NASCAR will return to Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, within the next couple of weeks during Independence Day weekend. The NASCAR Cup Series will race at the 1.5-mile oval on Sunday, July 5, 2026, after a seven-year absence from the track, followed by the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series on Saturday, July 4.
Things are now getting underway with the ARCA Menards Series on Friday, July 3.
From a broad perspective, the revival signals a significant strategic shift, with NASCAR swapping out its downtown Chicago street race that it tried a year ago for a Joliet return that's meant to revive mid-season excitement and serve as a nod to the sport's historic footprint in suburbs outside Chicago.
Why NASCAR is returning to Chicagoland Speedway
Having sat dormant during the pandemic and well beyond due to new priorities towards urban street racing in Chicago, Chicagoland Speedway last morphed into a NASCAR Cup event in 2019.
NASCAR, however, is welcoming a return to its more oval-centric traditions in 2026: a model that aligns better with an efficient business operation, consumer demand, and logistical convenience.
An anticipated weekend of racing will find Chicagoland at the center of the action: the ARCA on July 3, the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series on July 4, and the Cup Series headlining on July 5, a perfect marquee weekend for race fans celebrating the birth of their Nation.

While NASCAR executives assert that intermediate-length oval tracks. The 1.5-mile Joliet facility is a prime example, still providing some of the best racing on the schedule, the Cup Series still has the potential to get racing fans throughout the greater Chicagoland area juiced up all over again.

What this means for the future of NASCAR events in Chicago
The 2026 shift to Chicagoland is part of a larger realignment of NASCAR's schedule. Organizers cited logistical as well as resident feedback factors and other needs for operational flexibility behind the decision to pause the Chicago Street Race, which was scheduled to run from 2023 through 2025.
After renegotiations with city officials, the street event will return to downtown Chicago in 2027.
At the same time, NASCAR makes another nod toward its evolving footprint and willingness to experiment with new, non-traditional racing venues with a new street-course event in San Diego at Naval Base Coronado joining the 2026 schedule.

Nikita Tszyu, Michael Zerafa register crushing wins ahead of potential blockbuster showdown

Rising star Nikita Tszyu and seasoned pro Michael Zerafa lived up to expectations on Wednesday night, each securing dominant victories in their respective bouts. The emphatic performances by the Australian pair have only intensified calls for a blockbuster showdown between them, making it increasingly clear that a clash in the near future is inevitable. Tszyu (11-0, 9 KOs) put on a commanding display, at the ICC Sydney Theatre , against previously unbeaten Macedonian challenger Lulzim Ismaili. After patiently sizing him up early, Tszyu unleashed a series of punishing body shots that dropped Ismaili to the canvas, leaving him clutching his stomach in pain. Though Ismaili survived to hear the end of the opening round, he was unable to answer the bell for the second, prompting the referee to stop the fight and awarding Tszyu the WBO Inter-Continental Super Welterweight title . — ropeadopepod (@ropeadopepod) by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 5 Books Warren Buffett Recommends You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The son of Kostya and younger brother of Tim stepped back into the ring for the first time in nearly a year after undergoing multiple surgeries on his left hand. His last outing came in August 2024, when he stopped Koen Mazoudier in one of the year's most thrilling bouts. While there were questions within his camp about how he would respond against Ismaili, Tszyu erased any doubts, showing neither rust nor hesitation in the single round of action it took to finish the job. Just 25 minutes before Tszyu's statement win, Zerafa (33-5, 21 KOs) delivered a demolition of his own. The outspoken Melbourne fighter dismantled American Mikey Dahlman in under two minutes to claim the WBO Inter-Continental Middleweight title, reminding critics that he's more than just a headline-making trash talker. Live Events Dahlman came into the fight with only one defeat in his previous 19 outings but showed little resistance, struggling to land anything significant before being completely outclassed. While the bout was heavily one-sided, Zerafa still deserves credit for displaying crisp fundamentals and refined technique in the short time it took him to secure the victory. According to ESPN, another name being mentioned as a possible opponent for Tszyu in Australia is Brock Jarvis , who has recently climbed five weight divisions in pursuit of a shot at the undefeated son of the Hall of Famer. Trained by Aussie legend Jeff Fenech, Jarvis rebounded from his March loss to American Keith Thurman with an impressive fourth-round stoppage of rising New Zealand prospect Sam Beck on Wednesday night. All in all, Tszyu's next bout promises to be a true test of his credentials. Whether the challenge comes from Zerafa or Jarvis remains to be seen, but either matchup would mark a significant step forward in his career.

