Inside Thom Browne's Upper East Side Store Opening Party
Thom Browne's dachshund was rendered in a bright green topiary stationed on 72nd Street, drawing the curiosity of casual passersby. The troupe of people dressed in coordinating seersucker was another clear sign that something was afoot on the Upper East Side block on Wednesday: the opening of two new Thom Browne boutiques, including a store dedicated to accessories, on Madison Avenue.

Hector himself had dropped by briefly earlier in the day (he's not big on crowds), but the late afternoon cocktail party had plenty of other VIPs in attendance. Guests included recent Emmy nominees Walton Goggins and Tramell Tillman, who both attended the Met Gala with Thom Browne in May, and Cristin Milioti; Christine Baranski and her 'The Gilded Age' costar Louisa Jacobson; 'Materialists' director Celine Song, and Jack Innanen.
'I love everyone's red accents,' said Ella Emhoff, a red handbag slung on her arm, as she took stock of the sartorial theme throughout the room. Everyone, naturally, was dressed in their Thom Browne best, including the man himself.
' It's nice to finally be in the neighborhood,' said Browne, holding court throughout the evening. 'It's an idea I've had for a long time. I live around here, so it's just nice to get this store together.'
Coups of Champagne and trays of ice cream — served in Thom Browne-branded cups — were eagerly accepted as guests made their way around the intimate boutique. Goggins, dressed in a blue and white seersucker suit, paused to browse a rack of clothing upon arrival. The 'The White Lotus' star had an icy glass of lemonade in hand.
' I'm not used to carrying a bag,' said Tillman, navigating the top handle accessory that accompanied his Thom Browne pleated skirt and cashmere mesh basketball jersey, layered over a white button-down, as he posed for photos. The actor is firmly Team Thom after attending his first Met Gala with the designer in May. ' It's very clean, very simple but also elegant — it has a statement, which I truly appreciate,' said Tillman of the designer's approach.
On Tuesday, the 'Severance' actor received his first Emmy nomination, for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series. ' It's a dream come true and 100 percent honor to be amongst all the nominees,' said Tillman. 'And 27 nominations for 'Severance' — it's absolutely incredible.'
' It's been very lovely 24 hours,' said Milioti, who also received her first Emmy nomination this week, for her lead role in 'The Penguin.' 'I'm blown away by the amount of nominations we got. And then also 'Black Mirror' got a bunch of nominations — it's been really great.' The rest of the summer holds 'a little bit of work, a little bit of play' for the actress, and then it's back to Los Angeles for the lead-up to the Emmy Awards in September.
The actress, dressed in a long tailored gray dress, had a front-row seat at Browne's runway show in New York earlier this year. ' It was like witnessing art — walking, breathing art,' she said. 'You feel so fabulous in his clothing. It's so structured and timeless and classic, while being its own creature.'

Bill Clinton wrote a birthday note to Jeffrey Epstein, according to bombshell report
Jeffrey Epstein's birthday album included a letter from former President Bill Clinton, according to a new report. Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who died in jail in 2019, has been at the center of controversy in recent weeks after the Justice Department and FBI released a memo earlier this month stating there was never any Epstein client list of powerful people who may have participated in his crimes. During the fallout from the memo, President Donald Trump's past relationship with Epstein has been scrutinized, and last week, The Wall Street Journal released a report claiming the president had given Epstein a bawdy birthday letter, which reportedly included a drawing of a naked woman, as part of a leather-bound book Epstein's associate Ghislaine Maxwell prepared for his 50th birthday in 2003. Trump has denied authoring any such letter and is suing the WSJ, its parent company and owner Rupert Murdoch for $10 billion. Now, the WSJ has dropped another bombshell, claiming former President Clinton wrote a note to Epstein also included in the birthday album. According to the report released Thursday, Clinton had handwritten a single paragraph in the album, which read, 'It's reassuring isn't it, to have lasted as long, across all the years of learning and knowing, adventures and [illegible word], and also to have your childlike curiosity, the drive to make a difference and the solace of friends.' A Clinton spokesman declined to comment to the WSJ on the reporting and instead referred to a previous statement saying the former president's association with Epstein ended more than a decade before he was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges. The statement also said Clinton didn't know about Epstein's crimes, the WSJ reports. The Independent has reached out to Clinton's representative for comment. Actor Kevin Spacey, who was previously acquitted of sexual offense allegations, recalled in a June 2024 interview with journalist Piers Morgan that he had flown on Epstein's jet with the late financier, Clinton and a group of 'young girls.' Spacey said he had been invited by Clinton on a humanitarian trip to Africa in 2002. Clinton has not been accused of any wrongdoing. The WSJ report Thursday mentioned several other high-profile names that sent messages to be included in the Epstein birthday book. The Independent has not reviewed or separately verified the so-called birthday book. The WSJ previously reported Trump's birthday letter to Epstein had included a note that read: 'Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.' On Truth Social, Trump wrote in response to the report, 'The Wall Street Journal printed a FAKE letter, supposedly to Epstein. These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don't draw pictures. I told Rupert Murdoch it was a Scam, that he shouldn't print this Fake Story. But he did, and now I'm going to sue his ass off, and that of his third-rate newspaper.' Trump socialized with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s, but reportedly cut ties before Epstein pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting prostitution from someone under the age of 18. While Trump has not been accused of any formal wrongdoing or charged with any crime, his proximity to Epstein, someone he once called a friend, has heightened conspiracy theories that the government is withholding documents that could reveal embarrassing information about high-profile individuals. In announcing his $10 billion defamation suit filed Friday against the WSJ, Trump wrote on Truth Social, 'This lawsuit is filed not only on behalf of your favorite President, ME, but also in order to continue standing up for ALL Americans who will no longer tolerate the abusive wrongdoings of the Fake News Media.' A spokesperson for WSJ publisher Dow Jones said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press, 'We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.'

