Zinedine Zidane snubs monster £84million contract offer after deciding next job
Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane continues to be courted by clubs who are willing to pay mega-money to lure him back to management but the Frenchman is holding out for one specific role Zinedine Zidane is said to have turned down a lucrative proposal from Saudi Arabia which would have seen the former Real Madrid manager bank a staggering £84million for just one year's work. Zidane, 52, has not managed since the end of his second spell in charge of Los Blancos back in 2021. But that hasn't stopped clubs from courting the legendary midfielder, who has been linked with the Manchester United job among others during said period. Rumblings of interest in Zidane's services from the Saudi Pro League have been heard more recently, with a new report claiming that Al-Hilal made the Frenchman an offer. As per L'Equipe, the Saudi outfit were willing to pay Zidane €100m (£84m) to commit to just a one-year contract ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup tournament. But unfortunately for the Saudi Pro League outfit, who have been on the lookout for a new manager since parting company with Jorge Jesus back in May, Zidane rejected their proposal. They have since been linked with Simone Inzaghi, the Inter Milan boss, who could be set for a new challenge after watching his team get smashed 5-0 by a rampant Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday night. Despite his prolonged absence from the dugout, Zidane is said to be in no rush to strike an agreement with any interested parties given he is still keen on managing the France national team. Much has been made of Zidane's ambition to manage his country in recent years and, intriguingly, there will soon be a vacancy with Didier Deschamps poised to stand down from his role after the 2026 World Cup. Deschamps confirmed earlier this year that the next major tournament would be his last, sparking fresh speculation over the role and Zidane. On his part, Zidane reaffirmed his plan to wait for that dream role earlier this week when he effectively put himself forward for consideration as Deschamps' successor. "I feel legitimate in the France team," he said. "[It is] where I played and spent almost twelve, thirteen or fourteen years as a player. Of course, it's a dream, I can't wait."

'I marked Zidane out of Munich Champions League final - nothing fazed me'
Zinedine Zidane was nullified in a Champions League final in Munich during his Juventus days as Scot Paul Lambert inspired Borussia Dortmund to victory in 1997 If Didier Drogba is known for dominating the last final in Munich then it is a Scotsman who has his name up in lights before that. The iconic but now vacated Olympiastadion in Munich was home to Bayern Munich for years - and held its fair share of European Cup finals. The modern day Allianz Arena remains a sight to behold, but the nostalgia of a running track and Olympic heritage was the stage on which one Paul Lambert silenced Zinedine Zidane as Borussia Dortmund shocked Juventus to claim the Champions League. The German side went in as firm underdogs against the Italians, who were also defending champions. If Dortmund had any advantage it was playing in their own country, but that was about it. They couldn't compete with the names of the Old Lady's team sheet as Zidane and Alessandro Del Piero rolled into town. A man from Glasgow, who had previously played for St Mirren and Motherwell, hadn't read the script. Lambert would provide the assist for Karl-Heinz Riedle's opener, but his most impressive accomplishment was nullifying Zidane. The Frenchman was only 12 months out from winning the World Cup and the Ballon d'Or, but the Scot had made a man who was become immortal seem pretty mortal. He previously told the Guardian: 'I was mentally strong. Playing in front of big crowds never fazed me, playing against big players never fazed me. I grew up in a hard area with my mum and dad, nothing fazed me. I compartmentalised my football side and my family side. I was never one to show weakness. "I'm sure some people would call it unhealthy. You're putting a mask on things. My dad would always say: 'You've got more faces than Mike Yarwood, Paul.' People say: 'You marked Zidane out of the game.' But I was part of a great team, we did the whole thing collectively. But I had game intelligence to play with world-class players, where the ball is going to drop. "The thing about Zidane, he drifts off your shoulder. He often goes away from the ball, almost baiting you. But the ball's not the danger, it's him. Zidane did put me on the backside a couple of times because he's brilliant. But he's not going to evaporate, is he? 'After the final, Juventus wanted to sign me but there was no way I was moving. Franz Beckenbauer asked me if I would be interested in joining Bayern. I had everything at Dortmund, though." That would prove to be Lambert's only year with the German side as his family situation led him to return home, but his place in history was confirmed as he was named the man-of-the-match. Zidane ‘can't wait' to take ‘dream' France job
AFP | Paris Zinedine Zidane, widely tipped in France to take over as national coach after the 2026 World Cup, said the job would be 'a dream' and that he was 'looking forward' to taking it. Zidane, who is 52, was speaking at an event on Monday organised by his long-time sponsors Adidas, French media reported. 'I feel qualified for the French team, where I played and spent practically 12, 13, 14 years as a player. Of course it's a dream. I can't wait,' said Zidane, a former captain of Les Bleus and the scorer of two goals as they won the 1998 World Cup final. His midfield partner in that match and in France's Euro 200 triumph, was Didier Deschamps who has been in charge of the French side since 2012. Deschamps led Les Bleus to the World Cup in 2018 but has announced that he will end his reign after the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. As a coach Zidane took Real to three Champions League triumphs and two Liga titles but has not taken a coaching job since ending his second spell at Real in 2021.
