Report: Celtics 'invite trade discussion' for recently acquired Anfernee Simons

Reuters7 hours ago
August 10 - If reports are any indication, guard Anfernee Simons might not be long for the Boston Celtics.
According to The Stein Line, Boston is looking to move the 26-year-old Simons -- though the front office is not rushing to get a deal done.
The Celtics "will continue to invite trade discussion" for Simons, whom Boston acquired last month in exchange for two-time All-Star guard Jrue Holiday. Per The Stein Line, the Celtics will keep the window open through the 2025-26 trade deadline.
The 24th overall pick in 2018, Simons spent the first seven years of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, averaging 15 points on 43.1 percent shooting that featured a 38.1 percent clip from 3-point range. He scored 20.7 points per game over the past three seasons in Portland while hitting 583 3-pointers.
Simons joined the Celtics on an expiring contract, with his acquisition saving Boston $40 million in luxury tax payments next season.

Giants rookie Jaxson Dart eyes $10MILLION penthouse after signing $17m deal

Now that Jaxson Dart has officially signed his first NFL contract with the New York Giants, he needs to find himself a place to live. The quarterback, who recently signed a four-year, $17million entry-level contract, now has to deal with finding a place to live in one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world. In a video collaboration with Overtime, Dart was seen shopping for homes and apartments in New York City and neighboring New Jersey to find a place to call his own. He began in the community of Short Hills, New Jersey - on the same side of the river as the Giants' practice facility in East Rutherford. There, he toured a newly-built home valued at nearly $4million that came with rare features, ornate furnishings, and plenty of space for him to put roots down. Black and gold accents decorated the house - including in a kitchen with all black appliances, cabinetry, and countertops. Throughout the video, he spoke about some things that he's getting used to now that he lives in the Northeast - such as an E-Z Pass to help him bypass tollbooths. 'I don't even know that. I just drive by it every time. I'm like, what does this even mean?,' Dart said in the video. He also talked about his quarterback 'competition' with Jameis Winston behind probable starter Russell Wilson: 'Jameis is probably the funniest person I've ever been around. He's just, you know, genuinely just who he is and he's been great, you know, for me just being able to go into the facilities every day and learn from him. 'Same with Russ, you know, smart he is and he's just been around a lot of ball and he's had success and he's also faced adversity. So, being able to just talk through things with him and learn as much as I can.' Dart then went into the city - where he did some shopping along with his friends and members of his management team before heading back across the Hudson and into Jersey City to look at a $3.4m apartment. While the lavish layout and furnishings were enticing, some of the potential views were blocked by other buildings. After being shown some common areas, Dart was shown the common area for the whole building on the 34th floor. The Utah native then remarked that he'd like to purchase that common area to be his full-time residence. When asking someone who worked for the building if it was for sale, she said it wasn't. When pressed, the woman said it might cost Dart around $10million. After touring an apartment in Jersey City, Dart was enticed by the top-floor common area. Despite it not being for sale, he was quoted at $10million - over half his rookie contract value. Dart's real estate agent remarked that this might be a 'second contract purchase' - considering the rookie only earns $17m spread out over four years. But the confident Dart remarked, 'Just watch. Just watch me. Watch when I buy this s**t.' During Dart's first preseason game in Orchard Park against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, he got the start for New York and proved his worth early on. In the second quarter, Dart lobbed up a pass for receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey - which landed perfectly in his stride into the end zone for a 28-yard completion. As Humphrey danced and his teammates ran over, Dart was fired up - shouting in celebration as he joined in on the fun. Dart had a very strong debut for the G-Men - completing 12-of-19 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown while also tacking on three carries for 24 yards on the ground.

