Delhi Swiggy delivery boy steals mobile phones, laptops to meet online IPL betting expenses, arrested
The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a 30-year-old Swiggy delivery boy for alleged thefts reported in Mandawali, Shakarpur, Laxmi Nagar, and adjoining localities.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Vikram Kumar, also known as Vicky, 30, would often leave his house in the early hours of the day to break into houses, as his job as a food delivery agent frequently took him through these areas.
'Many people would not worry about locking their houses during 6-8 am. Most of them would be busy taking a bath or cooking. He would sneak into some houses where he had delivered food earlier, and steal mobile phones or laptops lying on tables near the entrances,' a police officer said.
According to the police, Vicky was into online IPL betting that couldn't keep up with his income and hence he resorted to stealing electronic items, the police said.
A total of 10 mobile phones and one laptop were recovered from him, which solved six e-FIRs of house thefts, the police said.
Vicky has over 16 cases lodged against him at different police stations, said an officer. He has been arrested multiple times before and was out on bail. He came into the police's crosshairs again after he stole two mobile phones from the Shakarpur area, the officer said.
'Vicky was apprehended from a vacant plot situated between Hyundai Showroom and Aditi Apartment, Narwana Road, Mandawali. Appropriate legal action has been initiated under Section 35(1)(E) BNSS at Mandawali police station,' Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), said.

Back from Dubai, human trafficker lands in police net
New Delhi: Zakir Daud Khan thought he outsmarted the law after his placement agency was exposed in a human trafficking scandal in 2022, and several colleagues, including one of the owners, were arrested by Economic Offences Wing. Khan fled to Dubai, but his return to India a few weeks ago proved to be his undoing—a routine card transaction alerted the authorities, who swiftly arrested him. Khan's agency allegedly duped innocent people from Delhi, promising them lucrative jobs in the UAE in exchange for exorbitant fees. "Once in the UAE, these individuals were subjected to inhumane conditions, with their passports confiscated, leaving them vulnerable and helpless," said additional commissioner of police (special cell) Pramod Kushwaha. The special cell of Delhi Police arrested Khan, who was declared a proclaimed offender, from Padgha in Maharashtra. Khan was wanted in the case registered under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Arms Act, and a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. The arrest was made possible after Khan's recent activity in a bank account in Padgha was tracked by a special cell team, led by inspector Chandrika Prashad and supervised by ACP Sanjay Dutt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Rhea Reports Creative Content Services at Rhea Reports rhreareports Learn More Undo Khan evaded arrest since early 2022, and despite efforts by different teams of Delhi Police to trace him, he remained absconding. A reward was declared for information on him. "Khan's involvement in the human trafficking racket dates back to when he started working as an agent for Fiza Placement Pvt Ltd, a company that promised fake overseas employment opportunities to job seekers," said DCP Amit Kaushik. He recruited people through other agents, facilitated their contact with the company, and collected payments in cash, cheques or bank transfers. Khan worked on a partnership basis, receiving a share of the defrauded money. The company, along with its sister concern, ASIATAS Consulting (OPC) Pvt Ltd, targeted people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar, collecting money from each of them for forged visas, and retained their passports. Over 80 complaints were filed, with victims losing crores of rupees. Khan fled to Dubai after the case was registered but returned to India and was hiding in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra. Police are now working to uncover the extent of Khan's involvement in the human trafficking racket and identify other people who may have been involved. The investigation is on, and police are urging anyone who may have been a victim to come forward. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . 'Suspension Hasty': Moily On Siddaramaiah's Action Against Cops After Bengaluru Stampede
Last Updated: Veerappa Moily, a former Karnataka chief minister, told News18 that the police officials could have been given a lesser punishment and 'maybe' suspended after a preliminary inquiry Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has, for the first time, come under criticism from within his own party over the handling of the stampede near Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, with senior Congress leader and former union minister Veerappa Moily saying that the suspension of top police officers was an 'unwanted measure". Moily, a former Karnataka chief minister, told News18, 'They could have been dealt with a lesser punishment and 'maybe' suspended after a preliminary inquiry." The stampede on June 4, which claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)'s celebration of its first Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 18 years, has triggered sharp criticism over the timing and handling of the event. In a letter to Siddaramaiah, Moily said, 'A lesser punishment should have been given, and the best approach would have been to transfer the officials or send them on leave. After an inquiry, based on the facts, they could have been suspended." In an unprecedented action, chief minister Siddaramaiah had announced the suspension of the city's police commissioner B Dayananda, who was scheduled to be promoted as DGP in July. Along with Dayananda, the CM had also announced the suspension of the additional police commissioner (East) Vikas Kumar Vikash and deputy police commissioner Shekhar HT. 