INS Satpura arrives Singapore to take part in bilateral maritime exercise
The Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX-25) marks yet another chapter in the 'strong and enduring" maritime partnership between the Indian Navy and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), it said.
'The exercise, a hallmark of the deep-rooted naval cooperation between the two nations, commenced with the harbour phase, which includes subject matter expert exchanges (SMEEs), professional interactions, and operational-level discussions," the ministry said in a statement.
These engagements are designed to share best practices, align doctrines, and conduct deck familiarisation visits onboard participating ships — RSN Vigilant and RSN Supreme.
'These activities reaffirm the growing professional synergy and strategic trust between the two navies, in line with India's vision of 'MAHASAGAR' and the Act East Policy, which emphasises robust engagement with neighbouring countries," the Indian defence ministry said.
Day 2 of SIMBEX-25 features an official opening ceremony, followed by a pre-sail conference. During this conference, the participating naval contingents will hold discussions on the upcoming sea phase of the exercise.
The sea phase of SIMBEX-25 — the cornerstone of the bilateral maritime engagement — will witness the execution of a comprehensive array of advanced naval operations, it said.
These include air defence exercises, cross-deck helicopter operations, precision targeting with surface and aerial platforms, complex manoeuvring drills, and Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations, the statement said.
'These exercises aim to enhance interoperability and operational coordination, while reinforcing a shared commitment to maritime security and regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.
'SIMBEX continues to be a testament to the strong naval ties between India and Singapore, showcasing mutual respect, professionalism and a common vision for a secure and rules-based maritime order," it said. PTI KND RT RT

'The international community can draw its own conclusions on the irresponsibility inherent in such remarks, which also reinforce the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups. It is also regrettable that these remarks should have been made from the soil of a friendly third country," the Indian government said in a statement on August 11. Munir was earlier hosted by the US President Donald Trump at the White House in June in an unprecedented move, gesture not extended so far to the Pakistani President or Prime Minister. He was again in the US now on a second trip for the farewell of United States Central Command Commander (CENTCOM) General Michael Kurilla. A recent look at international practices shows that MPs in India enjoy some of the largest and best-equipped residences among their peers. In Delhi, newly built flats for MPs in the prestigious Lutyens Zone measure about 5,000 square feet. Each unit has ten rooms, including five bedrooms, multiple toilets, a kitchen, and modern amenities such as air-conditioning. These flats are provided without MPs having to arrange their own housing in the national capital. However, Japan offers a stark contrast. Members of the National Diet in Tokyo's Akasaka area live in 28-storey apartment complexes, where each flat is about 82 square metres (roughly 882 square feet) with three rooms – a living room, dining space, and kitchen. The rent, which MPs pay themselves, was increased three years ago from 92,000 yen to 124,652 yen per month. Pakistan provides two-bedroom family suites to MPs in Islamabad, sized between 1,600 and 4,000 square feet. These are furnished with beds, sofas, tables, and basic facilities such as electricity and water. A nominal rent is charged under government rules. Some countries do not provide any housing at all. In the United States, South Korea, Nepal, and China, MPs are given allowances instead. In the US, lawmakers arrange their own housing in Washington DC, while in South Korea and Nepal, MPs generally reside in their constituencies and travel to the capital when required. In China, members of the National People's Congress spend most of their time in their home provinces, with government housing reserved only for the top leadership. The United Kingdom, too, does not maintain permanent government housing for MPs. Instead, those whose primary residence is outside London can rent accommodation in the capital, with the cost reimbursed under an 'accommodation budget". Some MPs are provided small studio apartments or 1-2 bedroom flats near Parliament in special circumstances, usually for security or health reasons, but these average just 350-500 square feet. In parts of Europe, arrangements differ again. Swedish MPs whose homes are outside Stockholm are provided a second residence in the city free of rent, or given a monthly housing allowance of €639 if they choose private accommodation.