'Try to fix the Republican Party': JD Vance asks Musk to stand by GoP; amid buzz on Tesla CEO's new political outfit

US vice president JD Vance (AP) US vice president JD Vance on Wednesday cautioned Elon Musk against pursuing a third political party after reports that the Tesla CEO is shelving plans to launch the 'America Party' to focus on his companies. Vance argued Musk would have greater influence by working within the Republican Party alongside president Donald Trump 's MAGA movement. "My advice to Elon would be to try to fix the Republican Party. Try to push it in your own way. Disagree with me all you want, disagree with the president of the United States, but don't pretend that you can make a big difference with a third party," Vance said in an exclusive interview on The Ingraham Angle of Fox News. "I think Elon would make a much bigger difference if he stayed loyal to President Trump's Republican Party, and if he had disagreements, express those disagreements from the inside as opposed from the outside,' he added. Musk had announced in July on his social media platform X that the new party would be formed to give people their 'freedom' back in response to the two-party system. The billionaire entrepreneur split with Trump earlier in 2025 over the president's 'Big, Beautiful Bill,' which Musk argued would add trillions to the US national debt and undermine the department of government efficiency, where he had served in an advisory role. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo According to The Wall Street Journal, Musk has not ruled out reviving the idea of a new party. 'I do think that it would be a huge mistake for Elon to go forward with a third party, and my argument to him is whether you like it or not, you are now perceived by the far left as on the side of the American right,' Vance told Fox News. 'You believe in law and order, you believe in closed borders, you believe in economic growth and prosperity, you believe in making things in the United States of America. The idea that Elon is ever going to go back to being sort of in the middle, where Democrats and Republicans both like him, that's just not going to happen. He is perceived as being on the American right.' Amid speculation that Musk could financially back him, Vance also denied speaking to the billionaire or other donors about a possible 2028 presidential run.