'As a chief minister, one should have a sober approach. There is no need to react impulsively to the circumstances. As an administrator, you must make decisions with sobriety," he told News18. Moily, known to call a spade a spade, in his letter, which is with News18, has written that the chief minister's disciplinary action against several officials in a short span of time seemed a 'drastic and unwanted measure". 'It would be wise to review the administration's hasty actions regarding this incident. There is a possibility that this could bring a bad name to your administration," Moily wrote. 'Make efforts to hold all scheduled matches' The veteran Congress leader highlighted the public response to the incident and the decisions taken by the government, emphasising that 'Bengaluru's reputation, earned over decades, should not be erased by this recent accident". He noted that the city, which has contributed many talented cricketers to the national and international arenas, has now come under criticism in the cricketing world. Moily reiterated that rather than launching multiple inquiries, the situation demands a thorough investigation by a retired judge, with the report submitted at the earliest to restore public trust and confidence among cricket lovers. The onus, he said, is now on the government to act swiftly and create an organised, peaceful environment that reflects the true spirit of the occasion. 'It is imperative that you, as the Chief Minister, take special precautions in this regard. You have already arranged an inquiry by the Honourable District Magistrate, an investigation by a retired High Court judge, and a CID investigation into this incident," he stated in the letter. He also placed the onus of clearing Bengaluru's and Karnataka's names on Siddaramaiah by conducting a proper investigation, which he believes has come under scrutiny after the stampede. 'Special care must be taken for those who died and were injured in the accident—not only by providing compensation, but also by showing empathy to the families of those who lost their lives and to the injured, and by instilling confidence in them," Moily advised. Referring to reports that future cricket matches in Bengaluru may be shifted to other venues in light of the incident, Moily also stressed that the government must send out strong signals that 'appropriate steps have been taken regarding the incident and that such incidents will not happen in the future", ensuring that cricket and other matches can be conducted in a safe and proper manner. Moily's reference was to the reports that the three-match one-day series between India 'A' and South Africa 'A' that was scheduled to be held in Bengaluru between November 13 and 19 has been shifted by the BCCI 'without any specific reason" to Gujarat's Rajkot. Bring back RCB pride: Moily Speaking about RCB's recent IPL victory, which has filled Kannadigas with pride, he emphasised that instead of celebrating the moment, it has sadly turned into a blame game. 'This is unfortunate. The negativity surrounding the RCB team must be dispelled, and the focus should return to celebrating their achievement with pride. It is the government's responsibility to ensure that the chaos caused by a few overzealous fans and the negligence of certain individuals does not leave a lasting stain on RCB or the cricketing world," Moily's letter stated. top videos View all Calling on the government to act swiftly and in a just manner, the senior Congress leader said it is imperative that the Congress-led Karnataka government take immediate steps to create a well-organised and peaceful atmosphere in the state. 'I am confident that you will take swift action—both to maintain government credibility and to create a safe environment for cricket lovers," he stated. tags : ipl karnataka RCB Location : Bengaluru, India, India First Published: June 13, 2025, 23:42 IST News politics 'Suspension Hasty': Moily On Siddaramaiah's Action Against Cops After Bengaluru Stampede | Exclusive

Servers of two city hospitals hacked; police register FIR
New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered an FIR after the servers of two hospitals in north Delhi, Sant Parmanand Hospital in Civil Lines and NKS Super Speciality Hospital in Gulabi Bagh, were allegedly hacked. Patient data, financial records and administrative files were accessed during the breach, which took place late Tuesday night. The cyberattack allegedly led to major disruptions in the functioning of both hospitals, prompting police action under relevant sections of the IT Act. "A case has been registered under section 66 (Computer related offences) of the Information and Technology Act and the help of technical experts is being taken to trace the source of the hack," DCP (north) Raja Banthia said. According to sources, the hospital staff initially believed the disruption to be a technical glitch. However, a deeper probe by IT teams confirmed that it was a deliberate cyberattack. Following this, both hospitals alerted the police. NKS Super Speciality Hospital authorities said the attack had "severely disrupted the hospital's servers, affecting access to digital patient information and impacting some outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) services." The breach occurred during the intervening night of June 10-11. The hospital said that it had activated manual systems to continue providing essential services. Sant Parmanand Hospital's statement was awaited. Police said efforts are underway to trace those behind the cyber attack. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
