French tourists issue desperate plea to find beloved dog missing on Conic Hill

A French couple are desperately hoping to find their beloved Cocker Spaniel that went missing near the summit of Conic Hill on Thursday.
A French couple on holiday in Scotland have issued a desperate plea to try and trace their beloved pet dog which went missing on one of the country's most famous hillsides.

They had been scaling Conic Hill, near Loch Lomond, on Thursday, July 17 with their beloved Cocker Spaniel.

Owners Virginie Sibylle and Stéphane Tronche are now urgently looking to trace six-year-old Caramel.

The pet pooch was last seen near the summit of the hill at around 4pm that day.
The couple, from Angers, north western France, were enjoying a holiday in nearby Balmaha and will remain in the country until Saturday, July 26.

Issuing an appeal to walkers in the area, they said: 'He's easily recognisable as he's missing hair on his back so you can see his black skin.'
Caramel had been exploring the local area in the days prior to going missing, including a boat trip on the Steamship Sir Walter Scott across Loch Katrine.
They're now urging any walkers in the Conic Hill area who think they may have spotted Caramel to get in touch.
Anyone who thinks they've seen the dog are asked to contact the couple on WhatsApp on either 0033667102884 or 0033620464620.

Ryanair asks passengers to act as flights cancelled in UK

The budget airline is calling on NATS CEO, Martin Rolfe to step down after staff shortages delayed 38 flights by up to an hour this week. Those delays impacted the travel of more than 7,000 UK passengers, Ryanair said. In a message to its passengers, the airline said: 'Ryanair has long campaigned for ATC reform to ensure that ATCs are fully staffed, but UK ATC delays are getting worse due to repeated NATS mismanagement and staff shortages. 'Ryanair calls on all passengers to visit the 'Air Traffic Control Ruined Your Flight' webpage and demand that Transport Minister, Heidi Alexander, sack Martin Rolfe and reform NATS's hopeless ATC service, so that airlines and passengers do not suffer further avoidable ATC delays at the hands of NATS's continued mismanagement and staff shortages.' NATS is the UK's leading provider of air traffic control services, providing assistance for both civilian and military aircraft in UK airspace and at several UK airports. ‼️ French Air Traffic Control strikes extended to 4 days (3-6 July) ‼️ ❌ further EU-wide delays ❌ thousands more passengers impacted Once again, we're calling on EU President @vonderleyen to urgently reform EU ATC services. Demand action👇 Ryanair's message comes days after fellow airline easyJet expressed their 'extreme unhappiness' with strikes by French air traffic control (ATC) workers. Tens of thousands of passengers were disrupted when French ATC staff walked out on July 3 and 4 in a dispute over working conditions. Flights to and from French airports, as well as those scheduled to fly over French airspace, were affected. Kenton Jarvis, chief executive of the Luton-based carrier, warned that the industrial action is presenting 'unacceptable challenges'. Mr Jarvis said: 'We are extremely unhappy with the strike action by the French ATC in early July, which as well as presenting unacceptable challenges for customers and crew also created unexpected and significant costs for all airlines.' He described the walkout in early July as 'very, very disruptive' as it forced it to cancel 660 flights and cost it £15 million. The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) states that airlines must provide you with care and assistance if your flight is cancelled under UK law. This means they need to provide people with accommodation if they are re-routed to the next day, transport to and from the accommodation, a reasonable amount of food and drink (usually as vouchers) and a means for you to communicate (often by refunding the cost of your calls). The authority adds: "The airline must provide you with these items until it is able to fly you to your destination, no matter how long the delay lasts or what has caused it." If there is major disruption airlines are not always able to arrange care and assistance for all passengers. In those situations, the CAA recommends organising your own accommodation and transport and claiming the cost back later. They add: "If you end up paying for things yourself, keep every receipt and do not spend more than is reasonable. "Airlines are unlikely to refund you for things like luxury hotels or alcohol. Some will provide guidance on reasonable costs." Additionally, your airline must offer you the option to receive a refund for all parts of your ticket that you have not used or choose an alternative flight for.

Much fuss was made over Camille when it opened in 2024. Everybody clamoured for a table at the bistro where the food was French but fun and which – separating itself slightly from what was becoming tedious – employed the services of chefs who had to guile to place a sliver of lovely smoked eel on the egg mayonnaise. Fast-forward to today and the eggs have gone but the candles haven't. Nor has the enjoyableness of it all. Dishes such as crab pissaladiere are almost as charming, while tomato tatin is a savvy way to use lesser tomatoes. Camille is as much about the vibes as the food. Go if you have a hot date or if someone else is paying. Or, ideally, those two things at the same time.

Scenic town where King Charles enjoyed fish and chips named Scotland's top coastal view

The town was ranked fourth in a UK poll for its stunning harbour and scenic coastal views A new study has named the scenic harbour town of Portree, on the Isle of Skye, as the location with the finest coastal view in Scotland. ‌ Ranked fourth overall in a national poll commissioned by Haven Holidays, Portree's picture-perfect harbour, colourful seafront and dramatic backdrop secured its spot among the most breathtaking coastal scenes in the UK. ‌ Portree is the largest settlement on Skye and is known for its charming pastel-painted buildings that line the waterfront, as well as its peaceful harbour, nestled beneath steep cliffs, Scottish Daily Express reports. ‌ The view from the quay stretches across Loch Portree towards Ben Tianavaig, a 413-metre hill classed as a "Marilyn" for its prominence. From its ridge, visitors often spot golden eagles or sea eagles soaring overhead in the blue Highland skies. The nationwide survey asked 2,000 people to name the most stunning seaside locations across Britain. Cornwall's St Ives took the top spot, followed by Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire, and Padstow, also in Cornwall. ‌ Tenby in South West Wales completed the top five behind Portree, whose inclusion in the list cements its reputation as one of the country's most beautiful and tranquil coastal spots. In September 2021, King Charles and Queen Camilla experienced the view for themselves during a visit to the town, where they enjoyed fish and chips from local fisherman Dan Corrgiall's harbourside shop. ‌ The royal couple, dressed in traditional tartan, were serenaded by Gaelic singer Robert Robertson, lead vocalist of folk-rock band Tide Lines. 'It just felt like a really nice conversation, and it was a real pleasure,' he recalled of meeting them. Simon Palethorpe, chief executive of Haven, said: 'You don't need to go far from home to get picture postcard views and scenery. ‌ "There's nothing better than starting and ending your day with a sunrise and sunset view over the sea, even more so when it's on home soil. Brits are still so surprised by the breathtaking coastline we have in the UK.' The poll also revealed that coastal surroundings remain a top priority for holidaymakers. In addition, 85 per cent of those surveyed said they would happily pay more to stay somewhere with a sea view. Relaxation (60%) and a sense of escapism (36%) were the top reasons given for choosing coastal locations, with many citing the mental and physical health benefits of being near the sea. According to the survey data, more than two thirds of people believe that the coastal views found across Britain easily rival those abroad.
