Stephen A. Smith accused of 'ruining' the NBA Draft as criticism mounts against $100m ESPN star
Dakich spent a long portion of his show on Friday airing his grievances with Smith, as the episode was titled ' WOKE ESPN & Stephen A. Smith RUINED The NBA Draft'.
Smith is a staple of ESPN's NBA coverage but has rarely spent time covering the athletes being drafted this week, with Dakich, a former college head coach, taking exception with the network's decision to put him on the broadcast.
'The best in the draft was always Fran Fraschilla, but Fran Fraschilla is a middle aged white guy. Fran Fraschilla doesn't yell, scream, rant and rave and act like an idiot,' Dakich said.
'He knows every foreign player. Seth Greenberg on radio knows every current player. But you can't do it because, well, you gotta have some brothers.'
'You got to have loud, you got to have stupid. And, oh, by the way, they're paying the dude 20million a year, which is the dumbest deal in the history of television. I still say this. Can anybody show me where First Take is the highest rated show in the morning like Smith claims? Can anybody show me where Stephen A. Smith makes the money back that he's being paid, anybody? You can't, there's no chance.'
Earlier this year, Smith signed a 5-year, $100million deal with the network, locking him in through 2030 to ESPN.
Dakich also called the ESPN star 'Screamin' A. Smith' for how he acts on national television. Dakich and Smith were co-workers at ESPN from 2012 until 2021, with Dakich helping with the network's college basketball coverage.
'ESPN needs to stop putting Stephen A Smith on every event he is not needed for the NBA draft you got staff that been following college ball all year far more knowledgeable,' one fan said on social media.
Smith has been under a microscope for all of 2025, first toying with a run to be the Democratic nominee for President in 2028.
Earlier this month, he came under fire for not paying attention during an NBA Finals Game, as he was caught playing on his phone while the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers squared off in front of him.
Smith responded on X: 'Yep! That's me. Who would've thought….I can multi-task. Especially during TIMEOUTS! Hope y'all are enjoying the NBA Finals. This is going 7 games now, peeps!'
Yet, the photographer named Kimberly hit back in an instant, shutting down Smith's claim that it was captured during a timeout.
'Fool, this was you during game play,' she replied along with another picture of him tackling the card game. 'There's videos. You started this new round during timeouts.'

Kanye West's former Malibu home back on sale as deal turns ugly
A Malibu home once owned by Kanye West is back on the market after a deal to sell the property to a developer collapsed in acrimony. The concrete structure was designed by the famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando for a Wall Street financier before West paid $57.3 million for it in 2021. The controversial rapper and fashion designer gutted the four-bedroom beachfront property before selling it last year for $21 million to the investor Bo Belmont. It seemed that the house had a buyer, with the developer Andrew Mazzella in contract to pay $30 million for a rare Ando work outside Japan. However, the agreement has collapsed as the owner and would-be buyer engage in a feud, with Belmont calling Mazzella a 'cowboy'. The house has been relisted for $34.9 million.

This is 40: Joe Flacco embraces new opportunity as Browns QB1
August 19 - If one thing is easier in the NFL as a 40-year-old quarterback, it's applying the mentality that every game could be your last. Joe Flacco has embraced another chance with the Cleveland Browns during training camp and preseason practices, as he welcomed another opportunity following an up-and-down 2024 with the Colts as Anthony Richardson's primary backup. So when the Browns made it official, naming Flacco the starter entering the 2025 season, Flacco knew better than to waste time celebrating. "I don't know if I was very emotional about it," Flacco said, "but listen, you don't take for granted opportunities in this league. Especially to get one at this point of my career is definitely special. But, like I said, it's pretty much business as usual and trying to get better." The Browns open the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7, a full 15 years after Flacco made his first career start against the same team as the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens. It will be his first opening week start since 2022 with the Jets. But Flacco said he feels "as good as ever" physically while the Browns held him out of preseason games to make sure that health status didn't change in a meaningless exhibition. With Deshaun Watson unlikely to play this season due to multiple Achilles surgeries, and Kenny Pickett sidelined for two weeks with a hamstring injury, there wasn't much of a competition for the job in Cleveland. Fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders threw two TDs in the preseason opener before going down with an oblique injury. Third-round pick Dillon Gabriel has shown upside but also experienced growing pains while assimilating to an NFL offense. "Joe performed really well in the joint practices, in the meeting room, you name it, in the walkthrough, just what he's able to bring to the football team," Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. "He's earned that role." General manager Andrew Berry said recently the Browns could consider keeping four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Stefanski was not ready to discuss the makeup of the full squad, or even the depth chart order behind Flacco. "As you make decisions like this, you talk to the guys and you let them in on your thought process," Stefanski said. "But all of them should consider themselves to get ready as a starter. That's how you have to handle being a backup in this league." --Field Level Media
