A sheriff has noted former Scotland rugby union captain Stuart Hogg's "complete compliance" with a community payback order over domestic abuse and said no further review of it would take place.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to a single charge of domestic abuse of his now estranged wife, Gillian Hogg, over the course of five years when he appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court in November last year.

Sheriff Peter Paterson ordered Hogg to complete a community payback order with one year of supervision as an alternative to jail when he sentenced him in January.
A review hearing at Jedburgh Sheriff Court said there was no need for a further review of the order.
Hogg admitted shouting and swearing and acting in an abusive manner towards his wife Gillian when he appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court last year.
During a review of his community payback order at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, the rugby player - who was not present - was represented by his lawyer Mat Patrick.
He said it was the second review of the order and his submission was that it should be allowed to continue.

Discussing the order, Sheriff Peter Paterson noted "that there has been complete compliance with it".
He said: "My intention is that there would be no further review."
Former Glasgow Warriors fullback Hogg amassed a century of senior caps for his country and was involved in three British and Irish Lions tours.
He remains one of Scotland's all-time leading try scorers and was awarded an MBE in the 2024 New Year honours list for services to rugby union - which there have been calls to strip him of.
He came out of retirement last summer to sign a two-year contract with Montpellier.

Scottish dad who killed his own children in 'revenge plot' against wife denied parole

Killer Rab Thomson, who killed his own to children in their family home after his marriage broke down, has been denied parole. The sick dad stabbed his disabled daughter Michelle, who was 25-years-old at the time, and his seven-year-old son Ryan, to death. The 67-year-old was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the crimes, which he committed in 2008. His former wife, June, plead with the parole board to deny him his freedom. Her calls were echoed by others in the community, with MP for Glenrothes and Mid Fife Richard Baker now confirming he has not been given parole after writing to the authorities. "My wife, Claire Baker MSP and I, who wrote to the board seeking this outcome, welcome the decision. I'm sure many people in Levenmouth will feel the same." Thomson is believed to have murdered his children out of cruel revenge on his estranged wife June who left him after 27-years of beatings and rape. In his first official access visit, after June finally plucked up the courage to leave him, he stabbed Ryan 14 times as the little boy played a computer game at the family home in Buckhaven, Fife, on May 3, 2008. He then turned the knife on Michelle, stabbing her 12 times as she fought for her life, leaving her bedroom like a bloodbath. After murdering his children, Thomson placed each child in bed and posed their bodies like little angels for his wife to find. Detective Inspector Graham Fenton, one of the detectives in charge of the investigation, said the killer traumatised his family for years. He previously said: "June had been the victim of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. He added: "When Thomson came into our custody, he was very matter of fact. "He showed no remorse. In fact, he never asked for his children once. At one stage during the interview, he even refused to sit on the chair in the room. He actually lay on the floor. It appeared to me that this was Thomson trying to exert control over a situation that wasn't his." Last year, a documentary called Britain's Darkest Taboos, that covered the murders showed how Thomson exerted control over his terrified family. Dr Keri Nixon, a leading criminologist told if how Thomson cracked because his image as the perfect family man was destroyed by his split from his wife June. In film, taken at Christmas 2002 when youngest victim Ryan was not yet two, Thomson's wife June, 54, is heard begging her husband to stop filming but he persists. Dr Nixon said: "He wanted to present a perfect life to the outside world. "He liked to be respected, he liked to be admired. His wife leaving him was not part of that image. Because he was losing everything, his way of dealing with it was to destroy it."

Edinburgh businessman ran brothel from notorious sauna but was caught after tragedy

