Zinedine Zidane snubs monster £84million contract offer after deciding next job

Daily Mirror2 days ago

Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane continues to be courted by clubs who are willing to pay mega-money to lure him back to management but the Frenchman is holding out for one specific role
Zinedine Zidane is said to have turned down a lucrative proposal from Saudi Arabia which would have seen the former Real Madrid manager bank a staggering £84million for just one year's work.
Zidane, 52, has not managed since the end of his second spell in charge of Los Blancos back in 2021. But that hasn't stopped clubs from courting the legendary midfielder, who has been linked with the Manchester United job among others during said period.

Rumblings of interest in Zidane's services from the Saudi Pro League have been heard more recently, with a new report claiming that Al-Hilal made the Frenchman an offer.

As per L'Equipe, the Saudi outfit were willing to pay Zidane €100m (£84m) to commit to just a one-year contract ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup tournament.
But unfortunately for the Saudi Pro League outfit, who have been on the lookout for a new manager since parting company with Jorge Jesus back in May, Zidane rejected their proposal.
They have since been linked with Simone Inzaghi, the Inter Milan boss, who could be set for a new challenge after watching his team get smashed 5-0 by a rampant Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

Despite his prolonged absence from the dugout, Zidane is said to be in no rush to strike an agreement with any interested parties given he is still keen on managing the France national team.
Much has been made of Zidane's ambition to manage his country in recent years and, intriguingly, there will soon be a vacancy with Didier Deschamps poised to stand down from his role after the 2026 World Cup.

Deschamps confirmed earlier this year that the next major tournament would be his last, sparking fresh speculation over the role and Zidane.
On his part, Zidane reaffirmed his plan to wait for that dream role earlier this week when he effectively put himself forward for consideration as Deschamps' successor.
"I feel legitimate in the France team," he said. "[It is] where I played and spent almost twelve, thirteen or fourteen years as a player. Of course, it's a dream, I can't wait."

Who could leave Old Trafford and what are the transfer challenges ahead?

Ruben Amorim was adamant in Hong Kong that Manchester United could work around Bruno Fernandes staying at Old Trafford from a financial point of the situation is not no European football of any sort next season, finances will be tight. Amorim has already said he can operate with a smaller squad given there are fewer matches, so sales are speaking, there are three Amorim just does not want – so the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro who have struggled and it would make sense to sell – Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee fit into this group, as does the bulk are players who have something to offer and United would be open to keeping, but would let go if the right bid came the major issue around all of this is how long would it take to do a deal and how much it would Sancho, for has been established Chelsea would have signed him on reduced terms, which he was not prepared to a Premier League club that has just qualified for the Champions League are baulking at Sancho's wages, it is fair to assume most other clubs will reach the same Sancho refuses to drop his demands and Amorim wants him out, United will have to negotiate some kind of puts them back in the uncomfortable position of paying a player to play for a rival. It is the kind of situation minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe finds so irritating and wants to when you take a realistic approach to Sancho, Antony and Rashford in particular, it is hard to see how that situation is avoided. The same could also be said of many United players who remained at the club last matches may have finished but for United technical director Jason Wilcox and chief negotiator Matt Hargreaves, the hard work is just is how well they do, getting players in and out, that will determine how much progress Amorim can be expected to more about Man Utd's transfer strategy

How Man Utd could line up with Cunha and Mbeumo after £125.5m transfer spree – and where does Bruno Fernandes fit in?

