Ibrahima Konate admits BIG changes are imminent
Liverpool were left reeling by the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold would leave the club at the end of his contract in summer 2025. After two decades in red, the homegrown hero opted to let his deal expire and join Real Madrid.
But events move quickly. Trent confirmed that he would be leaving and that announcement was followed very quickly by the news that Jeremie Frimpong was coming.

The Dutchman, 24, was a double winner with Bayer Leverkusen in 2023/24 - establishing himself as one of the best wing-backs around under Xabi Alonso.
Richard Hughes moved fast for the Netherlands international - triggering his Leverkusen release clause and adding a high-quality replacement for Trent without delay.
Jeremie Frimpong a unique threat
Capable of playing right-back, wing-back, right midfield and even right-wing, Frimpong brings a whole new dimension to the Merseysiders' right side.
And where Trent was a defacto midfield player operating from the right-back slot, Frimpong presents a very different threat.

An exquisite dribbler and ball-carrier, expect to see the former Manchester City academy product make far more entries to the opposition area.
He could even play in tandem with Conor Bradley, who may fulfill a more orthodox right-back role.

Frimpong 'different' to Trent
Questioned about how he saw Frimpong fitting in, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate admitted that it was likely to see big changes coming to the Liverpool structure.
'I think the coach's instructions to him will be clear because we'll do lots of video work,' he told the Athletic.
'The fact he's signed for us means he must have spoken to the coach a lot, so he'll know what the coach expects from him.

'It'll be different with him compared to Trent. That's for sure, because they're different players.
'But I'm happy for him. He's a good person, very funny, and I wish him every happiness at Liverpool when he arrives. I have no worries about him.'
Konate plans to stick around
the Frenchman has been linked with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Xabi Alonso to change Arda Güler's position at Real Madrid
Incoming Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is planning to make use of the talents of Arda Güler in a deeper role next season and beyond. That's according to Diario AS, who have on Monday provided an insight into the situation. Advertisement Güler will of course imminently see the competition for places in the attacking midfield role at Real Madrid increase yet further. This comes with Los Blancos having tied up a deal for River Plate sensation Franco Mastantuono. With the two players boasting similar profiles – technically elite, left-footed and with a creative flair – fans of Güler, in turn, may have been concerned when it comes to the Turk's prospects in Spain's capital moving forward. As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, such fans need not fret. As per a report from AS, after Güler impressed in fleeting minutes in the role last season: 'The club's strategy is to continue converting Güler into a (deeper) midfielder, a playmaker with precision from set pieces thanks to his excellent shot.' Liverpool set NEW asking price for Saudi-linked forward
Liverpool have been tipped to conduct a summer overhaul in the transfer window. Hopes are high that an agreement can soon be found with Bayer Leverkusen over Florian Wirtz. That deal will cost the Reds in the region of £126m overall but the spending won't stop there. There are ambitions for the club to add a centre-forward and a left-back - with a resolution soon to be found with Bournemouth over Milos Kerkez. Several first-team squad members have been linked with the exit - including Luis Diaz. The Colombian winger is coming off the back of a 13-goal season in the Premier League, helping his side to a 20th top-flight title. But that output has done little to diminish transfer talk around the 28-year-old. Barcelona and Al-Nassr want Diaz Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has got a contract issue to solve with Diaz - as his current deal runs out in 2027. If no accord is reached over a new deal - and there are no indications that there will be - then Diaz could well be on his way this summer. Advertisement Barcelona and Al-Nassr are among the teams vying for the left-winger's signature. The Spanish champions are unlikely to afford Diaz - given his quoted asking price and wage demands. But Al-Nassr could well be back in for the South American sensation. And according to a new report in Football Insider, Liverpool's minimum demands have now been revealed. © IMAGO Liverpool would accept £60m to £70m for Diaz 'I don't see how Barcelona could afford him, unless there's some major changes going on there,' states transfer expert Pete O'Rourke. 'Financially, they're probably looking at around £60million plus, £70million for Luis Diaz. Advertisement 'His reputation has only been enhanced [since] moving to Liverpool from Porto. 'He's won the Premier League title. He's been a regular for Colombia as well. 'If Saudi Pro League clubs do come calling for Diaz, then maybe Liverpool could drive up that asking price to get as much as they possibly can.'

Brazil could reach World Cup with a win on Ancelotti's home debut; Ecuador also close
SAO PAULO (AP) — Two more South American teams could qualify for the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. Second-placed Ecuador will do it by winning in Peru. Fourth-placed Brazil or third-placed Paraguay could secure a berth with a win in Sao Paulo as long as Venezuela loses at Uruguay. The most anticipated match of the round is in Sao Paulo, where Carlo Ancelotti will make his home debut as Brazil coach. The host, which drew Ecuador 0-0 last Thursday, is two points behind Paraguay. Only World Cup champion Argentina has qualified from South America. Lionel Messi's team takes on Colombia in Buenos Aires in a match in which coach Lionel Scaloni will continue deepening his squad. The two final rounds of South American qualifying are in September. The top six teams earn direct spots for the World Cup next year in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Whoever finishes seventh goes to an international playoff. Also on Tuesday, eighth-placed Bolivia will host 10th-placed Chile. Ancelotti's home debut Ancelotti's changes to shore up the defense at Ecuador worked. Defender Alex impressed on debut and veteran midfielder Casemiro improved the defense. More changes are expected on Tuesday. Striker Richarlison lost his place in the starting lineup to Matheus Cunha during training, and teenager Estêvão is expected to make way on the left wing for Raphinha, who was suspended last week. Casemiro enjoyed success with Ancelotti at Real Madrid , and said on Sunday he returned to the national team after more than a year's absence due to his performances at Manchester United. 'I am glad to be back and back playing well, I want to stress that,' Casemiro said. 'I am not here because I know the coach, but because I deserve it. This was undoubtedly one of the most important years of my career.' Paraguay will not be an easy challenge for Brazil. Since coach Gustavo Alfaro took over, the Paraguayans have been unbeaten for nine matches. The Argentine coach has already equaled the all-time record for qualifying points set by coach Paulo César Carpegiani in the campaign for the 1998 World Cup in France. Eyes on Venezuela As the only South American team that has never made it to the World Cup, Venezuela will be under extra pressure at Centenario Stadium against coach Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay. Uruguay is fifth and could be overtaken by Venezuela. A win for Venezuela and coach Fernando Batista will almost lock up seventh place and boost its chances of fighting for a direct spot. A defeat could give Bolivia a chance to bid for the international playoff position in the two final rounds. 'We have three finals in which we can't overlook, we can't fail. We are ready for that,' Batista said after the 2-0 win against Bolivia. 'We are focused on getting the most possible points.' Uruguay has been enduring a shaky patch with no wins in its last four qualifiers. A home victory against Venezuela is key for the team to regain momentum and confidence. Bielsa, who has been clashing with Uruguay players since the Copa America last year, said he was to blame for the poor performance in the 2-0 loss at Paraguay. 'I truly feel responsible for the situation of the team because the problem is the lack of creation of scoring opportunities, and my position before this problem is to propose solutions,' a soft-toned Bielsa said. 'When I propose and I have players who are special in their clubs, but can't do it in the squad I have ... I have no option (but) to recognize my lack of efficiency.' Uruguay remained without key midfielder Federico Valverde, who was injured, and striker Darwin Núñez, suspended. ___ AP soccer:
