Golden Harvest MegaBox latest cinema to close in Hong Kong, 4 left under chain
The Golden Harvest cinema at Megabox shopping centre will close this weekend due to 'the end of tenancy', making it the fifth venue that the cinema chain operator has shut down since April last year. The seven-theatre cinema, Golden Harvest MegaBox, located in the largest shopping centre in East Kowloon, will operate until this Sunday, the chain announced on Wednesday afternoon. The cinema in Kowloon Bay became the latest in a string of theatre closures in the city and the fifth so far this year. It is also the fifth to close since April 2024 under Golden Harvest, which now operates four remaining locations. 'We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We look forward to seeing you again at other GH cinemas,' the operator said on Facebook. The cinema will launch a series of farewell events to thank fans, including some blind-box tickets on Sunday, with the last show at its IMAX theatre to be sold for HK$40 (US$5). On the cinema's final day, the snack bar will offer special combos and merchandise for HK$40. Patrons holding any ticket from MegaBox cinema will receive a HK$10 discount on purchases over HK$65 at snack bars in other Golden Harvest cinemas between June 9 and June 30.

From blind date to first lady: Kim Hye-kyung's journey with South Korea's president
In August 1990, Lee Jae-myung, a newly qualified lawyer, made the bold decision to marry one of the five women he had blind dates with in a single month. With the same determination that would later characterise his political career, Lee arranged the five blind dates. Kim Hye-kyung, his third match, has remained by his side ever since, standing beside him during Wednesday's inauguration. South Korea's new first lady was born into a middle-class family in Seoul in 1966. She graduated from Sunhwa Arts High School and studied piano at Sookmyung Women's University. She met Lee while preparing to study in Austria, but seven months later, those plans changed when she married him, launching a turbulent 35-year political journey. When Lee entered politics in the early 2000s, Kim initially opposed the move. But as she saw him drive change in the community and build public support as mayor of Seongnam, her opposition gave way to support. During his first presidential bid in 2017, she accompanied him on regional campaign stops and even appeared alongside him on entertainment programmes.

Tally of Hong Kong concert ticket scams rises by 40% amid JJ Lin, Jay Chou shows
The number of reported concert ticket scams in Hong Kong has surged by 40 per cent week on week, according to police, with more than 70 cases from the second half of May related to Mandopop stars JJ Lin and Jay Chou's performances at Kai Tak Stadium. Police said on Wednesday that they received 114 reports of concert ticket scams for the week starting on May 24, compared with the 80 recorded for the week before. The amount of money involved in the cases over the two-week period was more than HK$1.6 million (US$203,900), the force added. In a post on the CyberDefender's social media page, the force said 37 people came forward over the past two weeks after falling victim to scams offering bogus tickets to Singaporean singer JJ Lin's concerts at the stadium on May 24 and 25. Another 23 people approached the force after attempting to buy tickets to Taiwanese performer Jay Chou's shows at the same venue, which will take place from June 27 to 29. Police have said scammers are taking advantage of the high demand and limited supply of tickets for popular concerts.
