IAS Kaushal Raj Sharma goes to inter-cadre deputation to Delhi

Due to his proximity to the Prime Minister Office (PMO), there was buzz in the bureaucratic circles that Sharma will go on central deputation soon and that he might get top post in the central government or PMO.
An order issued by department of personnel and training on Tuesday states that in the exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 6 (1) of the Indian Administrative Services (Cadre) Rule, 1954 and with the concurrence of the Uttar Pradesh government and Ministry of Home Affairs, the Centre has accorded approval to inter-cadre deputation of Kaushal Raj Sharma from UP cadre to AGMUT (Delhi segment) for a period of three years.
The AGMUT cadre refers to Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram, Union Territories including NCT of Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Puducherry.
The order makes it clear that during deputation, Sharma will be posted in Delhi. There are speculations that Sharma might get top post in Delhi government.
Sharma remained in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency Varanasi— for over 5 years—first as the district magistrate and then as the commissioner of Varanasi division, before being shifted to Lucknow as secretary to the chief minister.
Earlier, he was posted as the CDO Lucknow and special secretary in the infrastructure and industrial development department. He has also served as DM in five districts, including Lucknow, Pilibhit, Muzaffarnagar, Prayagraj and Kanpur Nagar.
Sharma was posted as Varanasi DM on November 2, 2019. The state government had to cancel his transfer when he was promoted and posted out of Varanasi as divisional commissioner Prayagraj in June 2022.
He held dual charge as Varanasi DM and Varanasi divisional commissioner for some period. Later, he continued to work as divisional commissioner since October 7, 2022.

Power employees to launch nationwide strike against privatisation on July 9
Over 27 lakh power sector employees across India will go on a nationwide strike on July 9 to protest against the proposed privatisation of power distribution in 42 districts Uttar Pradesh. The strike will be preceded by district-level protests on July 2, the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCEEE) made an announcement in this regard after its Delhi visit on Monday. According to a senior UP trade union leader and All-India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) chairman Shailendra Dubey, the committee warned that a symbolic nationwide strike would be held the moment UP floats a privatisation tender. It also urged the Centre to intervene and halt the process in public interest, citing the potential impact on farmers, households and the poor. 'NCCEEE leaders will also attend a mass convention in Lucknow on June 22, where a larger public movement against privatisation may be announced,' he said. The committee praised the ongoing 194-day protest by UP power employees and condemned alleged repression by the state power corporation. It warned that continued suppression would force a stronger national response. Meanwhile, the UP government has banned strikes in the power sector in the state for next six months under the Maintenance of Essential Services Act. The government issued an order in this regard on June 6.

BSP to discuss steps for OBC outreach today
Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party will hold a meeting of the newly constituted OBC Morcha of its state unit on Tuesday. The OBC Morcha was formed on March 25, when party national president Mayawati issued instructions to the cadre on how to reach out to OBCs in the state to bring them back to the party fold. In the upcoming meeting, UP state president Vishwanath Pal and other senior functionaries will review the action taken on the instructions of the party president. OBCs, along with Dalits, were once the vote base of the BSP. Many OBC leaders in the state, who now have their own political outfits, were once with the BSP, said sources in the party. To win over OBCs, BSP has started putting functionaries from the backward castes in key roles at the district, sector, and booth-level organisation. They have been instructed to reach out to OBCs in villages and towns and expose the anti-OBC agenda of the BJP, Congress, and Samajwadi Party. They will also highlight the steps taken by BSP govts in UP for the welfare of OBCs, such as constituting a separate department for the welfare of backward classes in the state in 1995 and creating two new districts, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Nagar and Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar, in 1997. Mayawati, in the March 25 meeting, asked the cadre to inform the OBCs about the welfare and development schemes initiated for them by the BSP, besides building of memorials, parks, and institutions to immortalise their icons. "Village-level meetings have started and OBCs, along with Dalits, have been made in-charge at every assembly segment to hold these programmes regularly," a party functionary said.

NGT lists Kukrail night safari case for next hearing on Aug 21
LUCKNOW The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has granted the UP government four weeks to respond to a case regarding the proposed relocation of Lucknow Zoo to Kukrail and the construction of a night safari in the same area. The tribunal has listed the case for next hearing on August 21. Seeking to remove roadblocks in the ambitious Kukrail night safari project, the UP government had filed an impleadment application in the Supreme Court on April 8, seeking permission to establish the safari and relocate the Lucknow zoo to the Kukrail forest area. The plea is yet to come up for hearing. Lucknow-based social activist Alok Singh filed this case in the NGT. He raised concerns over the night safari project at the Kukrail reserve forest, for which around 1500 trees were proposed to be felled. He also moved the SC on April 11, 2025, on this issue. The Supreme Court has given July 15 as the tentative date for next hearing of the case. A detailed project report (DPR) of the night safari, coming up on a 900-acre maple leaf design in the 2027.46-hectare Kukrail forest, was presented before chief minister Yogi Adityanath on November 19, 2024, roughly two years after its digital survey in December 2022. However, the project got stuck due to the apex court's February 19, 2024 order restraining the central and state governments across the country to establish zoos and safaris in forest areas (other than protected areas) without approval of the top court. This order was passed by a three-judge bench headed by former CJI Justice Dhananjay Y Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra.
