EastEnders star Anita Dobson has said she is 'utterly thrilled' after being made an OBE. The 76-year old London-born actress, best known for playing Queen Vic landlady Angie Watts on the BBC soap, was recognised for services to charitable fundraising and philanthropy. Dobson is a patron for several charities including Thames Hospice and Focus Foundation, which provides support for grassroots charities and local organisations. Speaking about the OBE, she told the PA news agency: 'I'm utterly thrilled and completely honoured and a bit bowled over and very excited. And all my friends have been texting and sending support. It's just been wonderful. It's very moving and I'm thrilled. 'It's not like a little one, where a few of people in the world know – everybody knows. And so it feels like you you're having a big hug. 'My face is so stretched you can't believe it. This is a very happy day and I just feel very lucky and people have just been texting in and being so supportive and so lovely. 'I hope everybody that's got an honour from the honours list has the same thing happening to them, that lots of people are making them feel special. Because I sure am.' The actress is an ambassador for the Sick Children's Trust and a former president of Phab, a charity that helps children and adults with and without disabilities to feel independent and confident. Speaking about her motivation to get involved with charities, she said: 'I think it's really important to, particularly in my industry, to pass things on. To pass anything that you've learned along the way, or little hints you can give on to the next generation. 'I've always felt like that you should help people. And there's a lot of people with nothing now, with no hope, no homes to live in, not much food, not much clothing. So if you've got a lot, then it doesn't hurt, does it, to give a bit of it away and share it and make people's lives a little bit better, really? 'I sort of work on a very kind of basic level. I just think, if someone's in trouble, you help them. 'I had nothing when I was younger, and it's been the hard slog getting to anywheresville, and look where I am now. It's a good feeling to pass things on. 'I do lots of phoners where people ring in and they're in trouble and maybe you can't solve their problems, but you can sure as hell help them feel heard and that they matter, and that there is somebody in the world who has got the time to listen to them and maybe give them some advice that might point them in the right direction, or introduce them to somebody else who can help them in a better way than you can.' Dobson recently reprised her role as Angie for EastEnders' 40th anniversary, appearing in the Queen Vic as a ghost while her adopted daughter, Sharon Watts, played by Letitia Dean, was seen fighting for her life after an explosion in the pub. The shock return won the series the scene of the year gong at the 2025 British Soap Awards. She also played mysterious character Mrs Flood in the long-running BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who, having joined the series on Christmas Day 2023. During Ncuti Gatwa's second season as the Time Lord, it was revealed that Mrs Flood was a disguised incarnation of the Rani, a renegade Time Lady and villain. She added: 'I had a lovely message from Russell T Davis (Doctor Who Showrunner) this morning saying congratulations, which is lovely. We'll see what happens in the future, or whenever. 'I just have had a lovely time working for them. It's been a real blast. Russell said to me, come and have some fun. And I did. I just had fun. It was a real gift of a job.' The actress is also known for her stage performances and in 2003 was nominated for the best actress Olivier Award for her role in Bryony Lavery's Frozen at the National Theatre Cottesloe. Dobson was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing with professional Robin Windsor in 2011, but was voted off after nine weeks. Born in 1949 in the east end of London, the actress has been married to Queen guitarist Sir Brian May since 2000.

Married At First Sight star Teejay Halkias reveals shocking $10,000 price tag behind his reality show stint

Married At First Sight star Teejay Halkias has lifted the lid on the financial burdens he incurred from appearing on the popular reality TV series. The 29-year-old groom has revealed he spent thousands of dollars over two months of filming, shedding light on the hidden costs rarely discussed. 'It's expensive being on the show. I think I spent close to 10 grand of my own money,' Teejay told the On It Off It podcast. He then warned that those thinking of applying for the show should ensure they are financially secure before doing so. 'If you're not in a position to go on financially, you can get in a hole,' he said. Married At First Sight star Teejay Halkias has lifted the lid on the financial burdens he incurred from appearing on the popular reality TV series Teejay said he was paid $150 a day for his stint on the Channel Nine dating experiment, which he claimed did not begin to cover his expenses. 'They pay for lunch, Monday to Friday, but you've got to buy your breakfast and dinner, make all your food, your groceries,' he said. 'Commitment ceremonies, dinner parties, you need two new outfits every week. They don't pay for that either. And then you've got to date this person off-camera as well and go on off-camera dates. You've got to pay for that as well.' He added he was unaware how expensive the MAFS experience would be when he first signed up. Last month, Teejay revealed he made a move to reconnect with his TV wife Beth Kelly after their dramatic breakup. The groom made the shock admission he felt compelled to check in on Beth, 28, once filming was over. 'I tried to reach out and make sure she was doing okay. I know she was pretty upset during the show,' he told 9Entertainment. 'She wanted to chat about a few things, so we had a chat and that was that. We had a long conversation, it was good.' The 29-year-old groom has revealed he spent thousands of dollars over two months of filming, shedding light on the hidden costs rarely discussed Last month, Teejay revealed he made a move to reconnect with his TV wife Beth Kelly after their dramatic breakup While the reunion wasn't romantic, Teejay said their relationship is now on friendly terms. 'Things are obviously platonic between Beth and I. It won't be anything romantic... but amicable,' he said. 'If we see each other out we'll speak to each other and whatnot, but I wouldn't say we're best friends.' It comes after Beth Kelly dramatically ended her relationship with Teejay just days before the couple were due to face one another at Final Vows. In March, the hair salon manager from the Gold Coast made the heartbreaking decision to walk away from the experiment after weeks of feeling rejected by her TV husband. Beth blindsided viewers and Teejay alike by calling it quits as the pair packed up their belongings at the eleventh hour, following an emotional fallout at the final dinner party. Breaking down in tears, Beth confessed: 'That conversation [at the Dinner Party] has made me feel so s**t. 'It's obvious he doesn't want me, doesn't want this relationship, and I can't go to Final Vows and stand in front of someone that I've had feelings for, confess that I wanted a future with them, for them to tell me that again.'
