Edinburgh's Waverley Market is set for a new bowling and games bar with food and drink.
Earlier this year a pre-application notice was submitted to the council for new leisure facilities at the city centre spot. Plans have now been submitted for signage on behalf of King Pins, a chain with several locations across the UK.
The bowling alley would open at unit 23, on Waverley Bridge, and include ten lanes, a mini golf course with nine holes, multiple pool tables, two curling lanes and dart boards on the lower level.
Visuals of the external signage have also been drawn up on behalf of the applicant as King Pins continues its expansion in Scotland, with its first centre in the country set to open in Glasgow at the end of June.
King Pins also offer customers a wide range of food and drinks while enjoying the many games on offer including Neapolitan-style pizza and crispy fried chicken at Marvin's Pizza & Chicken.
They also have a Royal Treats stall where customers can choose from soft serve ice cream, doughnuts, brownies and pick n mix.
Duck Pin Bowling is another game on offer which is perfect for younger children with shorter alleys and lighter balls.
Montagu Evans, who previously submitted the plans to the council, said: "The proposal will provide an assembly & leisure use with an associated restaurant/licensed bar in a highly accessible location adjacent to the Edinburgh Waverley Train Station, and bus stops along Princes Street and within walking distance of inner-city homes.
"Therefore, the proposal supports the 20-minute neighbourhood principle."

Whole Foods is opening in midtown Miami this month, spotlighting 130-plus Florida producers

After much anticipation, Whole Foods Market's Edgewater location is finally set to open: the grocery chain will officially debut a new 53,400-square-foot store located at 2910 Biscayne Boulevard at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 26. And what better way to celebrate than with free coffee and tasty breakfast treats? On opening morning, customers will enjoy complimentary java from Wells Coffee and breakfast items from Zak the Baker. And if you're a true early bird, the first 300 customers in line will receive a custom tote bag and Secret Saver coupon featuring offers up to $100 off. Don't feel like waking up early? Later in the day, Gelatys will pass out complimentary gelato pops to afternoon shoppers. To mark the opening, Whole Foods is also donating food to The Caring Place, a Miami-based organization focused on food rescue, as part of its Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program. The new Edgewater outpost will also be serving up serious Miami vibes: along with bright and bold decor nods that mimic the city's vibrant spirit (think bird motifs and tropical plants throughout), the new location will spotlight an assortment of more than 500 locally made items from 130-plus Florida suppliers. We're talking Key West pink shrimp from Cox's Seafood Co. and grouper from Greg Abrams Seafood over at the sustainably-focused, full-service seafood counter; hyper-fresh lychee and passion fruit from EcoRipe Tropicals on display in the produce section; hand-wrapped fresh mozzarella from Mozzarita and rosemary flatbread from Jennifer's Homemade on stock in the specialty department; and ground beef from Adam's Ranch Natural Beef at the butchery. A full-service coffee bar will pour Cuban-style coffee drinks (from cortaditos to café con leche); a prepared foods department will stock fresh pizza, made-to-order sandwiches and daily-changing sushi selections from Sushi Maki; and the extensive beverage offerings will include more than 240 craft beers (including Florida-born faves like Sunshine City IPA from Green Bench Brewing and Ever Haze IPA from Tripping Animals) as well as ready-to-drink cocktails and more than 700 wines. Cheers to that!

Former BBC studios where EastEnders was filmed riddled with asbestos

A crumbling production complex where EastEnders and other iconic BBC TV shows have been filmed has been found to be riddled with asbestos. A pre-demolition survey of BBC Elstree Centre — sold to investment giant AXA IM Alts — shows that the substance is present across the buildings. Asbestos material was found in studios, a restaurant, the Central Technical Area, Hart House, the historic Fairbanks, a maintenance building and Neptune House, where Holby City was filmed. The new owners commissioned the survey as they turn the world-famous site in Borehamwood, north west London, into a film-making complex meeting modern standards. At the Art Deco-style studios where EastEnders, Children in Need and the BBC's General Election coverage have been filmed, the material was found in more than 150 different places. One sample was taken from insulation within a wall void and given a high priority classification. The inspectors found that the material was likely to be 'easily disturbed' and flagged it as 'remove.' Another sample taken from a restaurant block was classed as 'high priority'. However the material, used for thermal insulation, was judged 'usually inaccessible or unlikely to be disturbed.' Another sample was taken from stairs on the ground floor of studios M and C, according to the document released this week. The presence of the material was judged 'low risk' but Asbestos Consultants Europe Ltd recommended it be removed. AXA IM Alts said in January 2024 that it had exchanged contracts with the BBC for the 16-acre campus, with the deal due to be completed early this year. EastEnders will remain in an already modernised part of the site under a deal between the old and new owners to lease back part of the studio campus over the next 25 years. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The investment company has said in a planning application that 'the existing premises are no longer fit for purpose' and the redevelopment 'will boost the Elstree film industry.' The buyers, who are working with Oxygen Studios on the plans, intend to create a major new film and TV production complex with modern day requirements able to attract large-scale productions. The new development has been named Fairbanks Studios in tribute to actor Douglas Fairbanks, who leased studios on the site in 1952. The report was carried out to protect workers and others from 'asbestos containing materials' which might be unknowingly disturbed during demolition work. A spokesperson for AXA IM Alts said: 'We are fully aware of the presence of asbestos on the site which is common in old buildings and those that have been added to during their lifespan. More Trending 'These buildings are not currently in use and have not been occupied since we acquired them. 'Our development plans to transform the site into a fit for purpose, modern media campus already account for the safe removal of any asbestos using experts in this field and according to current regulations.' The Sportage's facelift brings together a bolder EV-style body with "star-point" LEDs and chunkier bumpers. 3 The model is getting a handsome facelift Credit: Supplied 3 It boasts a new sleek interior For buyers to better understand, they should know that Kia is launching the Sportage in three clear lines. These are named Pure, GT-Line and GT-Line S. Each one comprises a range of electrified powertrains made up from petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrids. Automatic, manual, front and all-wheel drive are all available. Inside the new cutting-edge model is a slick 12.3-inch touchscreen and a clutter-free dashboard. The GT-Line S adds a full digital cockpit and a 10-inch head-up display. All versions keep a 1.6-litre turbo engine but each have different levels of hybridisation. The first hybrid starts with 148bhp and a choice of manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission. Full hybrids have jumped 28bhp to 235bhp thanks to a beefier e-motor. Meanwhile, Kia's plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) powertrain has gotten the biggest upgrade due to a 42bhp increase in power. The first-ever all-electric MINI JCW Aceman It can now punch out a whopping 283bhp. Kia has remained tight-lipped on the electric-only range's max distance - so shoppers can expect it to remain at roughly 40 miles. The car manufacturer is sticking to offering the Sportage in its Euro-centric short-wheelbase form. Models made in the domestic Korean, American and Australasian markets will feature a longer wheelbase The exterior also boasts new colour options - as well as a range of new 17-19-inch wheels. New swipe-down shortcuts and AI voice control make the tech accessible and top of the line. Also important to note, is the glossy scratch-prone plastics used in the surround, which have been binned for a tougher brushed metal trim. Since 2022, Brits have snapped up over 124,000 Sportages and sales have often topped monthly charts. Rivals like VW's Tiguan and Hyundai's Tucson are worthy competitors in the SUV market. But the Kia Sportage was crowned the UK's best selling car of 2024. The old model already looks great, drives sweetly, and has the right mix of hybrid engines, useful tech and practicality. And it starts from just £29,000. The Sportage has been dubbed the "do-it-all family SUV".
