AAP-led Punjab launches revolutionary Udyog Kranti to boost industrial growth
MOHALI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government today launched the Punjab Udyog Kranti initiative, claiming to be the first in the country to introduce such a comprehensive industrial revolution. The initiative is aimed at simplifying, reducing, and expediting the statutory processes required to set up industry in the state.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal unveiled 12 new initiatives designed to revolutionise industrial growth in the state, thereby launching a new era of growth and prosperity for Punjab's industry under the Punjab Udyog Kranti.
Kejriwal said that a set of 12 initiatives will revolutionise how industry in Punjab operates, how industry interacts with the government, and how industry can unlock the value of its land and become more competitive nationally as well as globally.
He said, 'Firstly, the state government will ensure a deemed approval system in 45 days for all applications, thereby stipulating that all approvals and clearances for setting up a business or expanding an existing business will be issued in a maximum of 45 working days, addressing one of the biggest concerns of investors – delay and uncertainty.'
Previously, Kejriwal said, many clearances had notified timelines of 60 to 120 working days, and actual processing often took even longer, creating unpredictability in project execution.
He said that upon applying for a new business, within seven days the state government will review the application online and inform the applicant about any deficiency, the removal of which will ensure they get all approvals within the remaining 45 days.

As the bypoll campaign for the Ludhiana West constituency intensifies, various political parties have been served notices for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), highlighting ongoing scrutiny of electoral norms. Despite this assurance, political observers and rival parties have voiced concerns about the impartiality of the election machinery, with the stark difference in the number of notices drawing particular attention and prompting allegations of preferential treatment. Meanwhile, Jain has urged citizens to actively report any MCC violations through the cVIGIL mobile application, developed by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He stated that all complaints submitted via the app are addressed within a timeframe of 100 minutes. Since the by-election was announced on May 25, a total of 556 complaints have been received through the cVIGIL app, all of which are reported to have been resolved. The cVIGIL app facilitates public reporting of various violations, including the unauthorised use of loudspeakers, distribution of freebies, or illegal rallies, and is accessible on both Android and iOS platforms. As the election campaign enters its final phase, officials are reinforcing calls for all political parties to strictly adhere to MCC guidelines. However, the apparent discrepancy in the issuance of notices remains a prominent talking point, with the election commission yet to provide an official clarification on the matter.

On Tuesday, Delhi Cabinet approved an ordinance empowering the govt to impose fines up to Rs 10 lakh on private schools for violating fee norms and even revoke their right to propose fee revisions. Education minister Ashish Sood said the cabinet, chaired by chief minister Rekha Gupta, approved the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Ordinance, 2025, which will be sent for presidential assent through the lieutenant governor. AAP Delhi state president Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that in order to favour private schools, govt brought the ordinance through the backdoor. Calling it an "open" and "blatant" surrender of governance, he said the law is drafted entirely in favour of school management. "Ever since the BJP formed a govt in Delhi, the first session of private schools began with a wave of fee hikes. Parents were left with no choice but to pay," he said. Previously, schools had to seek approval from the Directorate of Education before raising fees. Bharadwaj said, "From April 1, private schools increased fees arbitrarily without approval, and the govt took no action—no rollback or refunds were ordered." Criticising the govt for bypassing public consultation and not bringing the bill before the legislative assembly, he said, "The draft was not made public, was not uploaded online, and no citizen feedback was sought." These committees include five school members—three teachers, one principal, and one management member—and parents chosen by lottery. Protest heat rises in poll-bound Ludhiana
Bathinda: With the Ludhiana West byelection looming, the city is now on the radar of protesters of various hues — a pattern observed in previous poll-bound areas like Bathinda during the SAD-BJP tenure and Patiala-Chamkaur Sahib under the Congress govt. While some employee and unemployed unions are already holding agitations, the family of a deceased village sarpanch and members of various organisations are set to descend on Ludhiana on Thursday for a candle march. Their target: Guru Harsahai MLA Fauja Singh Sarari and his personal assistant, Bachittar Singh, demanding immediate action against them for alleged abetment to suicide. The protesters plan to converge near Gate Number 1 of Punjab Agriculture University, a stone's throw from the AAP election office for the Ludhiana West byelection. They intend to hold a protest march. Jashan Bawa, 24, the sarpanch of Trinda village and an AAP member, died by suicide on May 31. His family alleges that Bawa was driven to the extreme step due to continuous harassment by MLA Sarari and his personal assistant. On June 9, villagers and various organisations staged a protest at Lakho Ke Behram police station, disrupting the Ferozepur-Fazilka highway to demand justice. Ferozepur police have formed a special investigations team (SIT), comprising two SP-level officers and one DSP, to investigate the matter and determine the MLA's alleged role in the incident. MLA Sarari has denied the allegations, attributing them to a smear campaign by certain individuals, including members of his own party. Meanwhile, a separate wave of protests is set to hit Ludhiana on June 16, organised by the Narinderdeep death action committee. They are demanding a judicial inquiry into the alleged custodial death of 34-year-old IELTS teacher Narinderdeep, who died in Bathinda on May 23. The committee is also demanding the nomination of the CIA-2 in-charge in the case, the arrest of implicated police officers, a government job for a bereaved family member, and compensation.