Gwyneth Paltrow Is Staying Unbothered Ahead of New Biography About Her Life, Source Says
Gwyneth Paltrow 'isn't too bothered' by the upcoming book about her life, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. 'Gwyneth's been in the Hollywood game for a long time and so has a thick skin,' the insider continues. 'This book isn't a big deal for her.' Author Amy Odell is set to release Gwyneth: The Biography on Tuesday, July 29, offering insight into Paltrow's life from the early days of her career to behind-the-scenes details on how she became an A-list star. 'She didn't participate in the book like Anna Wintour did with the author's last book,' the same source says about Paltrow, referring to Odell's 2022 book Anna: The Biography. Gwyneth Paltrow Through the Years Odell's book doesn't hit shelves for a few more weeks, but People started rolling out excerpts from the biography on Wednesday, July 16. Portions of the book highlighted for the magazine start with Paltrow's time at a Manhattan private school. 'She had strangely potent charisma, and other Spence girls — even seniors — wanted to invest in knowing this new middle schooler,' the book reads. 'But other students seemed to feel threatened. One classmate recalled, 'Not one person had a doubt that she was going to be famous.'' Both of her past romances with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck are showcased as the book runs through the early days of her career, as is a rumored feud with Winona Ryder over Paltrow's Oscar-winning Shakespeare in Love role. Paltrow allegedly passed on the 1998 film role, with the book claiming that she actually suggested Ryder for the part of Viola de Lesseps. It's been rumored for years that Paltrow ultimately took the role back from Ryder. 'After a story about Gwyneth allegedly stealing the script from Winona's coffee table reached the media, Gwyneth told friends that Ryder had started the rumor, and insisted she'd received the script through her agent,' Odell's book reads. (Paltrow denied the feud in a 2015 interview.) Gwyneth Paltrow's Dating History: Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Chris Martin and More Paltrow's past marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is also discussed throughout the book. The former couple were married from 2003 to 2016 and share two kids: Apple, 21, and Moses, 19. Paltrow has since moved on, marrying producer Brad Falchuk in 2018. Along with her personal life and acting career, Odell's book also addresses the Goop of it all. Paltrow launched the wellness brand as a weekly newsletter in 2008, and it's since become an empire. "Gwyneth was committed to covering products and experiences that translated her own tastes for her audience — however bizarre or inaccessible they might be,' Odell writes. Gwyneth: The Biography will be released on July 29. Solve the daily Crossword

Emily Ratajkowski Posted a Nude Mom Photo Dump — but the Commenters Shamed Something Else Entirely
Emily Ratajkowski's latest photo dump had all the usual ingredients for a good old-fashioned mom-shaming: sun-drenched selfies, summer fashion, a glimpse of her 4-year-old son Sly — and yes, a fully nude sunbathing shot tossed casually into the mix. But this time, the Instagram comment section didn't go after her for the nudity. They pivoted, fast. The carousel showed Ratajkowski enjoying a late-summer trip to Italy. Her followers saw trattoria snaps, an Alfa Romeo Spider, and her son dancing by an olive tree. Nestled in among the scenic views and toddler candids was a photo of the model reclining nude on a lounge chair, wearing nothing but a red baseball cap and a look that said, yes, I know what I'm doing. Historically, this would've sparked the usual cycle of 'you're a mom, put some clothes on!' — the kind of criticism she's fielded for years. More from SheKnows Jennifer Love Hewitt Reveals About Red Carpet Doubts at 46 - & Why She Showed up Anyway Instead? A full 180. 'You need to eat a few peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,' one commenter wrote. 'You're very beautiful young woman, but your rib cage not so.' Another chimed in: 'When you start seeing the whole rib cage it means you might need to put some weight on.' Others speculated about medication — 'Stop with the Wegovy 💉💉' — or offered their own strange diet solutions, like one who asked, 'Emily can I offer you a porcupine sandwich? It's a typical Italian food.' (You can see the photos on her Instagram.) It wasn't just the usual trolls, either. Several commenters attempted to cloak the critique in concern: 'I'm not one to typically say this,' one wrote, 'but this is looking unhealthy. Take care of yourself whatever health struggles you're going through.' This kind of body policing — especially toward mothers — is nothing new for Ratajkowski. In recent years, she's been slammed for everything from being 'too sexy' to dressing her son in clothes strangers deemed 'not good enough.' In early 2024, she posted, 'Shame on you all,' after her comments were filled with strangers telling her she didn't 'deserve to be a mom.' This week's backlash might've shifted its focus, but the message remains the same: If you're a mother in the public eye, the internet will always find a new way to tell you you're doing something wrong.
