Tripura CM lays foundation for setting up replica of 51 Shakti Peethas

on Sunday laid the foundation stone for establishing a replica of 51 Shakti Peethas in Gomati district's Bandower, aiming to boost religious tourism in the northeastern state.
Speaking at an event, Saha said
PM Modi
, in a conclave of the chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, had emphasised developing a tourism site of global standard to attract visitors from around the world. "In line with the Prime Minister's wish, we are going to set up a replica of 51 Shakti Peethas at Bandower to attract millions of tourists from around the world," he said.
Saha said the ministry of tourism has sanctioned Rs 98 crore for developing a world-class spiritual spot at Bandower. According to the plan, idols of 51-Shakti Peethas will be installed at the site, spreading over 15 acres, he said.

Govt owes tourism contractors over Rs 39.7cr with bills from 2019
Panaji : From housekeeping services and painting to legal fees and translations, the tourism department has racked up Rs 39.7 crore in unpaid bills. Contractors for events, vehicles and executed projects have been fretting with their money lying locked up with the tourism department as well as the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), with some of the bills dating all the way back to 2019. Among those that the department owes money are govt entities such as Goa Human Resource Development Corporation Limited and Goa Electronics Limited. The tourism department's 17 outstanding bills are largely for tourism roadshows and trade fairs, and most are for the current year with just two bills dating back to Dec 2024. However, GTDC's track record of clearing bills of contractors and event management firms is not on par. The Goa Human Resource Development Corporation Ltd provided security services at GTDC residencies for 2019-20 for which it billed GTDC Rs 1.03 crore, an amount that remains unpaid, shows data released in the state legislative assembly. Invoices towards the organisation of the Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahostav in Dec 2021 worth Rs 3.7 lakh also remain unpaid. GTDC said that many of these bills are 'under consideration' and will be cleared once scrutiny and approval is obtained. Bills for the G20 meetings, which were held in Goa, also remain unpaid. Goa hosted several G20-related meetings during India's presidency in 2023, including the G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting and the Tourism Ministers' Meeting.

He also informed that during the financial year 2016-17, the central govt approved Rs 68.34 crore under the original 'Swadesh Darshan' scheme to develop the Himalayan circuit covering Kiarighat, Shimla, Haatkoti, Manali, Kangra, Dharamshala, Bir, Palampur, and Chamba. Regarding a question about the drying up of the Dal Lake, Dharamshala, in recent years, the minister said it falls under the jurisdiction of the state govt, and the Union ministry of tourism did not have a dedicated programme for handling issues in reservoirs or reservoir conservation. First week of Cubbon Walks sees full bookings in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: The newly launched guided tour programme 'Cubbon Walks' got off to a strong start with all 90 slots for the first day booked and registrations for the next weekend — Aug 2 and 3 — already full. Priced at Rs 200 per adult, the initiative offers curated walks through Cubbon Park, showcasing its ecology and heritage. The horticulture department, which is conducting the walks, said the response has exceeded expectations. "The numbers are speaking loud, and this is indeed a huge success for the programme," said Kusuma G, deputy director of the department. On launch day, participants were split into Kannada, English, and mixed-language batches to accommodate preferences. The concept was originally proposed by the tourism department but was later implemented by the horticulture department, following a planning meeting in June involving ecologists, historians, and citizen groups. The aim is to highlight Cubbon Park as both a lung space and a living archive of the city's past. Organisers expect the walks to become a recurring feature, aimed at encouraging responsible tourism and environmental learning. The Cubbon Park Walkers Association welcomed the initiative, but recommended a few additions, including providing refreshments after the walk, discounted rates for students, and group discounts for bulk bookings. The horticulture department has said these suggestions are under consideration.
