SEANWFZ Committee Meeting Set For Today Ahead Of ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Talks
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- The meeting of the Executive Committee of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) will be held today, in conjunction with the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings.
The SEANWFZ meeting is expected to revisit ASEAN's long-standing efforts to preserve the region as a nuclear weapon-free zone, as outlined in the 1995 SEANWFZ Treaty.
While all 10 ASEAN member states have ratified the treaty, efforts to secure the signatures of the five recognised nuclear-weapon states – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States – to the treaty's protocol remain ongoing.
Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan had previously stated that China and Russia have agreed to sign the protocol, while the United States is still reviewing the treaty.
Also taking place today are the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) and the Drafting Committee of the ASEAN SOM, which will prepare the groundwork for ministerial-level discussions, including negotiating and finalising the Joint Communique which will be the key outcome document of the 58th AMM.
The communique is expected to outline ASEAN's collective positions on regional integration, community-building and various regional and global issues.
The 58th AMM and related meetings, to be held under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship themed 'Inclusivity and Sustainability,' will feature 24 ministerial-level meetings, including engagements with ASEAN Dialogue Partners and Sectoral Dialogue Partners.
The high-level meetings, to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from July 8 to 11, will gather about 1,500 delegates.

KSN Awaits Full Report On Fake MC Case Linked To Civil Servant
MELAKA, July 7 (Bernama) -- Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said he is awaiting the results of an investigation into the alleged submission of fake medical certificates (MCs) by a civil servant in Sungai Petani, Kedah, as reported by the media yesterday. According to him, the investigation is still ongoing and he has yet to receive a full report on the case. '(The investigation) is still ongoing and the report will be submitted to me soon,' he told reporters after attending the Melaka-level Jelajah Taat Setia MADANI Programme at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, here today. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh officiated the closing ceremony of the programme, which was also attended by Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad. The media yesterday reported that three individuals, including a heart patient, had been arrested over their suspected involvement in the sale of fake MCs. Their activities were uncovered following an internal probe into a policeman who frequently went on sick leave, with the MCs he submitted found to be suspicious. Meanwhile, in his speech at the programme, Shamsul Azri said civil servants' loyalty to leaders should not be seen as personal, but rather as loyalty to the principles of constitutional democracy. 'As civil servants, we serve a legitimate government in accordance with the law. We are not bound to any political party, but to the oath of office we have taken to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. 'Loyalty to leaders is not individualistic in nature but a means of strengthening national stability, enhancing administrative effectiveness, and ensuring the continuity of lawfully formulated national policies,' he said.

Islamic Preachers, Missionaries Reminded To Always Adhere To Religious Ethics, Guidelines - Mohd Na'im
KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar today reminded Islamic preachers and missionaries, especially those operating independently, to always adhere to the ethics and guidelines set by the respective state religious authorities. He said that the process of screening the background, character and qualifications of independent preachers and missionaries who operate without the recognition or supervision from an authoritative institution also needs to be strengthened to ensure the teachings delivered bring benefit, not slander. "I would like to remind every preacher, missionary and individual who carries the image of Islam, especially independent religious figures, to always uphold good morals, integrity, and self-respect in accordance with Islamic teachings. 'Holding the position of a preacher is not a licence to exploit religion for personal gain or to engage in immoral or unlawful behaviour,' he said in a Facebook post today. Mohd Na'im said the MADANI Government is also committed to strengthening a more structured, professional, and integrity-driven preaching ecosystem. In this regard, he said, his office, together with Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM), organised programmes such as Felo Muda Dakwah (FMD) and Akademi Daie Muda YADIM (ADMY), which focused on efforts to produce young preachers in the country. "To date, 364 individuals have undergone intensive training under both programmes since they were introduced in 2014. This is part of the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs)'s ongoing effort to produce preachers who embody the values of a MADANI ummah," he said. Commenting on a recent case involving an independent speaker suspected of disseminating sex videos, Mohd Na'im said the incident had serious negative implications, not only damaging the dignity of the individual involved but also tarnishing the image of the dakwah institution and undermining public trust in religious leadership. He also urged the public to give the authorities space to conduct a thorough, fair, and transparent investigation and not to be hasty in making sweeping generalisations or judgments.
