PM Anwar defends KL flat redevelopment, says it's about dignity, not ‘a Chinese agenda'
According to a report in Sinar Harian today, Anwar said that land status remains unchanged, including Malay Reserve Land and Malay Agricultural Settlement (MAS) land.
'I don't understand this kind of politics. Is the land Malay Reserve Land? It remains so. Is the land Malay Agricultural Settlement (MAS) land? Yes, it remains so,' he was quoted as saying during the launch of the Warisan Kuala Lumpur (KL) initiative at DBKL tower.
'But old flats like Sri Perlis, which are dilapidated, overcrowded, and lack facilities — we want to fix them, so why is this being politicised?
'We're not trying to take Malay land — we want to replace one-bedroom homes with three-bedroom ones. And even that becomes an issue, supposedly land seizure, a Chinese agenda. This is not about race, this is about the people's dignity,' he reportedly added.
Anwar reportedly said that it was disheartening that some families, including those with children, are still living in cramped one-room flats built over 40 years ago.
He reportedly called for immediate redevelopment with better housing near the same location, while ensuring that the people's needs come before developer interests.
He also reportedly cited examples of housing projects in Penang approved in under 50 days, proving that rapid and efficient development is possible.

Pahang MB slams 'dangerous' racial narrative
KUANTAN: Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has urged the public to reject outright the "perception games", slander, and false accusations propagated by certain quarters with the deliberate intent of sowing division. He said such actions not only eroded public trust but also bred disunity, fostered hostility, and threatened the stability of both the state and the nation. "For example, a recent perception game suggested that Pahang's administration should be returned to the Malays and Muslims. I would like to ask, is the current administration led by someone who is not Malay and not Muslim? Am I not a Malay and not a Muslim? "Is the Pahang State Secretary (Datuk Nazri Abu Bakar), not a Malay and not a Muslim? Is Pahang a secular state that rejects Islam? This kind of narrative is extremely dangerous, as it not only undermines trust in the government but also inflames religious and racial sentiments, which will inevitably lead to division," he said in his winding-up speech at the state assembly in Wisma Sri Pahang today. Wan Rosdy also addressed the perception that the state government was not focused on administering Pahang. "Never mind… this is just the opinion of those who wish to see us operate like the governments of Kelantan and Terengganu. "But let me say this. Anwar: Cabinet to discuss separating attorney general, public prosecutor roles this month
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that a proposal to separate the roles of the Attorney General (AG) and the Public Prosecutor will be tabled to the Cabinet at the end of this month. He said the move is part of the ongoing legal reform agenda under the MADANI Government, implemented within just two and a half years in office. 'This separation (of the roles) has long been demanded, and the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) will table it to the Cabinet at the end of this month. So, we are seeing encouraging progress,' Anwar said during Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today. He said this in reply to Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu), who had asked which outdated laws were being reviewed or abolished in line with the government's reform agenda, and the timeline for their implementation. Anwar also highlighted that the MADANI Government has so far introduced 23 legal reforms, including two constitutional amendments — one involving citizenship, and the newly passed Parliament Services Act 2025. Among key reforms cited were amendments to the Evidence of Child Witness Act, the enactment of the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act 2023, the Abolition of Mandatory Death Penalty Act 2023, the Ombudsman Bill 2025, and the Cyber Crime Bill 2025. 'I must emphasise that this record over two and a half years has yet to be matched by any previous administration, including that of the Honourable Member (Rosol),' Anwar said pointedly. The Prime Minister said that five new acts were introduced and 34 acts amended in 2023; another five new acts were enacted and 57 acts amended in 2024; and four new acts have been passed, with six acts amended, along with two new bills and 11 other bills amended so far this year. On the subject of anti-party-hopping laws, Anwar said he had no objection to enhancing or updating the current legislation. He noted that he had previously proposed stronger anti-defection laws during his time as Opposition Leader, but those proposals were not incorporated into the Federal Constitution (Amendment) (No. 3) Act 2022, which currently bars MPs from switching parties. 'So while new proposals are welcome, let's not forget who previously blocked such efforts. It was those on that (formerly government) bloc,' Anwar said. — Bernama