An Edinburgh businessman has admitted running a brothel inside a notorious sauna. Ian Douglas Haig ran the Scorpio Leisure business and made his cash from charging customers on entry and being paid a fee by sex workers for use of one of the premise's five bedrooms. But the 82-year-old company director was caught in charge of the sleazy sex den after police were called out to investigate the death of a woman within the sauna, on Albion Road, in 2022. READ MORE: Ryanair flight 'utter chaos' as passengers 'jump off wing' with 18 people injured READ MORE: Edinburgh man was 'spending £400 a month on takeaways' before going on Mounjaro During the subsequent police investigation officers interviewed staff and clients who had attended the sauna and discovered it was being used for prostitution purposes. Haig was arrested and charged with allowing the premises to be used as a brothel and pleaded guilty when he appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, July 3. A written narration read out to the court stated Haig, who used to be in the merchant navy, was 'the long standing tenant' and 'the operator of the business known as Scorpio Leisure'. The narration said: 'Scorpio Leisure was offering paying customers massage services, advertised itself as a sauna and operated as a brothel.' The court heard patrons entered through a locked inner door and the inside of the building included a lounge, a staff kitchen with 16 lockers, a shower area and changing room. The narration added: 'There were five rooms all containing a bed, mirrors on the walls, a corner bath and showers. The rooms contained stocks of wipes, lubricants and shower gel.' The court heard a woman passed away in non-suspicious circumstances within the premises in the city's Leith area on April 30, 2022 that had led to a police investigation. Police interviewed a number of women who worked at the sauna who said 'clients attending the brothel paid an entrance fee to the accused' of £20 for a 30 minutes session and £35 for 90 minutes. The narration detailed the brothel's pricing structure stating the customers paid the women a further £50 for a 30 minute appointment and £75 for 90 minutes The court was told the sex workers would then pay Haig £10 per client for the use of the room. The court heard: 'Clients attending at Scorpio Leisure selected the women at the lounge area then moved to a bedroom. 'Some of those clients provided statements on their interactions with the accused either on arrival or departure and were quite clear the accused knew the premises were being operated as a brothel.' The court was told nurses from the charity SACRO regularly attended the premises to 'supply condoms and offer sexual health advice and support to the women working there'. Solicitor Nigel Bruce, defending, asked for his client's bail to be continued and said he would reserve his mitigation to the sentencing hearing. Sheriff Fergus Thomson agreed to continue bail and deferred sentence on the pensioner, of the capital's Haymarket, for the preparation of a social work report to next month. The sheriff also agreed to continue a Crown motion of a matter of confiscation under Section 92 of the Proceeds of Crime Act for four weeks. Haig was the sole shareholder of Darrock Ltd before the company was dissolved earlier this year. Haig pleaded guilty to being the tenant, occupier or operator of Scorpio Leisure, Albion Road, Edinburgh, and allowing the premises to be used as a brothel, or for the purposes of of habitual prostitution, between March 1, 2016 and April 30, 2022.

Edinburgh Princes Street Gardens cafe targeted by 'youth gang' for third time in a week

An Edinburgh Princes Street cafe has been targeted by a gang of youths for the third time in a week after nearby business owners warned they are 'under siege' from feral groups. Last weekend a firework was let off near customers at Sir Walter's Cafe in the Gardens, exploding near women and young children. Just days later, two female youths were captured breaking open a shutter and raiding the cafe. Paulius Bernotas, who owns the business in Princes Street Gardens, raised concerns over an increase in antisocial behaviour from large groups of youths in the area and called on police to carry out regular patrols to deter further offending. According to Paulius, more damage was dealt to the unit, but nothing appears to have been taken. Two hooded male youths can be seen approaching the cafe and attempting to pull open the wooden shutter before two females join them. In the background, people can be seen walking along Princes Street, looking towards the group. A hand is then visible as the camera is moved away from them while they allegedly broke the doors open. After being approached about a rise in youth-related incidents within Princes Street Gardens, Sergeant Robert Richardson said officers are currently running a dedicated initiative which involves high-visibility patrols specifically targeting antisocial behaviour on Princes Street and the surrounding area. Paulius previously told how groups regularly make their way around Princes Street Gardens with speakers during the day and approach his cafe and seating area in the afternoon. Despite being asked to leave by staff, groups continue to 'look for a reaction' and vandalise his cafe. The raid on the unit earlier this week left Paulius with a bill of around £2,000 to repair damage caused to the shutter and a fridge. Sergeant Robert Richardson said: "We understand the impact anti-social behaviour and disorder has on the local community, and I would like to thank locals who continue to bring these incidents to our attention. I would reassure them that everything possible is being done to reduce anti-social behaviour in our area. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages. 'Officers are currently running a dedicated initiative named Operation Verbeia, which involves increased high-visibility patrols specifically targeting anti-social behaviour in the Princes Street area and its surroundings. "We take reports of such instances very seriously and I would urge anyone who comes across disorder to contact police. Anti-social behaviour and criminal acts will not be tolerated and those found to be committing these offences will be dealt with appropriately. 'Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to report incidents to police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'
