
Sunil Gupta appointed new CII Odisha chairman
BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha state council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Friday announced Sunil Gupta, chief operating officer (aluminium business) of Vedanta Limited, Jharsuguda as the chairman for 2025-26.
Suresha G, executive director (Odisha assets operation) of AM/NS India has been appointed as the vice chairman. Speaking on the occasion, Gupta emphasised CII's strategic focus on driving Odisha's growth across critical sectors including MSMEs, metals and mining, healthcare, agriculture and food processing.
'CII aims to catalyse inclusive economic progress across the state by expanding its operations, particularly in western Odisha, and partnering closely with the government.
We will also focus on strengthening the industrial ecosystem by promoting green building certification, enhancing export potential, and improving infrastructure,' he said.
Suresha reiterated the council's commitment to leveraging CII's Centres of Excellence to bring sectoral expertise to Odisha. 'We will support job creation and productivity by providing training on GST, GEM, TQM, and export documentation, while collaborating on skill development of youths,' he said.

Nation achieved excellent growth in NDA rule: Kishan
Vijayawada: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Tuesday said India achieved excellent growth and the country's reputation went up globally under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last 11 years. Kishan Reddy along with state party president Daggubati Purandeswari addressed the media in a private function on Tuesday marking the completion of 11 years of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule in the country. Recounting the country's achievements under Modi's rule, he said a golden era started for India in 2014 and the country became the fourth largest economy in the world surpassing Japan, from 10th place 11 years ago. The Union Minister further said 25 crore people came out of poverty and per capita income increased from Rs 68,572 in 2013-24 to Rs 1.14 lakh by the end of 2024-25. The BJP leader said the Central government has been distributing free rice to 81 crore people. According to him, path-breaking tax reforms like Goods & Services Tax (GST) helped the economy and increased revenues for the states. Referring to food policy and production of food grains, he said the Centre increased minimum support price (MSP) for many crops and a total amount of Rs 3.7 lakh crore was directly deposited into the bank accounts of 11 crore farmers since the launch of PM Kisan scheme. Kishan Reddy further said that PM Modi had given top priority for the defence sector and stated Operation Sindoor was conducted to destroy the terrorist camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. He also said the central government launched the 'Make in India' scheme to boost the manufacturing sector. Later, Kishan Reddy released a book on the achievements of the NDA rule in the last 11 years.

Union minister highlights decrease in poverty rates
1 2 3 4 Vijayawada: Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, the country witnessed equitable development across all sectors, leading to enhanced international standing and justice for all sections of society, said G Kishan Reddy, Union minister for coal and mines and Telangana BJP president. He was speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Tuesday. Reddy stated that India's economy became the world's fourth-largest, surpassing Japan, growing from a 2.1 trillion dollar economy in 2014 (10th position) to four trillion dollar, as confirmed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Govt aims to achieve a five trillion dollar economy soon. Furthermore, approximately 25 crore people were lifted out of poverty in the last nine years, with poverty rates decreasing from 29.2% in 2013-14 to 11.3% in 2022-23. Per capita income also saw a substantial 67% increase, rising from 68,572 in 2013-14 to 1,14,710 in 2024-25. The minister highlighted the successful implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) with the consensus of all states and the increase in states' share of tax revenue from 32% to 41-42%. In terms of social welfare, Reddy announced that the NDA govt provided free ration to 81 crore people and constructed four crore pukka houses for the poor. The Union minister for coal and mines also mentioned that the expansion of the Ayushman Bharat scheme that was to cover over 50 crore poor and middle-class citizens, was now extended to include all individuals above 75 years of age for free medical services. The number of AIIMS institutions grew from seven to 26.

Andhra Pradesh government constitutes task force to identify economic growth avenues
The Andhra Pradesh government has constituted a task force for industrial development in the State. In the G.O. 92 issued on Monday (June 9, 2025), Industries Secretary N. Yuvaraj said the government has constituted a Task Force on Economic Development for Swarna Andhra Pradesh@ 2047. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been appointed Chairman of the task force, while Tata Sons Executive Chairman N. Chandrasekaran will be the Co-Chairman. The task force members include CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee and Apollo Hospitals Vice-Chairperson Preetha Reddy, Suchitra Ella, Prof. Raj Reddy, Satish Reddy, GMR Group Chairman G.M. Rao, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, L&T Chairman Subrahmanyan, and TVS Motor Company Chairman Venu Srinivasan. The G.O. said that the primary purpose of the task force is to prepare a blueprint for the economic growth and development of Andhra Pradesh. It will hold meetings and interactions with senior industry leaders, government functionaries and subject experts of various sectors. It will deliberate and consolidate their inputs and arrive at the framework of the report accordingly. The task force will identify economic growth avenues for Andhra Pradesh, infrastructure gaps, assess capital requirements, and evaluate the existing policy framework. It will suggest policy and regulatory reforms needed, including the key policies, to transform the State into Swarna Andhra Pradesh by 2047. The task force will make an econometric projection of the GSDP by 2030 and 2047. It will also prepare a comprehensive report at the earliest. The CII will facilitate engagement with the subject experts. The Secretary, Industry and Commerce Department and CEO, APEDB are the nodal Points of Contact (PoC) for facilitating the meetings of the task force and interactions of the CII and task force Members with the respective Secretaries.
