Cheshire drug dealer who fled to Spain ordered repay £40k
A drug dealing gang member who went on the run in Spain has been ordered to pay back more than £40,000 in illicit earnings.Dean Garforth had benefited by over £1,530,000 from his criminal lifestyle and was still in possession of £40,331 worth of assets, Cheshire Constabulary said.He was sentenced to 18 years and eight months in prison in 2024 after admitting conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs and transferring prohibited weapons and ammunition.The 32-year-old, who previously lived in Widnes, Cheshire, was arrested in Marbella in 2022 after being on the run for two years.
Garforth was called back to Chester Crown Court on 11 February where he was ordered to pay back the sum - which included 50% of the equity in his home and the value of his KTM off-road motorcycle.Det Ch Insp Nick Henderson, of the serious and organised crime unit, said the confiscation order sent "a strong message that Cheshire Constabulary takes the recovery of the proceeds of crime seriously"."It highlights the importance of asset recovery considerations, running throughout an investigation to maximise the opportunities to recover significant sums, derived from criminality," he said."The financial investigator in this case worked tirelessly to accomplish this result through a tenacious and diligent approach to the investigation, leaving no stone unturned in pursuit of asset recovery."

Garforth crash leaves six-month-old boy critically injured
A six-month-old boy is in a critical condition after he was injured in a crash between two cars in Leeds at the weekend. The baby was one of three people taken to hospital after a black Suzuki Alto and a grey Nissan Qashqai collided on Great North Road, Garforth, at about midday on Saturday. Anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened at the Aberford Road junction, was asked to contact police. A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "The collision is being investigated by the roads policing unit and anyone who witnessed it, or the movements of either vehicle prior to it, is asked to get in touch." Fiancée 'broken' following death of 'amazing dad' in motorbike crash
The fiancée of a man who was killed in a motorbike crash in Renfrewshire has said she is 'absolutely broken'. Emergency services were called to the crash, involving a KTM 790 Duke and a Land Rover Discovery on the B790 Houston Road, around 6.35pm on May 18. Jack Goodfellow, the rider of the motorbike, was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the Land Rover were uninjured. A fundraiser has since been launched to help the 30-year-old's fiancée and their children, as they deal with funeral costs. Christina described Jack, who was originally from Kilbirnie, as an 'amazing dad with a heart of gold' and said he will be missed by his loved ones. 'He was a great fiancé, we were together for seven years', she told STV News. 'He was also an amazing dad, he has two boys and three step-children who he adored more than life, and was always wanting to be outdoors on the bike, camping, fishing, doing anything he could, or helping people. 'He would have given his last to absolutely anyone if he could. 'A heart of gold, you genuinely won't find someone again like him in your lifetime. I'm absolutely broken he's left us. 'He has so many people around him who love him, he will be truly missed. 'Can I please ask for people to be extra careful on the road especially with bikers as they have little to no protection, especially against a car. Just drive a little slower on corners and bends.' Sergeant Ally Wright said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died. 'We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would like to thank all the motorists who remained at the scene to speak with officers. 'We would ask anyone who witnessed the collision and has yet to speak with police, to please come forward. Anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is also asked to contact us. Lucy Letby: Thirlwall Inquiry report publication pushed back
The final report from the public inquiry which examined how serial killer Lucy Letby was able to commit her crimes on a hospital neonatal unit will not be published until "early 2026".The former nurse, 35, is serving 15 whole-life orders after she was convicted at Manchester Crown Court of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others, with two attempts on one of her victims, between June 2015 and June Justice Thirlwall, the chair of the inquiry, had previously said she hoped her findings would be released in a statement issued on the Thirlwall Inquiry website said publication was now expected next year. Lady Thirlwall is expected to write to those criticised in the final report in September and the document is due to be completed by the end of November, according to the statement."The report will then undergo copy editing and typesetting, ahead of publication in early 2026," it added. Letby, from Hereford, lost two bids last year to challenge her convictions at the Court of Criminal Cases Review Commission, which investigates potential miscarriages of justice, is considering evidence presented on Letby's behalf from an international panel of medics who claim poor medical care and natural causes were the reasons for the babies for the families of Letby's victims have dismissed the panel's conclusions as "full of analytical holes" and "a rehash" of the defence case heard at Constabulary is continuing a review of deaths and non-fatal collapses of babies at the neonatal units of the Countess of Chester and Liverpool Women's Hospital during Letby's time as a nurse from 2012 to 2016.A separate probe by the force into corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter at the Countess of Chester Hospital also remains ongoing.
