HK Star Louis Koo Said He Fell In Love With Penang & Prawn Mee After His First Visit
Many Hong Kong stars have shared their love for Malaysia, praising the locals and the food. Actor Louis Koo (古天乐) is one of those stars, saying he fell in love with Penang after his first visit.
The actor was recently in town to promote his new action thriller movie, 'Behind The Shadows (私家侦探)'. For the press tour, Louis and co-stars Chrissie Chau (周秀娜) and Phei Yong (培永) visited the Megamal Pinang and Gurney Plaza malls in Penang. While the 54-year-old has visited Malaysia many times, this recent trip was his first to the northwestern state. However, Louis said it was enough for him to fall in love with Penang.
Yesterday (10th June, Tuesday), the actor updated his Weibo account to talk about his recent trip to Penang. Louis expressed awe at local fans' support, writing, 'I went to Malaysia to promote the 'Behind The Shadows' movie and attended the premiere at the Mega Cineplex in Penang. There were a lot of fans for the movie, and the scene was very lively!'. However, what caught fans' attention was his sudden proclamation of love towards the state.
Louis wrote, 'Although this was my first time in Penang, I've fallen in love with this city'. The actor specifically mentions the local delicacy, prawn noodles, saying, 'The human touch and the delicious prawn noodles here are unforgettable.' He ends his post by promising to return soon, adding that he'll remember to take more photos with fans the next time he's in town. The Weibo post garnered the attention of local fans.
In the comments section, many Malaysians thanked the star for visiting the state, noting that most press tours are limited to Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley. Others also expressed joy over being able to meet Louis during the meet and greet, sharing photos of their interaction with the actor. Some also invited him to return to Penang, saying he should try other local delicacies the next time he visits.
We're glad that Louis had an unforgettable experience while he was there, and we hope to see him back in Malaysia soon. What are your thoughts on this?

Senior singing competition to promote entertainment tourism
Published on: Friday, June 13, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 13, 2025 By: Wu Vui Tek Text Size: Eliza (fifth, right) and Irene (centre) with the organising committee members. Kota Kinabalu: Over 100 people will descend here to compete in a senior citizen solo singing competition dubbed 'Voice in the Shadows – Our Concert'. 'Although this is a small event, I believe it has a big impact on the tourism industry,' said main organising chairperson Datuk Eliza Goh during a press conference at a hotel here. Advertisement She said such a competition could be developed into an entertainment tourism product to promote Sabah. 'We try to promote tourism in many ways, including through the music video of the songs, which will be released throughout Malaysia and can be viewed overseas,' said Eliza. The competition, which is open to Malaysians aged 40 and above, aims to foster friendship among those who love to sing from Sabah, Sarawak and the Peninsula, she said. 'We want to attract people from this 40-and-above age group to explore Sabah, as many still do not know much about the state,' she said. 'We want them to see that Sabah is actually quite modern now, and we have a lot of products to offer them,' she added. 'So as a Sabahan, I would like to do this as a contribution to the state in helping the tourism ministry attract more visitors.' She added that the competition also has the potential to boost domestic tourist arrivals, as the state cannot rely solely on international travellers. The competition will feature 50 singers, each bringing along supporters – about 50 in total – who are expected to take the opportunity to explore the state's tourist attractions. Co-organiser and Malaysian songbird Irene Tan said the event will be held on August 16 (preliminary round), followed by the finals on August 17 at the Putera Theatre Ballroom in Bukit Padang here. 'The competitors can select their own songs in one of three languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, or Hokkien,' she said. Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew is expected to officiate the concert. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Set for vibrant Tawau International Cultural Festival
Published on: Friday, June 13, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 13, 2025 Text Size: Nizam handing over memento to Musa. Kota Kinabalu: The 10th edition of the Tawau International Cultural Festival (FKAT), set for Aug 2, is expected to be more vibrant than ever. Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, said the festival – now in its 10th year – will be officiated by the Head of State Tun Musa Aman. 'Today, together with the Tawau Municipal Council President, I extended an official invitation to Tun Musa to launch the Tawau International Cultural Festival, which will be held on Aug 2, 2025 in Tawau. Advertisement 'As we all know, this festival is a legacy programme initiated by Tun Musa during his tenure as Chief Minister of Sabah, with the first edition held in 2011. 'Hence, the people of Tawau are truly honoured to invite Tun to personally officiate this year's festival, which will also be attended by the Chief Minister,' he said. Nizam said the annual festival continues to enjoy strong support, drawing around 50,000 visitors and contributing significantly to the local economy. 'Every year, the festival attracts no fewer than 50,000 visitors who come to Tawau to witness the highlight of the event – the cultural performances, including a parade showcasing various ethnicities and traditions. 'FKAT is a much-anticipated annual event, not only among Malaysians but also our neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines and other Asean nations, many of which participate in the cultural showcase. 'Sabah itself is home to diverse ethnic groups and cultures, and this festival provides an ideal platform to promote Tawau as a town where cultures from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Brunei meet. 'I've been informed that preparations for international participation are underway, and I'm confident that, as in previous years, we'll see participants not only from within Malaysia but also from Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, Thailand and occasionally even the Middle East. 'This certainly brings economic spillover benefits, promotes Tawau, and fosters unity among our multi-ethnic and multi-faith population under one nation, particularly in Tawau,' he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu, here, Thursday. In a related development, Tawau Municipal Council President Joseph Pang said the 10th FKAT will highlight themes of marriage, heroism and handicrafts. 'Our festival concept changes from year to year, and this time we will feature elements of marriage, heroism and traditional crafts. 'Approximately 30 ethnic groups will take part in the performances. We'll divide them into three categories – 10 ethnic groups will showcase marriage customs, 10 will highlight elements of heroism and the remaining 10 will focus on handicrafts,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
