Cow Sheds Turned Into Drug Transit Points, Owners Face Risks
General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid stated that although there has been no evidence of direct involvement by the owners, intelligence reports suggest that drugs are being smuggled alongside cattle or goats using the sheds' logistics network.
'We warn cattle shed owners near the border that they risk becoming middlemen — either willingly, due to the lure of huge profits, or through coercion by the syndicates.
'The syndicates are believed to be using sheds in areas such as Kampung Tualang and Simpangan in Tumpat, as well as Kampung Kubang Pak Itam, Jeram Perdah and Tok Deh in Pasir Mas,' he told Bernama recently.
Recently, the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, together with Kelantan police, seized 35.4 kilogrammes of 'pil kuda' (amphetamine pills) worth more than RM5 million in six raids conducted in Pasir Mas and Tumpat.
In one of the raids, 20 kilogrammes of drugs were found hidden in cow dung in a shed owned by a suspect in Banggol Chica, Pasir Mas.
Nik Ros Azhan said that in the first six months of this year, the GOF recorded 34 cases of livestock smuggling with 39 arrests, involving 818 animals — 274 cattle, 18 buffaloes and 526 sheep and goats.
In 2024, the GOF recorded 47 cases with 56 individuals arrested and 80,755 animals seized, comprising 80,025 chickens, 385 cows, 340 sheep and goats, and five buffaloes.
'GOF inspections at several illegal crossings also uncovered ropes tied to tree trunks used for securing cattle, along with traces of dung and hoofprints along the riverbanks.

Tanker Detained For Illegal Anchoring Off Tanjung Segenting
JOHOR BAHRU, July 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a Bridgetown-registered tanker for anchoring without permission in the waters of Tanjung Segenting, Batu Pahat early today. In a statement today, Batu Pahat Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Mohammad Zaini Zainal said the vessel was intercepted about 12.8 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Segenting after its captain failed to produce anchoring documents during an inspection at 12.30 am. The tanker, en route from Dubai to Vietnam, had earlier called at Port of Tanjung Bruas, Melaka to load 6,894 metric tonnes of tar. It was manned by 18 crew members, including the captain, all Indian nationals aged between 22 and 45, who possessed valid travel documents, he added.

Cops nab suspected robber of female food deliverers
JERTIH: Police have successfully solved three robbery cases that occurred in several villages in the Besut district after arresting a man in a raid in Kampung Gong Medang here on Monday (July 21). Besut district police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said the 32-year-old suspect, who was suspected of being involved in knife-wielding robberies since last month, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Besut police headquarters. "The suspect was arrested following three robberies involving three female victims, all of whom were food deliverers between June 24 and July 20. "The suspect's modus operandi was to identify female vendors who provided delivery service and would give addresses at unoccupied houses in remote areas in Kampung Gong Medang and Kampung Tembila," he told a press conference here on Sunday. Azamuddin said when the victim arrived at the given location, the suspect would approach the victim's car and brandish a knife before robbing the victim's jewellery. He added, the suspect managed to rob the jewellery belonging to the first and second victims, involving an estimated loss of RM30,000 and RM200 in cash. "However, the suspect failed to rob the third victim because the victim resisted, causing the victim to suffer injuries to both hands," he said. Azamuddin said following the arrest, the police also managed to seize two melted gold bars weighing 82.26gm believed to belong to two victims, a Honda City and two mobile phones belonging to the suspect. He added that checks found that the suspect had a criminal record related to robbery and tested negative for drugs. He said the suspect, who is married, was remanded to assist in the investigation under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code and Section 394 of the same act. - Bernama
