'F1' tops North American box office with $55.6M

June 29 (UPI) -- Brad Pitt's racing movie, F1, is No. 1 in North America, earning $55.6 million in receipts this weekend, BoxOfficeMojo.com announced Sunday.
Coming in at No. 2 is How to Train Your Dragon with $19.4 million, followed by Elio at No. 3 with $10.7 million, M3GAN 2.0 at No. 4 with $10.2 million and 28 Days Later at No. 5 with $9.7 million.
Rounding out the top tier are Lilo & Stitch at No. 6 with $6.9 million, Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning at No. 7 with $4.2 million, Materialists at No. 8 with $3 million, Ballerina at No. 9 with $2.1 million and Karate Kid: Legends at No. 10 with $1 million.

‘M3GAN' director reveals if he intentionally tried to make a viral scene in the sequel
No one likes a try hard. Despite creating the viral dance scene for 'M3GAN,' director Gerard Johnstone exclusively told The Post that he didn't try to replicate that when making the new sequel. 'The point of the first movie was to kind of suggest to the world maybe we shouldn't be on TikTok and Instagram all the time, and maybe we should spend more time with our children,' Johnstone explained. 'So the fact that it blew up on Instagram was really fun, but it was kind of like a bit of a two-edged sword.' Advertisement 'I don't think about things that will become viral. I think if you pander, audiences can sniff it out. So I never wanted to do that.' However, Johnstone wanted certain scenes in 'M3GAN 2.0' — namely the moment where M3GAN sings the Kate Bush song 'This Woman's Work' to Gemma (Allison Williams) — to stick out to the audience. 'People love the dance so much, and they love the song so much. AP Johnstone also spoke about how the sequel has a different balance of horror and comedy than the original. 'The movie has a certain tone and a certain character to it,' he shared. 'And I think obviously this one leans much more comedy than the first one did and makes no apologies for that. But when you have M3GAN stepping out of the shadows and now she's front and center… by the time Gemma traps M3GAN in this toy robot, we know what movie we're in. You're always writing sort of a fine line between kind of tension and comedy and not doing anything that goes too far and sort of steps over that line and goes into farce.' M3GAN, now turned to the good side to defeat a new killer robot named AMELIA, has no shortage of iconic moments in the sequel. AP 'I don't know if this was one is my favorite, but the one that comes to mind is the mechanical M3GAN scene,' the director told The Post. 'I think it's a really sweet, kind of heartwarming scene. Advertisement 'It was not there initially, and it was only in pre-production I had this idea that if M3GAN really wants to get a body and needs Gemma to get her body, we should see why. And it turns out she can't do this on her own, and the version she's in is quite ridiculous. So yeah, that was a fun, magical scene to do.' The British singer is set to take the Good Morning America Summer Concert Series stage July 7. Capaldi dropped his single "Survive" last week. The song is his first release since the album Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent. He was diagnosed with Tourette syndrome in 2022, and his latest track captures his desire to keep going no matter what. "So when hope is lost and I come undone, I swear to god I'll survive," he sings.

'Mama June: Family Crisis' marathon to stream Friday
June 30 (UPI) -- A marathon of Mama June: Family Crisis is slated to air Friday on We TV for Fourth of July, the network announced Monday. The first five episodes of Season 7 will air beginning at 5 p.m. EDT, and will stream on ALLBLK and AMC+, a press release states. The "fireworks-filled midseason catch-up" sees June Shannon, aka Mama June, balancing house hunting and a custody battle over her granddaughter Kaitlyn, while daughter Alana navigates college life and fears that boyfriend Dralin is headed to jail, an official synopsis states. Shannon's daughter Pumpkin, meanwhile, is experiencing growth in her business and challenges in her marriage. Episode 6 will arrive July 11, the press release states. Shannon and her family previously starred on the TLC reality series Toddlers & Tiaras and Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Her daughter Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell, mom to Kaitlyn and Kylee, died at age 29 in 2023 after a battle with cancer.
