Odisha to distribute ‘Jaadu Pedi' to students in 45,000 primary schools
Ahead of the distribution programme, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday had a look into the learning materials in the kit. School and Mass Education secretary Shalini Pandit briefed the chief minister about the various materials available in the kit.
The chief minister expressed happiness upon seeing the materials in Jaadu Pedi and said the children can learn about the utility and usage of local materials through the toys and play materials provided in the kit. These toys will not only help children learn but also attract them towards education, he added.
The learning materials in the Jaadu Pedi have been developed and contextualised by each District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) for children in pre-school, Class-I and Class-II as per the New Education Policy-2020. Each kit costs approximately `20,000 and will be distributed to around 45,000 schools with a total expenditure of `90 crore.
This initiative aims to make foundational learning engaging and interactive. The kit comprises playbooks, toys, puzzles, posters, flash cards, story books and worksheets reflecting the local culture, social context and languages.
It is designed to generate curiosity among the children and accommodate the diverse needs of learners in the foundational stage, officials said.

'The collaboration blends academic learning with impactful community engagement,' Mr. Hussain said.

The director general of School Education Kanchan Verma, said the basic education department has ensured all the schools were equipped with activity-based kits (wonder box), learning corners, outdoor play material, child-friendly furniture and stationery. Also, special training has been provided to ECCE teachers, Shikshamitras and Anganwadi workers, so that children between 3 and 6 years can be made 'school-ready' and their nutrition can be taken care of, she added. Basic education minister Sandeep Singh said, 'Our government is giving top priority to elementary education. Through balvatika, we are paying special attention to the all-round development and nutrition of children, so that they can become empowered, self-confident and responsible citizens of the future.'

CBSE to set up its own community radio station
AI image NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will soon come up with a community radio station exclusively for its students, teachers and other stakeholders, according to officials. The proposal was approved in the recent Governing Body meeting of the board, where it was decided that the application for procuring a license be moved. "The proposal to set up a community radio station was approved by the board's Governing Body. It was decided that consultative meetings will be held in next six months with stakeholders and experts for preparing and processing application for community radio license detailed, " a senior CBSE official said. The board has also decided that financial implications be worked out, the official added. The CBSE already runs a podcast called Shiksha Vani which disseminates timely audio content for various subjects of grades 9-12 in a lucid and seamless manner. CBSE-Shiksha Vani is available on Play Store for Android phone users. Shiksha Vani has, so far, uploaded approximately 400 pieces of content in accordance with NCERT curriculum. "The modalities of the content which will be broadcast on the community radio station will be worked out once the license is procured," the official added. Community Radio is an important third tier in radio broadcasting, distinct from public service radio broadcasting and commercial radio. Community radio stations are low-power radio stations, which are meant to be set up and operated by local communities. It provides a platform to air voices among the local community, especially marginalised sections of society, on issues concerning health, nutrition, education, agriculture etc. Moreover, since the broadcast is in local languages and dialects, there is a possibility of more connect among people. According to official statistics, there are 540 commissioned community radio stations in India. These stations are operated by non-profit organisations like educational institutions, NGOs and societies. The Indian government has been actively promoting the growth of community radio, particularly in rural and remote areas, through various initiatives and schemes.