Curious case of Sanju Samson: The unsettled star of Indian cricket

Sanju Samson New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir 's five-year-old tweet on Sanju Samson is doing the rounds since the time India's Asia Cup squad has been announced on Tuesday. Gambhir had tipped Sanju as the best young batter in Indian cricket. Gambhir wrote on X: "Sanju Samson is not just the best wicketkeeper-batsman in India but the best young batsman in India! Anyone up for debate?" The only debate is what will happen to Sanju Samson, who under Gambhir was finally getting the long rope, under this team management -- which he was promised by Gautam Gambhir's predecessors, Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri, but never got the promised run. For ten years, since his debut in Harare, Sanju has been the brightest cricketing hope, but he still remains the most unfulfilled talent. In the IPL, every time Sanju Samson stepped out to bat, former India coach Ravi Shastri used to go gung-ho over his batting and had already drawn comparisons with Rohit Sharma , both men labelled as possessing that rare 'lazy elegance.' Ravi Shastri also hailed him as 'calm, composed' and compared his qualities with former India captain MS Dhoni. Yet, paradoxically, during Shastri's tenure, Samson hardly got a proper run. India Asia Cup squad press conference: What Ajit Agarkar, Surya said on shocking calls The gap between his first and second T20I appearances was a staggering four years and five months -- debuting in July 2015 against Zimbabwe, only to play his second T20I in December 2019 against Bangladesh. The same story unfolded under Rahul Dravid, the man who had first brought Samson into the Rajasthan Royals set-up and admired his talent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2021 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo Samson first met Rahul Dravid in 2012. It took Dravid, then captain of Rajasthan Royals, two days to offer him an IPL contract. "I started playing in the nets and was hitting sixes off every ball. Rahul sir was excited, saying, 'Shot, Sanju!' After two days of trial, he just came up to me and said, 'Would you like to play for my team, Sanju?' And I was like, 'Just tell me the date, I will come running. I'll even sponsor my own flight,'" Samson had shared with Ravichandran Ashwin . (PTI Photo/Manvender Vashist Lav) When Dravid became India's coach, many thought Samson would finally be given the backing he had long waited for. Instead, history repeated itself: flashes of chances, but never the security of belonging. In the 2024 T20 World Cup final, Sanju was all set to play. But minutes before the toss, captain Rohit Sharma had a change of heart and picked Shivam Dube. To Rohit's credit, he spent 15 minutes trying to explain to Sanju why he missed out. Sanju was all smiles as he was finally given a reason why he was not selected. "Before the final, you have changed your decision. You spent 10 minutes with the player that is not playing just before the toss. He gave me 10 minutes before the toss. If I were in their place, I would be thinking about the players who are playing or my batting. I will explain to Sanju later; that is what normally you think. At that point, he thought 'I have to explain to Sanju why I took that decision.' At that point, he won a place in my heart that will stay for a lifetime," Samson had told journalist Vimal Kumar during a chat. Then came Gautam Gambhir, a self-confessed fan of the Kerala batter, who gave Samson role clarity. Perhaps, this was his last shred of rope; perhaps had he failed, he could have been thrust into eternal wilderness. Coach Gautam Gambhir watch as Sanju Samson play a shot during Practice session of Team India for T20 International Cricket match against Team Bangladesh which will be played on 06 oct24, at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. When Gambhir eventually took charge, one of his first big moves was to back Samson at the very top of the order. He had recently spoken about a Duleep Trophy game in Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh, when Suryakumar Yadav assured him he would open in all seven matches of the upcoming series. For Samson, even that small assurance was precious because he knew how rarely he had been backed for a proper stretch of games. Around the same time, on a forgettable Sri Lanka tour, Samson made back-to-back ducks. He thought he was running out of chances until Gambhir stepped in with a sentence that has stayed with him forever: 'I'll remove you from the team only if you score 21 ducks.' That trust bore fruit. In 2024, Samson unleashed his best season in India colours with three T20I hundreds, including consecutive hundreds — a record no Indian has matched in a single calendar year. Suddenly, all the years of waiting seemed worth it. Sanju or Jitesh? Now, with the Asia Cup squad announced, Sanju Samson's place in the XI looks grim. Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two wicketkeepers named in India's Asia Cup squad, but they bring very different skill sets. Samson has been India's first-choice keeper over the past year and has largely opened the batting. Jitesh, on the other hand, has played just nine T20Is, with his last appearance coming in January 2024. In IPL 2025, Jitesh struck at 176.35 and played crucial cameos for RCB, down the order, which helped them win their first IPL trophy. With such performances, Jitesh is certainly breathing down Samson's neck. Can Sanju bat at No. 3? The return of Shubman Gill as vice-captain has reshaped the team balance. Gill will almost certainly open with Abhishek Sharma, which leaves Samson looking in from the outside. Aakash Chopra put it bluntly that Samson's fate is sealed and he will not feature in the starting line-up. R Ashwin echoed the sentiment, saying the vice-captaincy makes Gill undroppable and pushes Samson either at No 3 or at the bench. Although Samson can bat at No. 3, he has scored most of his IPL runs in that slot, second only to Suresh Raina in terms of overall runs at No. 3. His record there is strong, with an average of 38 at a strike rate of 143 in the IPL. But fitting him in at three would mean dropping Tilak Varma, who has also impressed in limited chances. Dropping Tilak would also break a left-hand/right-hand balance India have carefully built in their middle order. What is next for Sanju? On Sanju's future, chief selector Ajit Agarkar tried to soften the debate by saying the final call rests with the captain and coach once the team reaches Dubai. But the order in which names were read, the vice-captaincy given to Gill, and the praise showered on Jitesh by Suryakumar Yadav have already given away the direction. Poll Should Sanju Samson be included in the starting XI for the Asia Cup? Yes, he deserves a chance. No, Jitesh Sharma should play instead. Only if he bats at No. 3. I don't know, tough decision. For Samson, it feels like déjà vu. He is in the squad but not quite in the XI. His story is not about lack of talent, but about timing and circumstances. If India want solidity with Gill, they may sacrifice the intent of Samson. If they want to reward consistency, they may ask him to wait again. Either way, the conversation around him is no longer about whether he is good enough. It is about whether there is enough room for him in a team overflowing with batting talent. As the Asia Cup approaches, Sanju Samson finds himself once again on the fringes. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
