Winnipeg police re-arrest man in child luring investigation
The Winnipeg Police Service re-arrested an Ontario man in connection to a counter exploitation and online luring investigation.
In April, CTV News reported Scott Christopher Alcorn, 49, of Red Lake, Ont., was charged with sexual assault; sexual interference; luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication; and transmit, make available, distribute or sell sexually explicit material to a person under 16 years old.
This arrest came after police learned a suspect began communicating with a teenage girl via private messaging on a social media platform beginning in December 2024. Police said in early April the suspect travelled to Winnipeg to meet the victim.
On April 11, 2025, investigators went to a Winnipeg home and found both the suspect and victim inside. Officers allege the suspect – who was arrested without incident -- sexually assaulted the victim in the residence.
The investigation continued with officers seizing electronic devices, leading to the discovery of sexually explicit material and communication with a second teenage girl between October 2024 and April 2025. The victim was identified, and an arrest warrant was issued.
On Aug. 14, 2025, investigators went to the Headingley Correctional Centre where they re-arrested Alcorn. He is facing additional offences including possession of child pornography.
None of the charges against Alcorn have been proven in court.

Witnesses sharing video of alleged arson online should contact investigators, Richmond RCMP say

A person of interest has been identified in the incident, which occurred around 1:20 a.m. Sunday at a store in the 8300 block of Granville Avenue, Richmond RCMP said in a news release Tuesday. An employee reported the fire, which had allegedly been deliberately set outside the building, according to police, who said no one was injured in the arson attempt. Firefighters extinguished the blaze. 'Our investigators are aware of footage circulating on social media,' said Cpl. Melissa Lui, in the news release. 'While we appreciate the concern being shown, we ask anyone who has video footage or information about this incident to contact police investigators directly. Sharing information with us will ensure it becomes part of the official investigation and helps hold those responsible accountable.' Those with information to share should call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 25-26618, police said. Tips can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

Suspected methamphetamine, cocaine seized in northern Ont. drug bust

The subsequent police investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine and crack cocaine. As a result, the woman has been charged with two counts of drug trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of failing to comply with a release order. The accused was remanded into custody after her arrest; her next bail hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19. SIU discontinues investigation into Woodstock arrest

The incident took place in the evening on April 25 when a man was arrested by Woodstock police near Dundas and Peel Streets. A struggle reportedly took place during the arrest, leading to the man being taken to the ground, physically restrained, and handcuffed. When in a jail cell, the SIU said the man complained his ribs were hurting. He was taken to hospital and diagnosed with a rib fracture. Deputy Director of the SIU, Stacey O'Brien said she was satisfied the investigation should be discontinued based on preliminary inquiries. After the man said he would give a statement to the SIU and making arrangements on more than one occasion for this to take place, efforts were unsuccessful. Due to no statement, there is insufficient evidence for an investigation to take place.
