U.S. speed skater Jordan Stolz sweeps Calgary races to extend season unbeaten streak
American speed skating star Jordan Stolz has won the men's 500 metres at a World Cup in Calgary.
The 20-year-old has yet to lose a race this season in the 500, 1,000 and 1,500 metres.
He went 3-for-3 at the Olympic Oval. Stolz won the 500 in a time of 33.85 seconds.
The American will carry his unbeaten streak into the next World Cup in his home state in Milwaukee, Wis.
Laurent Dubreuil of Levis, Que., the 2022 Olympic silver medallist in the distance, placed fifth.
Femke Kok of the Netherlands won the women's 500 metres.

According to the criminal complaint, Retton smelled of alcohol and was slurring her words, and she failed a field sobriety test. Officers also reported observing a container of wine in the passenger seat. Retton was 16 when she became the first American female gymnast to win the all-around title at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. She also won two silver and two bronze medals to help bring gymnastics into the mainstream in the United States. In 2023, Retton's family disclosed she was recuperating from a rare form of pneumonia that landed her in intensive care. Doctors found her oxygen levels dangerously low. Her medical team considered putting her on a ventilator as her conditioned worsened. Retton went on oxygen treatment and, after weeks in the hospital, improved enough to be sent home. Zinchenko scores off the bench to help Ukraine defeat New Zealand at Canadian Shield
TORONTO – Substitute Oleksandr Zinchenko scored in the 75th minute to lift Ukraine to a 2-1 win over New Zealand on Tuesday at the Canadian Shield Tournament. The Arsenal fullback/midfielder had been on the pitch less than a minute when he acrobatically swept Oleksandr Martyniuk's cross past New Zealand goalkeeper Max Crocombe. Zinchenko, Ukraine's Footballer of the Year in 2019, joined Arsenal from Manchester City in July 2022 in a 30-million-pound ($55.4-million) transfer. The 28-year-old has been linked to a move to AC Milan in recent days. Oleksiy Hutsuliak also scored for Ukraine. Marko Stamenic replied for New Zealand in a game that saw tempers flare as the clock wound down. New Zealand, ranked 86th in the world, upset No. 41 Ivory Coast 1-0 on Saturday. No. 25 Ukraine lost 4-2 to No. 30 Canada. The Canadians faced Ivory Coast in the late game at BMO Field. Ukraine had more of the ball but failed to take advantage Tuesday. Chile loses at Bolivia and will miss third straight World Cup
Chile will miss its third straight World Cup after losing 2-0 at Bolivia on Tuesday to remain last in South America's 10-team round-robin competition. Bolivia kept its hopes alive for an inter-continental playoff spot in a bid to reach the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The top six teams in South American qualifying will secure direct berths in the World Cup. Defending champion Argentina has already qualified. Chile's golden generation won two Copa America titles — in 2015 and '16 — but is out of contention for next summer's expanded 48-team tournament. 'Sad, I am feeling bad.
