Two arrested as assault closes Ouse Bridge in York
Two men have been arrested after an assault closed a city centre bridge for several hours this morning.Ouse Bridge in York was closed following an incident at 01:40 BST in which two men and a woman suffered injuries.One of the men was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, North Yorkshire Police said.A man in his 20s and a man in his 40s, both from York, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody.
The bridge has since reopened.Officers have asked anyone who had witnessed the incident who had not yet been interviewed to contact them.

'David Coote has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to comments that he made about Jürgen Klopp in a video recorded around July 2020 which appeared on social media in November 2024. It's alleged that the referee acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words contrary to FA Rule E3.1,' read a FA statement. 'It's further alleged that this constitutes an 'Aggravated Breach', which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference – whether express or implied – to nationality. Coote has, however, been cleared of any gambling misconduct following claims he discussed issuing a yellow card to a player before the match in question. Coote denied the allegations, describing them as 'false and defamatory'. Coote was banned by Uefa in February from officiating in European competition until 30 June 2026. The previous month he said struggles with his sexuality contributed to the 'really poor choices' that cost him his job.

'My sexuality isn't the only reason that led me to be in that position. But I'm not telling an authentic story if I don't say that I'm gay and that I've had real struggles with hiding that,' he said. 'I hid my emotions as a young ref and I hid my sexuality as well — a good quality as a referee but a terrible quality as a human being. And that's led me to a whole course of behaviours.' Advertisement The FA has not shared a date by which Coote must respond to the charge. Coote has not been charged in relation to messages exchanged with a Leeds fan concerning the issuing of a yellow card in 2019. As the Klopp charge is an alleged case of discrimination, the PA news agency understands an independent regulatory commission will deal with the matter, and impose sanctions as it sees fit if Coote accepts the charge or it is found proven.
