Aamir Khan Rejects Rs 120 Cr Amazon Deal For Sitaare Zameen Par OTT Release: Report
Last Updated:
Aamir Khan turned down Rs 120 Cr Amazon offer for Sitaare Zameen Par, opts for delayed YouTube release instead.
Aamir Khan has reportedly declined a whopping Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video for the OTT release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par. As per trade analyst Komal Nahta, Khan is taking a bold stand against the current trend of early digital releases, with a vision to restore the theatre-going culture in India.
Khan's decision to hold back the OTT premiere by at least eight weeks is part of his strategic move to encourage audiences to return to cinemas. 'The idea is to make people choose the big screen experience again by not giving them the home-viewing option so soon," a source close to the development said.
In recent years, the film industry has seen a significant shift towards streaming services, with most films arriving on OTT platforms just weeks after their theatrical release. Aamir believes this quick transition has contributed to the decline in footfalls in cinemas.
Interestingly, this isn't the first digital offer Khan has turned down. Netflix had also shown interest in acquiring Sitaare Zameen Par, but the actor-producer reportedly rejected that deal too, sticking to his belief in a delayed digital model.
Instead of handing over the rights to a major streaming service, Khan plans to release the film digitally on YouTube—on a pay-per-view basis. This gives him full control over the release window and pricing, allowing him to test the waters for alternative digital strategies.
Sitaare Zameen Par, which also stars Genelia D'Souza, is slated for theatrical release on June 20. The film is expected to carry emotional weight, similar to Khan's acclaimed 2007 directorial Taare Zameen Par.

Visitors complain of ‘poor' facilities at amusement park
Bhubaneswar: Visitors to BDA City Centre, formerly known as Nicco Park, have expressed dissatisfaction with the facility's deteriorating conditions despite an entry fee of Rs 100. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Once a bustling hub of entertainment, the park now leaves visitors disheartened, with many questioning the value of the entry fee given the subpar experience. The park, which previously boasted a variety of attractions, including a mini toy train, merry-go-round, caterpillar, tilt-a-whirl, moonraker and boating, now offers only three operational rides — the vortex ride, water coaster and striking car. The reduction in available attractions has left many visitors feeling short-changed. G Nikita, a resident, shared her disappointment after a recent visit. "We saw the photos of the park and facilities and went there to spend a good time. First they took Rs 700 for seven people, but the rides they provided were not up to the mark. The other city parks are way better," she claimed. Siddhant Kumar Barai, a corporate employee, said, "The worst part is the odour. The water coasters are in a dilapidated condition. The pond for boating also stinks." In response, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has announced plans for a comprehensive redevelopment of the park. The ambitious project, at an estimated budget of Rs 200 crore, will include the development of a 3.5-km stormwater channel and a lake zone along drainage channel 10 near Smart Janpath. BDA vice-chairman N Thirumala Naik said, "The issue was discussed recently at a high-level meeting and it was decided that an agency will be roped in for redevelopment of the park." Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A tender for the project is expected to be floated soon. Suprabha Dhal, from the park's operating team, attributed the decline in visitor numbers to damage from past cyclones and the impact of Covid-19 pandemic. "Earlier, the daily footfall used to be 5,000, but now there are not more than 200 visitors. The govt is planning a revamp of the park and will allocate funds for the purpose. We are hopeful the park will return to its earlier glory soon," Dhal said.

The actor has reportedly declined a massive Rs 120 crore offer from Amazon Prime Video for the film's digital rights, choosing instead to delay its OTT release in a bid to revive India's theatre-going culture. According to trade analyst Komal Nahta, Khan's decision is a calculated move to push audiences back into cinema halls. 'The idea is to make people choose the big screen experience again by not giving them the home-viewing option so soon," a source close to the development told News18. Aamir stands firm against early OTT releases Over the last few years, the industry has witnessed a swift shift toward streaming platforms, with most films dropping on OTT just a few weeks after their theatrical debut. MrBeast eyes Emmy nomination for Beast Games, says ‘minds are gonna be blown' with Season 2
MrBeast has urged fans to vote for his TV series Beast Games in the outstanding reality competition program and host categories in the upcoming Emmy awards. Nomination voting for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards began on June 12 and ends on June 23, ahead of the announcement of official nominations on July 15. There are 600 series in contention across the 15 program categories. Speaking to Variety, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, said he wants people to know of the efforts that have gone into making the show. Beast Games is facing major competition from popular titles like RuPaul's Drag Race, The Traitors, The Amazing Race and Top Chef. The biggest YouTuber across the globe with more than 402 million subscribers, MrBeast said it's hard to do theorised content on the video sharing platform, since people doing 10-episode shows "don't really do that well, because YouTube recommends random videos." He said the plan was to do something where his team can go in depth and do more storytelling. Asked how the show bolstered his YouTube viewership, MrBeast stated that it "wasn't a money play, per se." "It did reach an audience, which was cool, and it had a higher female penetration than my YouTube channel does, so a lot of it was a different demo," he told the news outlet. MrBeast highlighted that his team has set a standard that they follow and want their content to be viewed by people as a family and not have to worry about something they don't want their family to see. On the response from viewers, MrBeast shared that several parents told him that it was a way for them to connect with their children. In the second season of the TV series, MrBeast is planning to set the bar higher. He revealed that it will be more skill-based, a 'little less-like randomness." Fans might not have to wait for too long for the Season 2 of Beast Games as he said they are actually in the middle of filming right now. "The games are so good. (There are) epic sets. People's minds are gonna be blown with this season," he said. Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast, is the world's biggest YouTuber with more than 402 million subscribers. According to MrBeast, the show reached 50 million viewers in just 25 days after its premiere on December 19 last year. As of now, there is no official release date for Season 2 of Beast Games.
