Israel Finance Minister calls for building a Jewish temple
In speech addressing crowds at a Jerusalem Day rally on Monday, which celebrates Israel's occupation of the old city of Jerusalem, Smotrich also called for 'complete redemption' and reconstruction of 'the Temple here,' referring to Al-Aqsa Mosque, which settlers had raided earlier.
'We are conquering the Land of Israel, liberating Gaza, settling Gaza and defeating the enemy,' Smotrich said to crowds that had chanted 'death to Arabs' as they marched through Jerusalem's Old City and attacked Palestinians.
'With God's help, we will expand Israel's borders, bring about complete redemption, and rebuild the Temple here,' he said.
Smotrich also reiterated his calls for Jewish settlement in Gaza, declaring that 'Israel is not afraid of the word occupation'.
'Some people are afraid of victory. We are not afraid of victory,' he said. 'Lets give strength to our brave and heroic fighters'.

'Are we afraid of victory? Are we afraid of the word occupation?' Smotrich demanded, to which the crowd responded with a resounding 'no'.
Smotrich has long advocated for extending Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and Gaza, and across the Middle East as part of his vision of a 'Greater Israel'.
Earlier this month, Smotrich vowed that 'Gaza will be entirely destroyed' and its Palestinian population will 'leave in great numbers to third countries'.
He also declared that Israel would 'apply sovereignty' in the occupied West Bank before the next Israeli general elections in October 2026.

'Within a few months, we will be able to declare that we have won. Gaza will be totally destroyed,' Smotrich said. 'In another six months, Hamas won't exist as a functioning entity.'

An official statement from Netanyahu's office said the prime minister 'held a closed security consultation that lasted about three hours, during which the Chief of Staff presented various options for continuing the military campaign in Gaza.' Kan News public broadcaster subsequently stated 'The prime minister's direction is to go and conquer the Gaza Strip.' However, Zamir is said to have pushed back, saying 'You are entering a trap in Gaza,' Kan reported. The conquest plan would see IDF ground forces move into new areas where the hostages are believed held, but the army chief of staff argued that this 'will significantly endanger their lives and cause the army to burn out.' The IDF has been fighting hard for nearly two years, and there have been hundreds of casualties – in the wake of the Hamas/PIJ terror attacks of Oct.7, 2023. Despite likely tens of thousands of Hamas militants having been killed over the course of the war, they have still proven effective in small ambushes against IDF forces, emerging from the tunnels to strike. Netanyahu reportedly shot back during the meeting that 'until now, the IDF's modus operandi has not led to a deal for hostages and their release, therefore, a different action is required. Hamas will understand that it has no immunity and will reach a deal.' Reports say that Zamir is opting for a strategy of encirclement and targeted raids, largely in continuation of what's happening now, in order to continue grinding down and exhausting the remaining Hamas fighters. Zamir is reportedly ready to carry out whatever the cabinet ultimately decides, and a follow-up Thursday cabinet meeting will feature a vote.

Israel army directed to execute govt orders on Gaza
The Israeli military will have to execute any government decisions on Gaza, the defence minister said yesterday after reported disagreements over the prospect of a full occupation of the Palestinian territory. Signs of a rift over strategy emerged as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepared to announce a new phase in the war, after he said Israel must "complete" the defeat of Hamas in order to secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza. The Israeli press, citing officials speaking on condition of anonymity, has predicted an escalation of operations, including in densely populated areas where hostages are believed to be held, such as Gaza City and refugee camps. The reports also said Netanyahu and his cabinet would order a full military occupation of Gaza, sparking dissension from the army's Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir. On Tuesday, Netanyahu held a restricted three-hour meeting with security chiefs to discuss options for the continuation of the war, his office said in a statement. At the meeting, Zamir reportedly warned that a full occupation would be like "walking into a trap," according to public broadcaster KAN. The army chief suggested alternatives to a full occupation, such as an encirclement of specific areas where Hamas is believed to be hunkering down, according to the Channel 12 broadcaster. But Defence Minister Israel Katz hit back with a clear message. "It is the right and duty of the Chief of Staff to express his position in the appropriate forums," he wrote on X. "But once decisions are made by the political echelon, the IDF will execute them with determination and professionalism... until the objectives of the war are achieved," he added, using an acronym for the Israeli military. Trump says 'up to Israel' Netanyahu is expected to convene the security cabinet on Thursday to finalise a decision on the expansion of the offensive, local media reported. US President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday he was not aware of reported plans to occupy the entire Gaza Strip, but said that such a decision would be "up to Israel". At war with Hamas since the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement on Israel on October 7, 2023, the Israeli government is under growing pressure to bring the conflict to an end. Israelis are increasingly alarmed about the fate of the 49 hostages still held in Gaza, of whom 20 are believed to be alive. The UN Security Council held a special session on Tuesday to discuss Israeli hostages in Gaza, as the country seeks to keep the issue on top of the global agenda. On Tuesday, Trump described a recent video released by Hamas of emaciated Israeli hostage Evyatar David purportedly digging his own grave as "horrible." Israeli airline's Paris offices daubed with red paint, slogans
AFP | Red paint and slogans were daubed at the entry to the offices of national Israeli airline El Al in Paris, with Israel Thursday urging French authorities to take action over the "barbaric act". Anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian slogans and inscriptions, including "Free Palestine" and "El Al Genocide Airline", were written on the entrance which was also daubed with red paint as well as the pavement overnight Wednesday to Thursday. "I condemn the barbaric and violent act against El Al and expect the law enforcement authorities in France to locate the criminals and take strong action against them," Israel's Transport Minister Miri Regev wrote on X. She said the act was the result of announcements by President Emmanuel Macron that "make gifts to" Palestinian militant group Hamas, in apparent reference to his announcement last month that France plans to recognise a Palestinian state. Israel's ambassador to France Joshua Zarka visited the scene, describing the vandalism as an "act of terrorism" that aims to "terrorise El Al employees, terrorise Israeli citizens, scare them and try to make them feel that they are not welcome." According to El Al, quoted by Israeli TV channel N12, "the incident occurred while the building was empty and there was no danger to the company's employees." "El Al proudly displays the Israeli flag on the tail of its aircraft and condemns all forms of violence, particularly those based on anti-Semitism," the national airline added. In early June, several Jewish sites in Paris were sprayed with green paint. Three Serbs were charged and placed under arrest and are suspected by investigators of acting to serve the interests of a foreign power, possibly Russia. The October 2023 by Hamas attack on Israel that sparked the war between Israel and Hamas resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, the majority of them civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Out of 251 hostages seized during Hamas's attack, 49 are still held in Gaza, including 27 the Israeli military says are dead. The Israeli offensive has killed at least 61,158 people in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to figures from the Gaza health ministry which are considered reliable by the United Nations.
