'I will be on PUP because the team wants to move slow, to be safe, which I agree with,' Johnson wrote on X. 'Not because I'm not ready. All is well.'
Johnson suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in Week 2 last season and was not a participant in spring workouts.
The 2023 Pro Bowler was expected to challenge his career high of 7.5 sacks last season before the injury derailed his upward trajectory.

Aaron Glenn is here to take away the Jets pain he knows all too well
The reprogramming of the New York Jets, the remaking of the New York Jets in his image, began in earnest on this first day of training camp, under a man who doesn't scare and is certain he is built for this. Thirty-one years after his first practice as a rookie wearing No. 31 for the New York Jets, Aaron Glenn was Sleepless in Florham Park, waiting excitedly to tackle head-on what has turned into a Mission: Impossible nightmare for others, but for him has been his dream job since his playing days ended in 2008. It won't happen overnight, but Glenn was an eyewitness to the resurrection blueprint under Bill Parcells as a player and more recently under Dan Campbell as a coach with the Lions, and he vows to the long-suffering Jets fan base that it will happen. And whenever it does, and of course a Super Bowl is the eventual goal, the makeover will result in a Jets team that is virtually unrecognizable to Jets fans.
