Man charged after death of mother more than 30 years ago
Shona Stevens, 31, was discovered badly injured on a path in woodland near her home in Irvine, North Ayrshire, on November 10 1994.
She later died in hospital.
On Friday, Police Scotland announced that a 67-year-old had been arrested – with an update on Saturday revealing the man has now been charged.
It comes more than three decades after Ms Stevens was found injured on a footpath near to the rear of Alder Green in the Bourtreehill Park area of Irvine.
Senior investigation officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Gillies said: 'I would like to thank the members of the local community who assisted us in our inquiries.
'I am grateful for their information and input which greatly contributed to our investigation.'
The man is now expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday July 28.

2 Pennsylvania state troopers have been shot, governor says
Two state troopers were shot Thursday in a rural area of Pennsylvania, Gov. Josh Shapiro said at an event outside Philadelphia. Howell said authorities did not indicate whether there was more than one person dead when they asked the coroner's office to respond. Pennsylvania U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick said in a social media post that he was monitoring the developing situation. He also expressed empathy for the troopers who were shot. 'Dina and I are praying for our brave state troopers in Susquehanna County and monitoring the situation closely as more details emerge,' McCormick posted. U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan said on X that he was 'relieved to hear the troopers involved in today's incident in Thompson Township are expected to be in stable condition.'

Blaze breaks out at Scots flat block as firefighters warn public to stay away
Smoke was seen billowing into the sky. An investigation is underway after block of flats caught fire in a Scots street this evening. The building in Edinburgh went up in flames and police and firefighters are currently on the scene. The emergency services have cordoned off the area around the building and the public are being asked to stay away. Grey smoke was seen billowing into the sky as firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze. Officers from Police Scotland and firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service raced to the city's Craigentinny area earlier. The cordon was put in place on Loganlea Terrace. Officers are now assisting Scottish Fire and Rescue Service colleagues, Edinburgh Live reports. Locals reported seeing fire appliances and 'armed police' as smoke filled the street at around 7pm today, Thursday, August 7, 2025. While the exact nature of the incident is currently not known, Police Scotland confirmed that they are on the scene. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a fire at a block of flats on Loganlea Terrace, Edinburgh. "Officers are assisting Scottish Fire and Rescue Service colleagues and the public are advised to avoid the area at this time." The force also posted about the blaze on social media. A post was published on the Police Scotland Edinburgh Facebook page. It said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a fire at a block of flats on Loganlea Terrace, Edinburgh. Son of Brit arrested for ‘trying to drown daughter-in-law' in Florida pool ran him over with £80k Porsche two years ago
THE son of a Brit grandad accused of trying to drown his own daughter-in-law was jailed for running over his dad in 2023. Alex Gibbon, 34, pleaded guilty to assaulting his father with an £80,000 Porsche - just two years after he separated from Jasmine Wyld, 33. 2 Mark Gibbon, 62, is currently in jail after being charged with attempted murder after he allegedly forced Wyld's head underwater at a Florida resort pool as the pair argued over his will. Alex also pleaded guilty to harassing Wyld who is his ex-wife and the mother of his two children, according to the Times. The father and son have had several major issues in recent years with the car ramming chaos leaving Alex behind bars. He hit Mark while driving an £80,000 Porsche Cayenne in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, in May 2023. Alex was sentenced at Aylesbury crown court to a total of 25 months' imprisonment, 36 months' disqualification from driving, a five-year restraining order and a surcharge. The pair were also embroiled in a public row after Alex left his dad's business for an unknown reason, it has been reported. Gibbon and Wyld were on holiday together at the Solterra Resort in Devenport, near Disney World, Florida with the two children at the time of the alleged drowning. Gibbon and Wyld soon began arguing over the "stipulations of his will" around a pool, according to US police. The granddad then pushed Jasmine's head "under the water and held her down multiple times", according to the arrest affidavit. She told cops after the ordeal she "could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown," according to Polk's County Sheriff's Office. According to deputies, Jasmine was forced to "fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under". Her nine-year-old daughter then tried to help despite having no idea what was going on as she leapt into the water to her mother's defence She tried desperately to intervene, but Gibbon allegedly kept pushing her away. Jasmine spotted some two women in the distance and screamed at them to call 911. Gibbon is said to have stopped only when the sisters said they were calling the sheriff's office. He now faces one count of attempted murder and two counts of battery. When questioned, Gibbon allegedly admitted to pushing Jasmine underwater, but insisted he hadn't been trying to drown her. He claimed they had been drinking, began arguing and that she slapped him - which triggered the fight, reports Law & Crime. Gibbon is a lighting technician, who runs his own firm called MRG Lighting. He has worked on music videos for Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith, according to his website, as well as on film and TV sets.
