Alcohol trial at women's matches to be expanded to up to 14 clubs next season
The sale of alcohol in sight of the pitch is illegal in men's football, but the legislation does not cover the women's game.
The new clubs joining the trial are Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, London City Lionesses, Manchester City and Manchester United from the Women's Super League, plus Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and Sunderland in the second-tier Women's Super League 2.
Chelsea, London City Lionesses and Newcastle's involvement is still subject to approval from their local safety advisory groups.
The aim of expanding the trial is to test at larger scale across a full season, covering a broader range of crowd and stadium sizes.
Some of the country's biggest football stadia, including Old Trafford, the Emirates Stadium, the Etihad Stadium, Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge, could potentially be involved.
Many of the venues are set to offer the opportunity for tickets to be purchased in designated alcohol-free areas, WSL Football said.
Holly Murdoch, the chief operating officer of WSL Football, said: 'Expanding this trial for the new campaign, encompassing our Barclays WSL teams and additional Barclays WSL2 clubs too, is part of our strategy to offer a best-in-class experience for our fans attending matches.
'Exploring giving supporters the choice to drink alcohol in the stands was something we were excited to trial and, following such positive feedback from the proof-of-concept version, we're looking forward to opening it up to more venues and equally hearing from those at the heart of it – our clubs and supporters.'
Feedback from the four-club trial in the second half of last season was positive. Two-thirds surveyed supported the idea of the trial continuing, with 48 per cent strongly supporting its continuation.
There were no safety incidents reported and 84 per cent of fans rated their sense of safety at nine or 10 out of 10.

Slovenia star Benjamin Sesko is expected to make his preference for his next club clear later tonight as RB Leipzig receive almost matching offers from Premier League giants The coming hours are set to be decisive regarding the future of Benjamin Sesko with the RB Leipzig striker set to inform his current club whether he would prefer a move to Manchester United or Newcastle. Both Premier League clubs have been locked in a tug of war over the Slovenia centre forward and have submitted similar bids that Leipzig are evaluating. But latest reports suggest that the decision will ultimately come down to which club Sesko would rather turn out for this season - and Sesko is now expected to confirm his intentions by tonight. Earlier on Tuesday it emerged that United formally submitted a bid of £73.8m for the 22-year-old, speeding up the process that will see him leave the Bundesliga outfit. Newcastle were first to lodge a formal bid that was rejected. Following talks with the Bundesliga club, Eddie Howe's side submitted an improved offer of £69.5m plus £8.6m in add-ons on Monday. There are added considerations however that could also end up impacting Premier League champions Liverpool. Should Sesko decide to move to Old Trafford instead of St James' Park it would increase the chances of Alexander Isak remaining with the Toon despite expressing his desire to explore new opportunities amid interest from Anfield. Although the Toon's asking price remains some way higher than what the Premier League champions appear willing to pay having last week had a first bid rejected. Isak has not featured in pre-season for Newcastle with the club citing a thigh injury, though he has also taken himself to the facilities of former club Real Sociedad for a mini training camp. United, on the other hand, want to upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund, who's available for just £30m after two difficult seasons at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have already signed two forwards this summer, bringing in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined £133.5m from Wolves and Brentford. That is despite the club not being in Europe this season, while it remains unclear how motivated Sesko is around the chance of participating in this season's Champions League for Newcastle. Raheem Sterling 'eyed by THREE Premier League clubs' after exiled Chelsea star was handed brutal snubbing as Enzo Maresca moves on
Raheem Sterling is believed to have caught the interest of three Premier League sides, with the forward all but guaranteed to make the move away from Chelsea after being frozen out by head coach Enzo Maresca. The former Manchester City star joined the Blues in the summer of 2022 after inking a £47.5million deal to move to the capital. But Sterling has struggled for form in recent seasons, finding himself on the periphery of the plans of both Mauricio Pochettino and Maresca, with the player spending last season on loan with crosstown rivals Arsenal. Despite his pursuit of a fresh start, the winger found it equally challenging to break in to Mikel Arteta 's side, scoring just one goal in his 27 appearances. Sterling is believed to have been informed by Maresca that he will not feature for the Club World Cup winners this term, and does not even have a profile or photo in the first-team section of the website. However, the 30-year-old is not without transfer options, with outlets reporting that a number of division rivals could yet battle to secure his services. Chelsea's next-door neighbours Fulham are thought to be keeping an eye on the player, along with south London side Crystal Palace, as per talkSPORT. Sterling could also see a reunion with a former Chelsea manager, with Graham Potter's West Ham believed to be rounding out the group of clubs interested in the ex-Liverpool man. The player is thought to be keen to stay in London, where he has relocated with his young family, which could make signing for any of his three potential suitors an option. Mail Sport reported last month that Sterling had been offered up to Serie A champions Napoli, but those wishes would suggest Premier League offers will be considered more seriously by the star. But Sterling's sky-high wages are believed to represent a stumbling block in the face of a move away from Stamford Bridge, with the England international reportedly earning a staggering £325,000 per week. Sterling is one of nine players that Maresca has banished from the first team, including Ben Chilwell, Alfie Gilchrist, Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, Renato Veiga and David Datro Fofana. Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is on the cusp of following in the footsteps of outgoing players such as Joao Felix, Armando Broja, and Lesley Ugochukwu and inking a move away, with the former Leicester star departing for Everton after just one season in west London.
