JOPLIN, Mo. — Although the City of Joplin's birthday isn't until later this month, residents can't wait to celebrate 'The City that Jack Built'.
The Joplin Celebration Commission has a lot planned through 2026 — The Route 66 Centennial and USA 250, and two events scheduled for Joplin's 152nd birthday.
Two Years Ago: City of Joplin Celebrates 150 years
At 1:30 p.m., the Celebration Commission will showcase new storyboards for its legacy project — The Heritage Trail.
The Unrest will tell the story of tensions between mining camps of yore. There will also be a storyboard about John C. Cox, who established the City of Joplin. These will be unveiled at the end of the Cox Family Estate's driveway, at 618 E. Persimmon. This event is open to the public.
A special presentation will be held at the start of Monday's City Council meeting — focusing on Irish heritage, recognizing Joplin City Hall, and city birthdays of years past.
Speakers at Monday's presentation will include Dr. Chad Stebbins, who will speak about Irish heritage. Brad Belk will discuss the significance of remembering Joplin's founding, and Patrick Tuttle will discuss Joplin City Hall's important role in shaping the city's past and present.
The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in Joplin City Hall's Council Chambers, located on the 5th floor.

These are the most popular Irish baby names for boys and girls

Naming your baby is a big deal. Seriously. Once you've locked the title in, there's no going back. Unless you're Kylie Jenner, that is. Which means new parents or parents-to-be often spend ages going back and forth on potential ideas, trying to agree on the perfect name for the newest addition to their family. These days, picking a name isn't as simple as it was when your mum, gran, or great-gran were naming their kids, either. There's less pressure to pass down titles to keep them in the family, and more of a focus on creativity. From seasonal to traditional to vintage to geographical, it's also popular to give a nod to your heritage, too. With that being said, if you're looking for the perfect Irish baby name, we've got you. Whether popular in Ireland or traditionally Irish, we scoured the data provided by the Central Statistics Office to see which names, for both boys and girls, are big hitters right now. The list of most popular baby names in Ireland is currently a mix of names with English origins, Irish origins, and Latin origins, so we've also sought out some well-known and more unique Irish names for you to browse for inspiration too. Good luck! Some Irish names can be a challenge for people to pronounce if they're unfamiliar with Gaelic (and, as we all know, there's nothing worse than having somebody butcher your, or your child's, name). So, with that in mind, we asked our good pal Brooke Scullion, a bona fide Derry girl, to lend a hand with how to correctly say some traditional Irish names (which are also listed below). Titus Welliver To Star In ‘The Westies' MGM+ Series

EXCLUSIVE: Former Bosch star Titus Welliver is back on the cop beat as a lead opposite J.K. Simmons in The Westies, MGM+'s upcoming period crime drama series from co-creator, executive producer and showrunner Chris Brancato. Co-created by Brancato and Michael Panes, The Westies is set in the early 1980s when the construction of the Jacob Javitz Convention Center on the Westies' home turf in Hell's Kitchen promises a financial windfall for the Irish-American organized crime gang. Despite being outnumbered 50-to-1 by the Five Families of the Italian mafia, The Westies' legendary brutality and cunning have given them the leverage necessary to share the spoils through a fragile détente. But internal conflict between the brash younger generation and the old-school leadership threatens to set a match to this powder keg, which will sweep the Westies into the FBI's ever-deepening investigation into the Italian mafia.