Nolan Gorman's late RBI single pushes Cardinals past Cubs

August 11 - Nolan Gorman atoned for a costly throwing error by producing the game-winning RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the visiting Chicago Cubs 3-2 Sunday night. The second-place Cubs fell six games behind the streaking Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. The Brewers won their ninth straight game Sunday afternoon. Pedro Pages hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals, who have won three of their last four games. Cardinals pitcher Sonny Gray (11-5) allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked one. Riley O'Brien retired two batters in the eighth inning, then JoJo Romero got the last four outs for his third save. Matt Shaw hit a two-run homer for the Cubs, who lost for the fourth time in their last six games. Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga (8-5) allowed three runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked none. The game's start was delayed 53 minutes by a pregame downpour. Gray escaped trouble in the first inning. Seiya Suzuki hit a one-out single and Carson Kelly drew a two-out walk, but Pete Crow-Armstrong grounded out to strand them. Imanaga retired his first six batters, but then the Cardinals took 2-0 lead against him in the third inning on Thomas Saggese's single and Pages' homer. The Cubs tied the game 2-2 in the fifth inning. Dansby Swanson reached safely on Gorman's throwing error and Shaw capitalized with his homer. The Cardinals moved ahead 3-2 in the seventh inning. Jordan Walker hit a single, stole second base and scored on Gorman's single. Suzuki walked with two outs in the eighth inning and went to third on Kyle Tucker's single before Kelly grounded out to end the threat. With one out in the ninth inning, pinch-runner Jon Berti was thrown out trying to steal second. Nico Hoerner and Swanson followed with singles, but Shaw grounded into a game-ending fielder's choice to second base. --Field Level Media

Zverev rolls past home hope into Cincinnati third round, Shelton advances

Aug 10 (Reuters) - German third seed Alexander Zverev swatted aside home hope Nishesh Basavareddy 6-3 6-3 in the second round of the Cincinnati Open on Sunday, as Canadian Open winner Ben Shelton advanced when Argentina's Camilo Ugo Carabelli retired injured. The 2021 champion Zverev never faced a break and closed out the evening programme on the Grandstand with one of a dozen aces across the match, as he tuned out the rowdy U.S. crowd that was squarely in his opponent's corner. He will meet American Brandon Nakashima in the third round. Fresh off winning the biggest title of his career in Toronto, American Shelton was up a set and a break when Ugo Carabelli stopped short and clutched his knee in pain in the fourth game of the second set. The Argentine tried to play on after taking a medical timeout but could not continue, clearing a path for Shelton to next face Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, who beat Briton Cam Norrie 6-4 6-3 earlier in the day. Carlos Alcaraz bounced back from a mid-match slump to down Bosnian Damir Dzumhur 6-1 2-6 6-3, as he hopes to keep his extraordinary run on track after reaching the finals of his last six tournaments. After a routine start, the second-ranked Spaniard racked up an uncharacteristic number of unforced errors in the second set before regaining his composure, outfoxing his opponent at the net before closing it out with a solid forehand shot. "I have to be better, for sure. I started the match really well, feeling the ball pretty good," Alcaraz, who next faces Serbia's Hamad Medjedovic, told the Tennis Channel. "I just want to feel much better in the next round." Second seed Coco Gauff overcame early problems on serve to cruise past China's Wang Xinyu 6-3 6-2, keeping her composure despite eight double faults in the first set to book a meeting with Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska in the third round. The 2023 champion converted on all five break point chances she got on Center Court and was firing on all cylinders as she won 20 of her last 23 points on serve. "I had a shaky start with the serve but I was able to push through and figure that out," Gauff told the Tennis Channel. "Just taking my time and remembering the things we worked on in practice and just trying not to, I guess, fall into the same old patterns." Gauff's compatriot and former doubles partner, fourth seed Jessica Pegula, eased past Australian Kimberly Birrell 6-4 6-3, on a day with few upsets at the U.S. Open tune-up tournament. American Reilly Opelka got the home crowd going as he overcame the Australian sixth seed Alex de Minaur 7-6(6) 6-4, while Australian Adam Walton knocked out the 2019 winner Daniil Medvedev 6(0)-7 6-4 6-1 in another surprise result.
