Kamala Harris' 60 Minutes Interview Receives Emmy Nomination
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has nominated 60 Minutes' interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris for a News & Documentary Emmy award or Outstanding Edited Interview.
That interview is also the subject of a defamation suit brought by President Donald Trump, who accused CBS News of 'deceitful' editing. Shari Redstone—who heads up the network's parent company, Paramount Global—is reportedly seeking to settle the suit ahead of Paramount's planned merger with Skydance Media.
On April 22, 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens exited the program citing a loss of journalistic independents. Correspondent Scott Pelley addressed his departure on-air last Sunday.
Overall, CBS News received 28 nominations for the 46th News & Documentary Emmys. The Eye Network also received two nods in the Outstanding Live News Program category for CBS Mornings and CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell. (O'Donnell has since stepped down from the anchor's chair, and a new format has been introduced.)
ABC News was also recognized in that category for its flagship morning and evening shows, Good Morning America and ABC World News Tonight with David Muir. The network received 30 nominations overall when combined with Hulu.
NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt and Top Story with Tom Llamas rounded out the Outstanding Live News Program nominees. Holt recently announced that he would be departing the anchor's chair on May 30, with Llamas taking over on June 2.
CNN was the big winner among the cable news networks with 33 nominations, including a pair of nods for Outstanding Breaking News Coverage for its reports on Hurricane Milton and South Korea declaring martial law.
Other news outlets to receive Emmy nods include NBC News (13), MSNBC (8), Scripps News (8), Telemundo (8), Univision/Vix (7), Al Jazeera (7), BBC News/BBC America (6), Vice News (4), Bloomberg (3), NewsNation (3), PBS (3), The Weather Channel (2), CNBC (1), ESPN (1).
Prime Video also earned a single nod for its first foray into news, Brian Williams' Election Night special. That newscast was nominated for its title sequence.
The 2025 News & Documentary Emmys ceremony will be held at the Palladium Times Square Theater in New York City. It will take place over two days, with the News Ceremony held on Wednesday, June 25, and the Documentary Ceremony on Thursday, June 26.

The 19th day of the rap mogul's sex trafficking trial resumed June 9 following his defense team's second request for a mistrial, according to NBC News reporters in the courtroom. Over the weekend, attorney Alexandra Shapiro filed a motion viewed by E! News, in which she argued that his ex Cassie Ventura and her friend Bryana Bongolan of lying about the latter being dangled from a 17th-floor balcony in 2016 by Combs. His defense team—whose first motion was denied by Judge Arun Subramanian May 28—accused the prosecution of 'misconduct' with the 'introduction of perjured testimony.' The prosecution will respond to the motion and the judge is set to respond June 10. As the jury awaits the decision, Combs' ex—who is going by 'Jane' during the trial and was identified as 'Victim-2' in the indictment—has returned to the witness box following an emotional testimony about alleged abuse in their relationship. 'My feeling of obligation really started to stem from the fact that my partner was paying my rent,' she told the jury June 6, alleging that if she objected to his sexual requests, 'He would just start saying things like 'If you want to break, that's fine. Do you need, like, three more months in the house? Because I'm not about to be paying for a woman's rent that I'm not even seeing.'' She said that Combs began paying the rent for her home in April 2023, two years into their relationship, and is still doing so after he allegedly proposed a 'love contract' the month before. 'Jane' broke down in tears during her testimony after recalling a 'hotel night' on her birthday, which she specifically requested not to do. 'I just sat there on the couch, got in position to have intercourse, so we could just get it over with,' she told jurors. 'I asked Sean for a condom. Sean was giving me this really bad look. US Justice Department reportedly shrinks foreign bribery investigation team
-- The team at the U.S. Justice Department responsible for investigating allegations of foreign bribery has significantly shrunk, according to a Reuters report on Monday. This comes as President Donald Trump's administration reassesses its enforcement of an anti-corruption law that has been in place for decades. The Department of Justice's Fraud Section, which is in charge of enforcing the anti-bribery law, has been reduced to around 15 prosecutors. This is a substantial decrease from the 32 prosecutors reported in January, as stated on the department's website, the report said. This reduction follows an executive order issued by President Trump in February. The order called for a temporary halt in the enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), a law enacted in 1977. The FCPA prohibits companies operating in the U.S. from bribing foreign officials and is considered a fundamental part of federal efforts to fight corruption. Could L.A. ICE Riots Stop the BET Awards? Here's All the Tea
As ICE and the U.S. National Guard continues to ravage the city of Los Angeles, one of the most anticipated events of the year could be in danger of getting shut down. The BET Awards is set to take place Monday (June 9), but many folks fear President Donald Trump's recent antics will spill over to the Black award show. What started as peaceful protests against Trump's unlawful immigration raids quickly took a violent turn after the president sent the National Guard to L.A. without the governor's approval. Over the weekend, the violence escalated resulting in destroyed property, fires and tear gas being thrown at civilians… And who wants to throw a party in the middle of a riot? Organizers for the annual BET Awards insist the ongoing violence will have no impact on the show. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson said, 'BET remains committed to the safety of our guests and staff. We are working closely with LAPD and monitoring the situation.' Despite organizers' confidence that the event will go on, many folks online noted just how insane this past weekend has been for the city. 'LA so crazy and random right now,' @NapKingColeP said on X. 'ICE raids, national guard, protesting, BET Awards weekend, and the gay pride parade.' @_itsmelimel added there's 'sooo much sh*t goin on in LA.' She continued, 'ICE protests are going on and ppl are outsideeee celebrating the BET Awards. I am overstimulated.' One TikToker said right now, Los Angeles is very 'dystopian.' @itsneyha added, 'L.A. is continuing to hustle and bustle with DOTY performances and celebrities all in town for the BET Awards while there are literally protests closing down the 101 [freeway].' Widespread violence has taken over the city, and it's going exactly to Trump's plan. The president is set on looking 'tough' as his nation-wide crackdown on immigration continues. He and Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom have previously come to blows over the state's known sanctuary cities– a city that limits cooperation with ICE and other federal immigration agencies– and now, their beef has reached a new level. Trump took to his favorite social media platform Truth Social on Monday to call for even more violence against protesters. 'Looking really bad in L.A. BRING IN THE TROOPS!!!' he said. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth came out echoing Trump's sentiments. He threatened, 'If violence continues, active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized — they are on high alert.' He added in a separate tweet 'The National Guard, and Marines if need be, stand with ICE.' Meanwhile, Gov. Newsom announced plans to sue the administration over the Guard deployment and state's rights, according to CBS News. As of now, the 2025 BET Awards will go on as scheduled starting at 8 p.m. ET Monday night.
