Edmonton Oilers hold home-ice advantage this time in Stanley Cup Final
Article content Fans in Edmonton will never know how that one-goal game might have turned out had it been played on home ice, with the full support of the Oilers faithful fueling the team in search of its first Stanley Cup in 34 years. But this time around, the Oilers will at least hold home-ice advantage, opening the series with two games at home, beginning Wednesday, June 7 (Sportsnet, CBC), while also hosting Games 5 and 7, if necessary. Edmonton finished third in the Pacific Division with a 48-29-5 record for 101 points, eclipsing the 98 points the Panthers put together with a 47-31-4 record to finish third in the Atlantic Division. It is the first time in these playoffs Edmonton holds home-ice advantage, while the Panthers finished behind their opponents in all four rounds. But don't go planning the parade route through downtown Edmonton just yet. Home-ice only affords so much of an advantage beyond sleeping in your own bed, having the support of the crowd and having the last line change.
