Popular barber in coma in ICU after 'incident' as family ask for prayers
A popular barber has been left fighting for his life in a "medically induced coma" following a tragic incident over the weekend.
Jay Millar, who has been cutting hair for more than ten years and is the proud owner of Jay's Barber Club in Belfast, which he launched just as the pandemic hit in 2020, is now in intensive care.
On Tuesday, April 22, the Facebook page for Jay's Barber Club broke the heart-wrenching news about his condition, urging followers to keep him in their thoughts.
The update stated: "We are devastated to confirm that Jay was involved in an incident on Sunday morning. Jay had a seizure which resulted in a fall and head injury. He was rushed to intensive care where he has remained in a medically induced coma and is currently stable at these early stages."
The message expressed gratitude for the support received after the incident became public through other sources and noted that it's still very early to provide more details, reports Belfast Live.
The post also requested privacy for the family during this difficult period and reassured customers that the shop will continue to run as usual.
"The family have so much to deal with right now so please let them handle this situation in their own way at what is a very distressing time," the message added.
"Jays Barber Club will still operate as normal - please keep supporting the business, you can still book David and Aaron via their booksy account. You can still walk into the shop as normal. Barber courses still continue as normal with our normal group of teachers, nothing changes. We are still taking bookings for the next barber course.
"We will still continue to post on social media as normal. Jay has a family he supports and it is up to us to help this business run smoothly in his absence. We are a team at Jays Barber Club and will continue to help the name thrive until Jay is back on his feet. Finally - but most importantly of all - please keep Jay in all of your prayers. He needs them now more than ever."
In February, Jay shared his life's journey from growing up in care to becoming a successful businessman at an event celebrating Care Day: "I grew up in care, going through the care system with my brother Wayne who was knocked down and killed when he was just seven. I was like a bouncy ball. I was everywhere.
"I joined the Army and learned to cut hair. Being able to make people feel good meant a lot to me. I bought my first shop in Bloomfield Avenue and now have the Academy and we are teaching 200 people a year. Teaching barbering is a life skill."

Two women arrested over alleged sexual assault of child at childcare facility
Two women have been arrested following an alleged sexual assault on a child at a childcare facility in Co Fermanagh. It has been reported that the two women were arrested last month in connection with a PSNI investigation into an incident which is alleged to have taken place at a facility in the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen. The two women, who are aged 26 and 45, have since been released on bail pending further enquiries, according to Belfast Live. The PSNI have confirmed that they are investigating a recent alleged sexual assault in the Enniskillen area and that two women have been arrested in connection with the incident. 'Police investigating a recent alleged sexual assault in the Enniskillen area have arrested two women," a PSNI spokesperson said. 'The women, aged 26 and 45, who were arrested last month, have been released on police bail to allow for further enquiries. 'As this investigation is ongoing, there is no further detail at this time.' SDLP health spokesperson Colin McGrath has expressed his concern over the incident and said the failure of the childcare facility to inform parents of the arrests was "a shocking breach of trust". 'My thoughts are first and foremost with the child and family affected by this deeply distressing incident. I also want to acknowledge the other staff affected by this, whose dedication and support for the children in their care is of the highest quality," Mr McGrath said. 'The fact that parents were not informed until some time after the arrests occurred is a matter of real concern. This is a shocking breach of trust and a complete failure of the provider's duty to safeguard children in their care. Families have a right to transparency, especially when the safety of their children is at stake. 'This facility operates under the remit of the Western Trust. I will be tabling an urgent question to the Health Minister to clarify what oversight the Trust exercised, how this incident was allowed to happen, and what immediate safeguarding actions are being implemented. "Protecting children must be the top and above everything else. The failure to communicate with parents is unacceptable, and those responsible must be held accountable. We need full transparency and a guarantee that all children in Trust-affiliated care are safe."

Dublin trike enthusiast spearheads charity bike run for kids with rare condition
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A Dublin trike lover is spearheading a massive bike and trike run to rally funds for Debra, the charity aiding those affected by a rare skin condition. Over 100 two and three-wheeled enthusiasts will cruise through Wicklow on June 29, in an effort to bolster support for the 300 individuals in Ireland battling epidermolysis bullosa (EB), inviting friends to join in. EB is a genetic disorder characterised by the lack of connecting proteins between skin layers, causing severe blistering from the slightest friction. Those with serious cases of EB have to undergo agonising daily bandaging to manage their blistered skin. Teaming up for this charitable cause are Bikers 4 St Catherine's Special School in Newtownmountkennedy and Irish Trikes, with backing from the military biker club Green Knights Ireland. Clondalkin man Sean Meyler from Irish Trikes is a co-organiser of the event. He said: "On our runs, we go off for a spin before heading to a venue to show the bikes and trikes to children and adults and make an event of it. Personally, I have encountered a few children with EB and it always struck a chord with me." The local enthusiast added: "It just leapt out that maybe there was something we as a biking/triking community of Ireland could do. We are very heavily involved in supporting charities, we go for a spin and we turn up for people in need. We're not looking for medals, if we can do something to highlight a charity in need, we'll do it." The run is perfect for both learner riders and families, starting from Circle K in Citywest, Dublin at 10am sharp on June 29. It's then heads heads south towards Blessington and Hollywood, before rolling into Laragh with a pit stop at Lynhams. The journey revs on to Rathdrum, Glenealy and Rathnew, eventually cruising towards Newcastle Community Centre. At this juncture, it's all about going the extra mile for Debra, promising participants prizes, raffles, grub, and the king of rock 'n' roll himself through an Elvis tribute act. "We're not political or religious," Mr Meyler, 61, said. "We're about watching out for each other and the community and we support other's charity runs." If you fancy joining the pack, just show up on the day or check out more details on the Facebook pages of Bikers 4 St Catherine's Special School or Irish Trikes.