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos have made a fast start to their second summer window since their arrival as co-owners at Old Trafford - and the stakes could not be higher. 8 Man Utd have already confirmed the arrival of Matheus Cunha Credit: AFP 8 Bryan Mbeumo reportedly has his heart set on an Old Trafford transfer Credit: Getty 8 But what does this all mean for Bruno Fernandes after he snubbed a deal to join Al-Hilal Credit: PA While there is an argument to be made that none of the transfers made in the last 12 months were TOTAL flops, it did not stop Man Utd from having their worst-ever Premier League season. And the squad clearly needs a lot of work to bring it up to the standard of even a top-half team. Fortunately, club transfer chiefs have wasted no time in trying to address those issues, first of all confirming the signing of 15-goal Wolves Brazil ace Matheus Cunha for £62.5million. The 26-year-old's move will be completed once he returns from international duty. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL SAN MAN Man Utd STUCK with Jadon Sancho's £300,000-a-week wages as Chelsea pay huge fine Then, just a day later, reports emerged revealing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo had his heart set on a move to Manchester. Mbeumo scored 20 goals and added seven assists last season, and, according to reports, is ready to snub Newcastle and Arsenal to seal a deal estimated to be around £50m. Furthermore, club captain and talisman Bruno Fernandes will now NOT move to Al-Hilal after turning down a crazy offer of £700,000-a-week - and around £100m for United. While Fernandes - the team's only genuine world-class player - seemingly staying is doubtless a positive, it poses the question of how Ruben Amorim will arrange his new assortment of attacking goodies. SunSport has taken a look at three ways Man Utd could line up next season, including some other stars the fallen giants have been linked with ahead of a huge summer. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK As mentioned earlier, Man Utd need work from top to bottom, including both a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and striker, even after the Cunha and Mbeumo deals. For our first possible team, we have named World Cup winner Emi Martinez in goal after SunSport exclusively revealed how the Aston Villa star was "up for the challenge" of turning Man Utd around. Rashford to Inter Milan? Man Utd Star Eyes Shock Serie A Move! The starting back three sees Lisandro Martinez, who prior to his injury was one of the best performers under Amorim, alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, who both got better as the season went on. Fernandes is in midfield, where he can get on the ball the most and set the tempo from deeper, which seems to be his new main position under Amorim. Next to him, is Brighton star Carlos Baleba, who would act as the perfect foil to the 30-year-old in the middle of the park, but crucially also bring on and off the ball quality. The data suggests the 21-year-old is among the best in the league for defensive contributions such as blocks, interceptions and tackles in the attacking third. He also ranks fifth in ball recoveries in the league, behind Moises Caicedo, Fernandes, Elliot Anderson and Joao Gomes. 8 This would naturally be an expensive deal, so only time will tell whether he firstly wants the move and secondly whether Man Utd can agree a good deal with Brighton, who are notoriously tough negotiators. But then, with Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu as the wing-backs supporting Mbeumo and Cunha, we have added former Premier League bad boy Aleksandar Mitrovic into the attacking mix. The Al-Hilal star is reportedly open to a return to England, and joining Man Utd to link up with Cunha and Mbeumo would see the club have three of the best midtable stars the Prem has seen in the last five years. However, our other teams have also swapped some of the names mentioned for similar players linked. In goal, we have also speculated on the arrival of former Man Utd academy shot-stopper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and Serie A star Zion Suzuki. 8 8 Man Utd will need a top midfielder who is physically fit and capable on the ball to strengthen the spine of the team, which also leads us to Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton as an alternative to Baleba. Again, this is an expensive deal. But Man Utd should be eyeing sure hits in the market this summer, rather than speculating on potential - a criteria both Baleba and Wharton, while admittedly still young, already possess. In terms of Fernandes' role, there is an argument to be made that his best football for Man Utd came playing right behind the striker, where he is most impactful in the final third. Cunha and Mbeumo represent two strong profiles to link up with. And should Man Utd suffer a striker crisis or fail to land an appropriate ace this summer, they could always deploy Cunha as a "false 9" with Mbeumo and Fernandes buzzing off of his link play. There is also a chance Amorim switches to a more attacking two-striker system if he wants to really stretch games. If Man Utd can set up a reunion between Amorim and Viktor Gyokeres, he may look to have two fast forwards leading the line to stretch the opposition defence before the likes of Cunha arrive to support them in the final third. Sales will be key to these plans of course, but many are already seemingly in the works, with Rasmus Hojlund attracting interest from Inter Milan, Marcus Rashford linked with Barcelona, and bad boy Alejandro Garnacho tipped for a move to Chelsea or Napoli. 8

Ex-Rangers star Vaclav Cerny gives major update on his future as he reveals his main Ibrox regret in honest interview

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) VACLAV CERNY admits his future in Germany is still up in the air after leaving Rangers last month. The winger will return to Wolfsburg in the coming weeks after Czechia's World Cup qualifying double-header against Montenegro and Croatia. He's reportedly a target for Turkish sides Besiktas and Trabzonspor among other clubs. Reports state Rangers will need to pay around £9million to sign him, though, after they didn't negotiate an option-to-buy clause in the loan deal with Wolfsburg last summer. But Cerny, who previously starred for Ajax and FC Twente, has refused to get sucked into any transfer talk ahead of his return to Germany for pre-season. Wolfsburg are currently without a manager following the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl last month, with Daniel Bauer placed in charge on an interim basis. And speaking to the media while on international duty this week, Cerny confessed: "I still have no idea where I will be playing next season. "The only thing I know is that I am returning to Wolfsburg because the loan was without an option. I have a contract there for two more years. "There will be time for a club future after the national team. "I am a regular player at Wolfsburg . The club does not have a coach yet. Of course, I have some preliminary agreements, or I know what is planned for me. "I would like to get the most out of a successful season. It has become clear what they expect from me, what I expect from them. "I have received a training plan for the summer and we are moving forward." Cerny enjoyed perhaps the best form of his career during his season-long stint at Rangers. He scored 18 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions - scoring eight and setting up two in 12 Europa League appearances. It was, however, his antics off the pitch that seemed to put him in the limelight for the most part though - after his infamous 'watergate' incident at Celtic Park. 3 Cerny spraying Celtic fans with water But his biggest regret in Glasgow? That's leaving the club without winning a trophy. He said: "I managed to play a lot of games, almost 60 in one season, which is wonderful. I had a wonderful relationship with the fans, I think I gave them a lot of nice experiences, just like they gave me. "I'm just sorry I couldn't win anything with Rangers. But I will have very nice memories, they have a magical stadium. Memories for my entire career and my entire life, as I wrote on my social networks. "I hope I managed to bring them what has always been my thing. A lot of the goals and assists were at our home stadium. "I'm really happy that everything turned out like this. It was nice to say goodbye." Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
