Cody Rhodes Shuts Down Talk Of Major WWE Career Change
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. For years, the question of a potential heel turn has followed Cody Rhodes, but "The American Nightmare" has now given his most definitive answer yet on the topic. On his podcast, the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion claimed that he has "no interest" in turning to the dark side. The comments appear to put an end, at least for now, to one of the most persistent fan debates in modern wrestling. Rhodes made the remarks on the latest episode of his "What Do You Wanna Talk About?" podcast. Cody Rhodes: "I Don't Know If My Heart Would Be In It" While discussing the topic of character alignment with Becky Lynch, Rhodes explained that he does not share her enthusiasm for playing a villain. He stated that he simply has no desire to be a "bad guy." "I have the complete opposite outlook," Rhodes said. "On all these metrics, on all of these measurables, I just don't have any interest in being a bad guy. I just don't know if I could do it. I don't know if my heart would be in it." Cody Rhodes' History of Conflicting Comments This new, definitive statement is the latest chapter in a long and often confusing public conversation about a potential heel turn. Rhodes himself has fueled the speculation with his own contradictory comments over the past year. He had previously given a "one to three years" timeline for a turn, only to walk those comments back in a later interview. PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - APRIL 06: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reacts during a tag team fight with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth "Freakin" Rollins during Night One of WrestleMania 40 at Lincoln Financial Field... PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - APRIL 06: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reacts during a tag team fight with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth "Freakin" Rollins during Night One of WrestleMania 40 at Lincoln Financial Field on April 06, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More The constant discussion is rooted in his final year in AEW, where a large portion of the audience turned on him and began booing him, despite his babyface role. His steadfast refusal to turn heel at that time became a major meta-storyline, and the "what if" has followed him ever since. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match The Top Babyface Reigns Cody Rhodes' new comments come just weeks after he had his biggest babyface moment since returning to WWE. At SummerSlam, he defeated the vicious heel John Cena in a Street Fight to win back the Undisputed WWE Championship. The victory solidified his status as the undisputed top hero in the entire company. This new statement, combined with recent reports that WWE has no plans to turn him heel, suggests that Rhodes is fully embracing his role as the fan-favorite champion. While his "American Nightmare" persona has its roots as a heel character from his time in NJPW, it appears that for the foreseeable future, he will continue to be a champion for the people.
