An ankle injury has ruled one Manchester City player out of today's friendly against Palermo
Phil Foden has sustained an ankle injury.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City's clash with Palermo, Pep Guardiola revealed that Phil Foden has sustained an ankle injury. When asked why Foden wasn't included in Manchester City's travelling squad for today's match, he said: 'Phil was doing good but he had a problem with a knock on his ankle that's why as a precaution we did it.'
The Manchester City manager was hopeful that Foden could play next weekend against Wolves. Guardiola said when asked if Foden could play next weekend: 'Phil, hopefully. It depends on the problem. But it's a long week so hopefully.'
Manchester City will be hoping that Foden can play next weekend to kick-start his 25/26 season.
Phil Foden does loom as an important player for Manchester City next season. If he can return to his best after a tough 24/25 season he could hold the keys to City's season. At his best Foden is one of the best players in the Premier League. The hope is that Foden can get back to that level as quickly as possible from a Manchester City point of view.
On the fitness front, it is hoped that Foden can play next weekend against Wolverhampton Wanderers. A good performance against Wolves could kick-start Foden's 25/26 season. But he will have to overcome the ankle injury he has sustained. That will be the focus of attention next week to see if Foden will be ready to play on the opening day of the 25/26 season.

Jaguars scratch Travis Hunter ahead of preseason game against the Saints
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Travis Hunter was scratched Sunday by the Jacksonville Jaguars before their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner out of Colorado and No. 2 pick in last spring's NFL draft, had missed practice in recent days because of what team officials have described as an upper-body injury. The Jaguars also scratched veteran wide receiver Dyami Brown, although it was not immediately clear why. Hunter and Brown both played in Jacksonville's preseason opener last week, a 31-25 loss to Pittsburgh. Hunter, a rare, two-way player, caught two passes for 9 yards and also participated in eight plays as a defensive back. Brown had 7 yards rushing on an end-around. ___ AP NFL:

Newcastle signs Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa for reported $53M
NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Newcastle bolstered its midfield options ahead of a return to the Champions League by signing midfielder Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa for a reported $53 million on Sunday. The 24-year-old Ramsey, who came through Villa's academy and made 167 appearances for the club, is Newcastle's fourth signing of a transfer window where most of the focus has been on its star striker, Alexander Isak. Isak has been linked with a move to Liverpool. Newcastle has already signed winger Anthony Elanga, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and defender Malick Thiaw. 'This is a big move for me," Ramsey said, 'but as soon as I knew the gaffer (manager Eddie Howe) was interested and really liked me, it didn't take much time to decide. His track record of developing players, especially those who have gone on to become internationals here, speaks for itself.' Howe said Ramsey's 'qualities will bring us something different on the pitch.' 'He fits the profile of being young and hungry to develop, but also with a wealth of Premier League football under his belt,' Howe said. 'Jacob offers versatility and his directness in attack." ___ AP soccer:
