For better and for worse, our canine companions can be absolutely fearless. Perhaps that, combined with the seemingly unwavering loyalty, is why we have given them the nickname man's best friend.
But sometimes our beloved fur babies are just as capable of the same follies as we humans. Sometimes, they can get a little too caught up in the moment and exhibit serious overconfidence.
Take the very feisty Labradoodle, Zelda, in this video, for instance. When a massive black bear came into her yard, she had absolutely no qualms about barking her little head off like a maniac and charging right at this mighty apex predator to give them a piece of her mind.
That was pretty intense, to say the least! Zelda's human mama can be heard saying, 'Oh my gosh, she's going to die!' towards the climax of this wild encounter. Thankfully, both Zelda and this massive black bear were able to walk away from this skirmish unscathed.
Although truth be told, we don't know that there was ever any real danger of Zelda hurting this black bear. And apparently, that was not a memo that Zelda received. She was only concerned about being a good little guard dog, no matter the intruder.
And she really did help that black bear off, chasing them all the way out into the middle of the street until the hulking creature was fully in retreat. Thankfully, this black bear never really put up a fight. As soon as Zelda was running around and frantically barking at them, they began to walk away, regarding her with disinterest.
Of course, Zelda was very proud of herself for defending her yard. You can see her tail wagging furiously as she trots back to her human mama with plenty of pep in her step.
Even though bear attacks are incredibly rare in North America, of the ones that happened, many involved a dog that was not on a leash.
While our canine companions can smell bears and alert their humans about potential danger, a dog chasing after these creatures is asking for trouble.
If you do see a bear outside, do not approach the creature. You want to make sure that your dog remains calm and that you respect the bear's space.
You do not want to try running away or making any sudden movements, because bears can run faster than 30 mph, meaning they can easily chase you and your dog down.
It's a good idea to make sure that the bear has a way to leave and does not feel trapped where they are. And remember, the best encounter between a bear and a dog is the one that doesn't happen at all.

Netflix is quietly searching for an exec to lead its video podcast efforts as it chases YouTube

Netflix is quietly searching for an exec to lead its video podcast efforts. The streamer is chasing YouTube, which has cemented itself as a video podcast titan. Podcast listening and advertising are on the rise, and media giants are investing. Netflix is quietly searching for a podcast leader as it looks to bring video pods onto the streaming platform, two people close to the company told Business Insider. Netflix had previously explored potential deals with podcasters as it sought new areas of growth, as BI first reported. The hunt for an exec to lead a video podcasting effort shows how seriously Netflix is taking the space. The streamer's interest comes as rival YouTube has cemented itself as a living-room fixture and video podcasting powerhouse. Netflix has also shown interest in creator content more broadly. "We're really excited about 'The Sidemen' and 'Pop the Balloon' and a wide variety of creators and video podcasters that might be a good fit for us, and particularly if they're doing great work and looking for different ways to connect with audiences," co-CEO Ted Sarandos said on the company's second-quarter earnings call this month. "The Sidemen" and "Pop the Balloon" are two Netflix shows that began in the creator realm. Netflix has not publicized a podcast lead job opening and declined to comment for this story. One person who had conversations with Netflix said the company wanted someone who could make video-first podcasts for a big audience. Many of today's biggest podcasts started as audio-only endeavors and later added video as audience habits changed and YouTube gained prominence. The lines between video talk shows and podcasts have increasingly blurred, and newer podcasts often now start with video in mind. It's not clear where the podcast role would sit inside Netflix. A second person who had conversations with the company said they believed it would sit in Netflix's TV and film licensing arm under Lori Conkling rather than the original content side. That could signal that Netflix might look to license existing shows, as it's done with some YouTube creators like preschool entertainer Ms. Rachel, as well as make original shows with hosts. Separate content-side hires could follow. Edison Research has charted the continued rise of podcast listening. In a new report out this week, the firm said 73% of people ages 12 and over in the US listen to or watch podcasts, up from 55% in 2020. Video is on the rise, too, with 51% of people 12 and up saying they've watched a podcast, according to Edison. Podcast advertising grew 26.4% to $2.4 billion in 2024, according to the IAB. EMARKETER projects it will top $2.5 billion in 2025. Other media heavyweights have made big moves to chase the podcast-listening audience and the advertising that can come with it. In February, Fox acquired Red Seat Ventures, which produces Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, and others. Amazon paid $300 million for podcast company Wondery in 2020, The New York Times reported at the time, after snapping up audiobook company Audible in 2008.

Vince Gilligan's 'Breaking Bad' follow-up just got an unsettling first teaser — here's when it's coming to Apple TV Plus

Yesterday, we learned that "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan's next show was going to drop a first look — today. Now, it's finally here ... we think. In yesterday's announcement, we got a countdown timer hinting at a 3 p.m. ET reveal. But today at 12:33 p.m. ET, the X (Twitter) account @itsSaulGoodman dropped what looked like a leaked teaser trailer for the upcoming Apple TV Plus sci-fi show starring "Better Call Saul" star Rhea Seehorn. The first teaser from Vince Gilligan's new series "Pluribus" starring Rhea Seehorn Nov 7th only on Apple 25, 2025 The big news that came along with that eerie teaser is that "Pluribus" is coming to Apple TV Plus on Nov. 7. Great news for those of us who have been waiting for this show since 2022. Here's the thing, though — we don't know if this is the first look that the streaming service promised. The countdown timer is still showing on YouTube as of this moment. So is this the first look we were expecting? Was all we were going to get an unsettling 30 seconds of a woman (presumably Seehorn) licking donuts and putting them back in a box? Or, is there still a longer trailer to come at 3 p.m. ET? If the answer to the last question is yes, we'll be sure to update this article accordingly with a reaction to the full trailer. If it's not, it seems like we'll need to wait a bit longer to get all the details on what could be the next great Apple TV Plus show. Much Rewind launches on YouTube as archive of MuchMusic's celebrity interviews

TORONTO - MuchMusic's deep library of celebrity interviews has found a new home on YouTube. Bell Media says it recently launched Much Rewind as the official public archive of pop culture moments that once aired on the nation's music station. Early uploads to the YouTube channel include Much VJ interviews with Missy Elliott, Christina Aguilera and Eminem. Also added over the past week were Master T's interview with late R&B singer Aaliyah and Bill Welychka's stairway chat with notoriously prickly Oasis brother Noel Gallagher. MuchMusic head Dave Krikst says the YouTube channel will be updated every weekday with a digitally restored interview pulled from the vaults. He says shorter clips from some interviews will be posted on Instagram and TikTok. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 25, 2025.
